  1. I would advise not to buy this car since Resale value is rock bottom. Even if you use for 1-2 years, you will hardly get 1-1.5 Lakh.

  3. Hi there, We own Tata Indigo XL Grand Dicor, purchased on 03-05-2007 from 'Sterling Motors, Solapur'. It has crossed 63000+kms. The car since new is giving series of problems. 1. In June 2007, the car met with an accident (A dog came in front of car and got killed), which cost about Rs.35000/-. (Odometer reading 8,500kms.) 2. Again after 15 days, the coolant was leaking. So we showed to Sterling Motors (SM) from whom we purhcased. They replaced the Water Pump under warranty. (Odometer reading 9,740kms.) 3. In August 2007, the car stalled in middle of road while driving. I tried to start the car but in vain. There was a bus stop ahead of our car. A person on bus stop said that the Diesel is leaking from under the car. (Thank God that we were in our Home City and not on a Highway when the car stalled.) Then I called the Manager (Mr. Nitin Patil) of 'SM' and told him about the incident. He sent the Road Assistance car for inspection with some necessary parts. The mechanic checked and said that the Main Fuel Line (it is made of Metal) which supplies fuel to the Engine has developed a crack. The fuel leaked from there and hence the Engine was not starting. The mechanic went back to bring that metal pipe from SM as he did not bring it before. He then replaced it. I was charged Rs.300/- against the Road Assistance provided. The pipe was replaced under warranty. (Dont remember the Odometer Reading). 4. In February 2008, the car refused to start even if car was unlocked with Remote (Indigo XL comes with Factory-Fitted Engine Immobiliser). We tried unlocking the car with Remote 7-8 times but in vain. The 'LOCK' indicator on instrument panel was blinking continuously despite unlocking with Remote. The indicator was not turning OFF. It was night time and my Dad was at his friend's house which is 2-3 kms from our house. We parked and locked the car there safely and returned home. On next morning, a mechanic from Chavan Motors, Solapur (Tata Authorised Service Center) came and inspected the car. He interchanged the 60A fuse (not with a new one) but the 60A fuse present adjacent to it and tried to start the car. And what a surprise, the car started without any fuss. We brought the car to home. After 2 hours, again the car refused to unlock with Remote. Again the 'LOCK' indicator on instrument panel was refusing to go off. Again I interchanged the 60A fuse with its adjacent one. But still no sign to unlock. Again I interchanged both the 60A fuses and this time the car was unlocked with remote and the car started. We told SM (sterling Motors) about this. They inspected the car but could not find any problem. In March 2008, Mr. Nitin Patil (Sterling Motors) called me and said that the above problem of Remote Locking was detected in couple of other Indigo XLs also. So he told me to leave the car at their workshop and they will replace the Complete Remote Unlocking Kit with a New One. So I gave our car. They replaced the Complete Remote Unlocking Kit, the Timing Belt and the Pressure Plate (Both Timing Belt and Pressure Plate got wet with Engine Oil).All the three were replaced under warranty. (Odomter Reading 34,780kms.) 5. Again in April 2008, the Auxillary Coolant Tank starting leaking and had to be replaced under warranty. (Odometer Reading 38,150kms.) 6. Indigo Xl's Grand Variant comes with Electric Seats. In May 2008, the Front Passenger Seat refused to move 'To and Fro' (only back rest and height adjustment were able to be adjusted). Again I got it (Electric Adjustment Switch) replaced under warranty. (Odometer Reading 41,593kms.) 7. Again in May 2008, the starter refused to start the car. After showing to SM, they repaired the starter under warranty. (Odometer Reading 42,758kms.) 8. In September 2008, the AC Belt was replaced under Warranty. (odometer Reading 53,950kms.) 9. Again in October 2008, the car suffered from Coolant Leakage and also the Temperature Guage showed that the Engine overheated, then the Engine shut off because of Overheating. This time Auxillary Coolant Tank was replaced under warranty. (Odometer Reading 57430kms.) 10. In November 2008, again the Coolant Leakage Problem arosed. And this time the Temperature Guage on instrument panel showed that the car was overheating. The car This time SM replaced the Thermostat stating that the coolant was coming out of the Auxillary Tank's cap because of Back Pressure. Now still the Coolant Leakage is present Now I am thinking of going to Tata Motors Regional Office and tell them to sort the problem as I lost faith in Tata Motors Dealership. Also I will contact But when I emailed to on 20 March 2008 for some other problem, I received no feedback from ACI. Still waiting for the reply from Autocar India.   4. Hi there, From May 2007, our Indigo LS (Diesel Low-End Model) was not responding to the amount of throttle applied. I had to apply more than half throttle in each gear to make the Indigo move forward comfortably. At that time I did not pay much attention. I thought the pick up must have reduced because of usage. The odmeter reading was around 136 kkms (may be in the range of 1,36,000-1,37,000 kms). We used the car in that condition till this may (may 2008). Then in 3rd week of May 2008, I showed it to Tata Authorised Service Station (TASS). The Manager (Mr. Patil) is very good friend of mine (Matlab unki aur meri ab kaafi jaan-pehchaan ho gayi hai kyunki hamari dono gaadiyan Tata Indigo hain And our new Indigo XL parts were replaced 5-6 times means different part at different time). He helped me a lot in getting warranty. Back to my Indigo LS problem, He checked and showed me that a 'free-play' had come at the end of accelerator cable (located under the bonnet). He said "Maybe the fuel pump not responding to the amount of accelerator applied. Show the car to the Lucas Service Centre". (The fuel pump is of Lucas Make). I showed to Lucas SC (service centre). The technician (Nilesh Shinde) checked and said "The fuel pump needs calibration. Some parts of fuel pump will have to be replaced as well. Estimated cost will be around Rs.5000/- (Parts charges=Rs.3500/- and Servicing charges=Rs.1500/-)". He told me to send only the fuel pump through TASS. So I took the car to the TASS. They removed the fuel pump and sent to Lucas. After two days Mr.Patil called me and said "Lucas has calibrated the fuel pump and we have fitted it to your car. You can take delivery of your car". I went to TASS. I took a test drive to check the pick up. But I was disappointed when I noticed no improvement in pickup. I told Mr.Patil about this. He agreed with me. He advised me to show it to Lucas. On that day itself and from TASS only, I called and told Nilesh Shinde that I will not make any payment of Lucas as the pick up has not been restored. He talked with Mr.Patil, but Mr.Patil backed me. Nilesh Shinde insisted to make payment but I did not do. Then he (Nilesh) said ok bring the car and he will see whats wrong. Then I took the car to Lucas again. Nilesh Shinde adjusted the Antistall and idle rpm setting and told the car is ok now. Again I test drove, but still did not feel any improvement in pick up. I told Mr.Patil that I am not happy with the job carried out by Nilesh Shinde. He told me to take the car to Miraj (Near Sangli and Kolhapur) which is around 160kms from our city (Solapur). He told me that the report of Miraj is good. I took the car there. They removed the pump and checked the calibration and refitted back saying there is no problem. I did not get desired road to check the pick up. And as it was late (6pm), I returned home (since it was going to take 3-4 hours to arrive at home). I test drove in Solapur, but still no improvement in pickup. Then after one month (mid-June) Nilesh Shinde called me and said the payment is overdue. I said I will not make any payment as the pick up has not improved even after carrying out the job at two different places (Solapur and Miraj). He said "This is not fair. Either get the fuel pump recalibrated or return the new parts which have been put in the your fuel pump and I will fit your old parts back".But I did not listen to him and did not make any payment. Again the Accountant of Lucas called me and said your payment is overdue. He gave him same answer which I gave to Nilesh Shinde. Again he (Nilesh Shinde) called me 2 days ago for payment or return the new parts fitted within the fuel pump. I said to him that the fuel pump is not a bulb which, even after removing and refitting every now and then, will not get damaged. It is very sensitive item. I said Neither will I bring the fuel pump nor the car to him. And I am not going to make the payment either. I also called Mr.Ravi Gore, Lucas Senior Executive, Pune and told him my grievance. He said he will talk to Nilesh Shinde and call me. Then after some time he (Rahul Gore) called and told me that he has given two readings to Nilesh Shinde which he (Rahul Gore) took from R&D and requested me to take the car to check whether the readings match with our car's fuel pump. But I opposed this and said to Ravi Gore I will not be going to Nilesh Shinde hereafter. Ravi Gore also said to me that if the fuel pump is calibrated and still the pick up problem exists then the fuel pump is not to be blamed and its the engine which is the culprit. I told him that when Nilesh Shinde inspected the car the very first time, at that time only he(Nilesh Shinde) should have told me that the engine is culprit and not the fuel pump. On this he said 'Yeh sab aapke bahaane hain kyunki aap payment nahi karna chahte". Then I also told him to call Mr.Patil (TASS Manager) as Mr.Patil knew about the problem and would explain Ravi Gore better. Now after talking to Mr.Patil, Ravi Gore suggested me to bring the car to Pune and he himself will check what is the problem.   5. Now here's the Latest Update. The Top Speed was limited to 80kph. So wanted to get the Pump Serviced from a Lucas Reputed Workshop. Since the Fuel Pump was not attended properly by Lucas Service Center at Solapur and Miraj, I decided to take the car to Pune's Lucas Service Center. When I enquired at Pune (Dapoli) Lucas Service Center in 3rd Week of Feb 2011, Mr. Rahul Gore asked me to take the car to Lucas Service Center in Solapur. I told him that I got the Pump Serviced from Solapur and Miraj in May 2008 but did not see any improvement in the car's behaviour. He then told me bring the car to Pune. I ask him the estimate of the job. He replied "If Normal Servicing is to be performed, then the Cost would be around 3-4K and if the Rotor is to be replaced, then the cost would go in the range of 11K". On 25th Feb 2011, my brother took the car (Indigo LS May 2004 2,12,000+ kms) to Lucas Service Center, Pune for Fuel Pump Service. Rahul Gore inspected the car and told that the Rotor needs to be replaced. I agreed to that. Then after opening the Fuel Pump, Mr. Rahul Gore showed my brother that the Fuel Pump was not serviced before at any of Lucas Workshop since the Factory Seal was Still Intact. The Rotor and some other parts were replaced and the car was handed to my brother. After carrying out that job, the car feels Much Much Better to drive. Its Throttle Response has Improved A Lot. The Top Speed has also increased (Have not checked personally but brother says 130+kph). Alas, I had given the car directly at Lucas Service Center Pune itself in May 2008. I would not have lost Rs. 5,860/- against Lucas Service Center, Solapur. Means I got cheated at Sterling Motors, Solapur since I had given the Car at their workshop for Pump Servicing in May 2008. Sterling Motors, Solapur is the One of The Most Hopeless Service Center of Tata Motors Ltd.
  6. Indigo Problems. HELP!!!

    You did not mention whether your Car is DiCOR or Non-DiCOR. Check the Thermostat Valve which is mostly the culprit behind the Coolant Spillage from Aux. Tank's Cap. It costs about Rs.650/- (the Price of Thermostat Valve) and takes about 20-30 mins to replace. Replace the Valve with New One and see if the problem gets solved.
  7. Hi friends, I have an idea for Indian Government to REDUCE 1. Pollution and 2. Loss Faced by Oil Companies. All Fuel Pumps should be fitted with Latest PUC Machines to Check the Pollution of ALL VEHICLES (>=2 Wheelers, Petrol, Diesel, LPG, CNG) >=2 Wheelers include (2, 3, 4, 5, 6,.......)wheelers. The Government should announce Concession in Prices of Fuels to those Vehicles (Yes Vehicles and Not the Vehicle Owners) whose PUC is below the LIMIT stated in PUC Norms. The Concession should be given corresponding to the PUC Reading of the Respective Vehicle. And for the vehicles whose PUC Reading is more than as per stated for that particular vehicle should be charged FINE in the form of EXTRA PRICE for the Fuel he fills. Example. Whenever a Driver or a Rider (as the case may be) comes to fill fuel at the fuel pumps the Pump attendent will check the PUC of the vehicle at the Pump (and not agree to the PUC card available with the Driver or Rider) and verify with the chart provided to the Pump. If he finds that the PUC is well below the Norms applicable for that vehicle, the Pump will give concession "corresponding to how low the PUC of the vehicle is" in the Fuel which is filled in that vehicle. Suppose a Petrol car comes for filling Fuel. The Pump attendent will check the PUC of that car by using the machine available at the Pump. [He should not agree to the PUC Card available with the Car Driver which the Car Driver has drawn before from any PUC Center.] Then the PA (Pump Attendent) will verify that PUC Reading with the Reading available in the Pump Chart. Suppose the PUC Reading of the car he checked comes to about 2%. The PUC Norms for Petrol Cars state that the PUC should be less than 3% for Petrol Cars. Now the PA will give concession to that Driver as per the Government Announcement made for the Petrol Cars PUC Norms. Suppose the Govt. announced that for every Percent below the PUC Norms Re.1/- Per Liter Concession will be given to the Petrol Cars, then in above case, the car driver will get Re.1/- Concession for Every Liter of Petrol he fills in his car. If he fills 20 liters, he will get Rs.20/- OFF on the bill that would have been normally resulted. If the PUC of the above car would have been 4.5%, the PA (Pump Attendent) will charge Rs.1.50/- EXTRA ( above the Petrol Price at the Pump) for Every Liter of Petrol that is filled in above car. If he fills 20 Liters he will have to pay Rs.30/- above the bill that would have been normally resulted As the Pollution of most of the vehicles is more, this idea will help the Oil Companies come out of LOSS because the FINE will be charged more than that of Concession Given. Same goes for Cooking Gas. The More Months you use a single cylinder before refilling, the more Concession you will get at the time of Refilling. The Lesser days you use a single cylinder, the more Fine you will be charged at the time of Refilling.

    2. The mechanic told you that the Compression of Engine has dropped. But this could not correct since your bike has run just 25Kkms. The vehicle does not idle that means the Idle Rpm is set very low. Increase the Idle Rpm and see if the problem gets solved. But adjust the Idle Rpm only when the Engine is Warm (the vehicle must have been run for 10-15kms at speeds of 40-50kph. 3. Change the Drum Pads with Genuine Size (130mm). If you use 110mm Pads the brakes will not provide efficient braking. There are many mechanics who would not mind fitting 110mm Pads instead of 130mm just because they dont have 130mm pads in stock. 4. Get the Engine Oil changed, air filter and spark plug cleaned. Check and adjust tyre pressure.

  15. Right Engine Oil

    You can try out 0W30 or 0W40 Engine Oil. But take care that the Engine Oil you would use is Specifically for Two Wheelers and not Four Wheelers.

    Why dont you people wait till the car becomes stationary into reverse? Also try this one-- After the car comes to complete stop, press the clutch for 5 seconds and then shift to Reverse. It Really works in my Case(if the Reverse does not get engaged easily).
  17. Fevi Kwik/ M-Seal came to therescue

    The Indigo LS (May 2004) Radiator was busted due to a dog smashing in 2005. It was fixed with M-Seal and till date the car is fine without any leakage. Also the Right Black Trim on Front Bumper came off due to some other car sliding along our car (driven by chaffeur). I sticked it with Araldite, pasted some Cello Tapes and kept it for more than 24 hrs. Now after removing the cello tapes, the Trim is well fixed.

    After coming to stop, declutch for 5 seconds and then engage the reverse gear. Please dont press the brake pedal unless it unavoidable during engaging Reverse Gear.

    Off-Topic BF, I did not get it properly. Is this you want to say-- Remove the Key from the Ignition and make the End of the Key Touch the Body of the Car. But I did not understand one thing-- How would the Static Charges get earthed when I am holding the Plastic part of the Key while making the Metal End (of the Key) Touch the Body of the car?

  22. Tata Indigo Dicor Belt Problem

    I don't think that Fiat's Parts' Quality is as Poor as Tata. Fiat is much better than Tata. An Example. I replaced the Low Beam Headlight Bulb Left Side two times and I used both the bulbs which came with the car (in the Glovebox). Then I could not get the Bulb (H7 55W) at the Local Tata Dealer (Solapur). Then i had to go to Pune for some work. I bought H7 55W Bulb at Pandit Automotives' date=' Tilak Road, Pune. I got the Bulb in the carton of Fiat (Not Tata). And now the Bulb is Working Fine. This is Difference between Fiat and Tata Quality. My Friend, you have given the answer yourself. The Injectors can get Blocked (Clogged) due to Adulterated Fuel also. So how could you curse Fiat Quality instead of Petrol Quality. Edit: The car in Question is Tata Indigo XL Grand DiCOR.
