Jeep finally enters India but is steep pricing a dampener?

16 posts in this topic

Jeep finally enters the Indian market after multiple delays.

Here's ACI's launch report >> https://t.co/vaErfmmf5c

Prices for the Jeep models in India are:

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD: Rs 71.59 lakh
Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Rs 1.03 crore
Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited: Rs 93.64 lakh
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: Rs 1.12 crore
(All prices ex-showroom, Delhi)

I personally think Jeep has priced GC out of competition totally. Do you think Jeep must take this as a lesson and price the petrol models, due this November competitively?

With this pricing they are dead on arrival.

Even SUVs like Q7 are priced around 80 lacs, this is way beyond competition even if they are CBU's.

The pricing is a shocker especially the Wrangler 71.5 ex showroom is ridiculous. The SRT is priced decently, it was expected to be a crore plus ex showroom. The diesel Cherokee is also a blunder. I really dt know how much they will sell. They have desirability but prices are a put off

The Jeep Compass was revealed a few days ago and thats the product that should get Jeep India some volumes plus prices should be better because it will be made locally. Came across these pics of the Compass at an off-road event. Looks very capable indeed

Jeep's launched the new Compass in India with prices starting at Rs 14.95 lakh for the base Sport petrol variant... Don't think anyone expected this base price!

Full price break-up:

1.4 MultiAir Petrol Sport - Rs 14.95 lakh

1.4 MultiAir Petrol Limited (AT) - Rs 18.70 lakh

1.4 MultiAir Petrol Limited Option (AT) - Rs 19.40 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Sport - Rs 15.45 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Longitude - Rs 16.45 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Longitude Option - Rs 17.25 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Limited - Rs 18.05 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Limited Option - Rs 18.75 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Limited 4x4 - Rs 19.95 lakh

2.0 Multijet Diesel Limited Option 4x4 - Rs 20.65 lakh

Considering how this puts it right in competition with the Creta, which car would you go for instead?

Excellent pricing from FCA !!

Low base price is for Petrol which I don't think many people are going to go for. So diesel will be the volume seller.

And this shows in the variant line up difference for petrol and diesel.

Tuscon is surely going to feel the heat now (anyways it wasn't selling much). Hyundai will be more worried for impact on Creta (though it's sort of a segment lower and there is still a price difference to around 2-3 lacs for comparative variants).

Came across this render and it's definitely an interesting take on what a Jeep small SUV might look like. Remember reading sometime last year that Jeep did confirm plans for a sub-four-metre vehicle

Jeep India will launch the petrol automatic version of the Compass around Diwali this year and the bookings for the SUV is open at a token amount of Rs 50,000.
