In the lines of Renault-Nissan and VW-Skoda, joins a new pair, Suzuki-Mazda.

No, Suzuki hasn’t bought Mazda or vice versa, but the Japanese car makers apparently joined hands to badge engineer the Suzuki Ertiga for the Indonesian market.
Regular Indian Autos Blog reader Mr. Rakhmat Widya Pratama from Indonesia has tipped us of this new spyshots of the Ertiga from Indonesia which were found at Ertigaclubindonesia.org. The car has nothing new except the Mazda badges suggesting that the car will be re-branded as Mazda for Indonesia and sold alongside the Suzuki version of it.
Mazda calls its rebadged Ertiga as the VX-1 and is most likely to be assembled by Suzuki at its Indonesian plant. Yes, the CKD kits for the Indonesian built Ertiga are being shipped by Maruti.

Mazda sells two MPV models, the 8 and the Biante, in Indonesia in the higher segments. The VX-1 would take them into a lower market segment and compete with the likes of the Ertiga, Avanza and the Xenia.

This is not the first Mazda badged as a Suzuki. The Mazda Carol kei car in Japan is a rebadged JDM Suzuki Alto.
We hope Mazda isn’t banking on rebadged products to enter India. If at all there’s such a plan, they must have seen how India’s given a cold shoulder to rebadged cars that haven’t just failed to sustain numbers, but have cannibalized into the original’ volumes.

I dont understand , why a car company cannot make its own cars and why should it be in business if they have no products.

In this way even we all should start our own Autocar Company

I have never met a car that i did not like.

Buying such badge-engineered cars is always bad for a car buyer.

The selling-company usually will not stock any spares as they will
have to get them from the manufacturing-company.  This results in
very high costs of service to the buyer besides involved delays.

Just imagine, getting a front bumper for Ertiga from Mazda.
Will Mazda sell it cheaper or faster than Maruti/Suuki ?

I fail to understand why people buy such badge-engineered cars ?

That's because of Huge Cost of Production, Testing, Homologation,...etc and the volume required to breakeven is too huge for smaller companies to do that.

By means of rebadging, we were given the car sans development cost, so ultimately we benefit.

Now the volume generated by Mazda VX1, Chevy Spin & Ertiga should be more than the sale of Ertiga alone, so this helps all car cos to keep price competitive.

Might be the case with other re-badges but here its a good thing for Mazda, as from the looks, except front grill, every other parts can be bought off shelve from Maruti.

Actually I like rebadges, a perfect example is Pulse. They made a sober looking hatch into a Aggressive & Hot Hatch.

I think the one more reason is that since now days companies are doing R&D in partnerships like FIAT engine for example...which is why they have rights to rebadge the product and sell it.

Nice Idea! But even, after that we will need minimum capital of 70-80 billions! Who will finance us? :D

It's rebadged car for us! but in other market where Suzuki isn't offering ertiga, will give nicer responce to this! & This trend is very old, even Nissan is selling rebadged A-stars across the globe, which are produced in India!

The same people who are ready to lend us their car for rebranding , if they are fools in the first place , it then becomes our duty to make a bigger fool out of them.

I have never met a car that i did not like.
