    bigger amp is out of question.. cause your cars electrical system will not be able to support those amps power demands.. the honda city, will not be able to support a bigger amp than 500wrms, there will be heavy internal and head light dimming, which is not good for ur cars electronics... so i'd suggest you go with the mentioned alpine amp and ur choice of 4ohmdvc sub rated between 400wrms to 600wrms... If you want any Alpine, Blaupunkt, Sony, Cerwin Vega, JBL, JVC, Panasonic, Clarion... products, we can ship it to you. getting the car alt and battery to give 14.4 volts, is not possible under real time conditions.. until you are using a variable eliminator on a bench test...     Any driver ( speaker will perform at its best within the given range of +/- 33% power of its given rating.. meaning a 600wrms sub will do just fine when powered with a 500wrms amp.. that alpine mrd 501 is a solid performer... it give 225@4ohms, and 500wrms @ 2 ohms.. you will need a 4ohmDVC sub, you can wire the Voice coils in parallel to get a net load of 2 ohms, so that that amp can perform to its fullest.. all the subs you have mentioned come in D4 ( 4ohm dvc) and D2 ( 2ohm dvc) version.. you will have to buy the 4ohm dvc... the pioneer sub is rated at 1000wrms.. that would not be a good match as you are just giving it 50% of the power it requires.... the kicker compvx again is rated at 750wrms... a tad bit underpowered but this sub would do good with 500wrms power ( if installed in a 2.25cu.ft ported enclosure tuned to 32Hz) the kicker L5 again is a solid sub..and is a very good match for that alpine amp.... but this sub again is hungry for a 2.25cu.ft enclosure tuned to 32-35Hz ..... ( I have personally been happier installing round subs as compared to other shapes, reason being their geometrical shape inherit some typical properties that adds distortion to sound { you may not be able to notice this if ure a mad bass freak, but if you are used to listening to quality music then you will surely like the sound of a round driver as compared to any other ) all the above subs are DVC's and are available in the 4ohmdvc version, so u dont need to worry... although.. I have a few more options in mind... depends a lot on ur brand affinity, ( in car audio 10% is product selection & 90% is installation ) so it wouldnt matter a lot.. for me i would choose amongst the following Alpine SWR 1242D Cerwin Vega V-max 12.4 JBL P1224 either of these 3 in a 1.25 cu.ft sealed enclosure... but thats my choice for crisp tight clean transients ... if you listen to a lot of hip hop or rap you may want to go for a ported enclosure for low end extension... again.. let me repeat... in car audio 10% is product selection and 90% installation... so you really dont need to worry about what product you choose ( ofcourse no pyle, or lighting, or lanzar, boss etc brands, cause they are poorly manufactured ) if you have matched the components of you audio system correctly and tweaked them properly then you are bound to get satisfactory results.. hope this helps.. have fun SADesigns2008-12-29 07:35:41

    trojan... if theres no sub.. you wouldnt need a lot of that material... even though its a mid sized sedan it would suffice to get a hatchback kit... 25sq.ft of material would be more than enough... prices and other details are already on the link given above... check them out...

Hatchback - Sedan - High end installs This material has sandwiched fiber mesh for reinforcement and it is a marine grade material heavier and denser and more effective then others available in the market. Type 1 and 2 are different materials. A combination of these have been given in each kit. easily applicable and usable sizes of Type 1 - 4" x 24" ( fiber mesh sandwiched in between 2 layers of bitumen, one side has a permanent protective poly cover and the other has a peel off paper to peel and stick, very high quality adhesive too, with just 4 mm thickness it would not hinder anyother articles in your car and will add much more wight as compared to other damping products available in the market. This material weighs 0.36kg / sqft ) Type 2 - 6" x 8" ( fiber mesh sandwiched in between 1 layer of shock absorbent composite layer and the other a butyl layer with bitumen filler, this too is an easy peel off application.   12. 3 stage damping is what i told you .. PERIOD .. reason i take time is to take dimensions, custom designs for fibreglass mouldings.. to finish the moulds, lot of labor work and time in that... system break in ya say 50 hrs of play... and whose gonna play for 50 hrs continuous ..at the max one could play for 10 hrs a day... and unending tuning.. to flatten the response as much as possible along the entire audible spectrum... extensive RTA and O'scope usage... around 1 week for dimensioning, and developing a design... 2 weeks for the entire fabrication... 2-3 days for cabling... another day or 2 for installations.. 50 hrs of breaking in means another 5 days atleast of breaking and tuning... and then a few more days to satisfy myself with various genre of music and their reproduction before i deliver the car.... in the beginning, the car needs to be at the install bay at intervals of a couple of days say 4-5 times... then i would need the car for the last 1 week ... for cabling, install and tuning... every single minute detail needs to be taken care of, and nothing should be imporper or missing... the client should not step at my dealership regarding this system ever again.. until he gets a new car and a new system.... damping roof for SPL... just for an example.. take a db meter, set the system that plays between 100db to 120db (( this is in the range where the entire audible spectrum can be perceived by the human hearing in the best possible way..)). place a glass filled with water... place it on the roof .. and see how still the roof flexes without the damping applied... with the example of 2 different sized rooms and ever changing internal volume of the car due to flexing....couldnt you digest the fact how flexing affects SQ as well as it would affect SPL... as for SQ and SPL... you cannot have either seperated from the other no system can be perfectly SQ or perfectly SPL... it is always a mix... in different ratio's ... necessarily every system is an SQL system ... and neither can one have a perfectly balanced 50-50 system with SQ and SPL ... one can never perfectly create an ideal acoustic environment in an automobile.. that is why we need to take utmost care and to things that sound immaterial.. so that we can reach as close as possible, if not perfect... polyester fibre or ensolite, foam etc are not for vibration damping, they are for high freq absorbtion,,, although the soft foam seperates two vibrating parts and cuts off the noise, it is not a very effective vibration dampner... audison is just one manufacturer making a damping products .. it is thick paste that you can paint on a surface using a brush .... the fonoseal and fonogel are brand names given by the manufacturer.... there are many many such damping materials made of composites and various ingredients... every manufacturer claims their product to be the best.. but mostly all are the same... many manufacturers are in this feild... there are some materials that are used in home/pro audio that can be applied for car audio too...   13. ronit... a 3 stage damping require one more ingredient.. and that is a damping paint that goes over the entire frame structure of the car.underbody.. and at the back of every metal piece of your car... . for that you would have to rip every part of your car out and paint as much metal as possible..... the second stage is where the damping mats come in use, and the 3rd is a high frequency absorbing material that is the foam sheets, or ensolite or other such materials... since most of the audible disturbances are taken care of by the stage 2 damping mats, most dealers, distributors and installers dont even know about the real 3 stage damping process.. and those who know, don't bother to go that extra bit, as it involves a lot of labor and is time consuming.. anyways.. there are many misconceptions about these things.... so made it clear.. what are you referring to when you say a 3 stage damping.. please explain... although.. what i mentioned above is what the 3 stage damping actually is... If you are going about it your way... with the entire install, or the way local dealers or installers guide you, then you really don't need expert advice here.... Its a long way to go with the system.. and we are still building a foundation... you may hae many pre-conceived notions about a car audio system, but notions dont work opposed to hands on experience and technical know how... I am not trying to tell you i know everything and u know nothing.. simply asking you to follow the path i show you , for a professional level install that you will be amazed off... skipping the floor and the roof... you may not realise a difference now, may be cause u may not be an audiophile who can notice every single minutest detail recorded and reproduced in the audio system.. any automobile is such a hostile environment for sound that you need to create an acuostic environment whith minimal reflections, minimal transfer of vibrations, minimal flexing and maximum absorbtion.... flexing.. roof and floor are the biggest span of sheet metal.. flexing means that due to the pressure created by the sub-woofer pounding, the sheet metal blows like a baloon... and the internal volume of the car is ever changing due to that flexing.. this means an unstable acoustic environment every time you listen to the music.. imagine listening to the same track at the same volumes in 2 differnet size of rooms.. and then imagine what if the room size is continuosly changing while you listen to the music.... since a car is a small acoustical environment... untrained ears may not be that sensitive to the difference.. but if u use a RTA and O'scope to measure the reproduced sound you will see a huge difference... anyways.. take your pick, its your car, your money and your system... It takes me around a month to install a high end music system.. planning, designing.. fabricating fibreglass moulds, damping, cabling, installation, tweaking, breaking in of the system, and then tuning for unending times... i am not saying its difficult.. just be open to grab knowledge, follow expert advice.. be patient.. and the fruits will be really sweet... I am taking you on a professional level of install... to follow this route or take another one is completely your choice.... the strips on the roof will go in a diagonal direction in a criss cross . net like pattern... this reduces the resultant transfer of vibration through different cross sectional areas of the sheet metal...it also is the most effective way to cut on flexing of the sheet metal using minimal material....
  15. we are all learners ronit.. just that a few know more than others.. simple.. anyways.. did u start doing the damping? cut 4 rectangles or 1ft x 1.5ft to use on the floor .... = 6sq.ft cut 30 strips of 3inches x 2 ft to use on the top... = 6sq.ft 1ft x 2ft for use on the rear boot door = 2sq.ft 3ft x 2 ft to use on the floor of the boot = 6sq.ft 2ft x 2ft to use under the bonnet = 4sq.ft that is 24 sq.ft till now... for the doors 12 pieces of 1inch x 2 inch = 2sq.ft 12 pieces of 2inch x 3inch = 6sq.ft and 12 strips of 1inch x 4inch = 4sq.ft thats a total of 12 sq.ft for each door ... meaning 48 sq.ft these are in pieces for ease of installation, and also so that most of the parts are reached and covered without bubbling or folding of the mat and there is maximum surface adhesion.... out of the 80 sq.ft , 72 is used up.. keep the rest 8sq.ft on hand, to be used for number plate or other places that need damping... or a double layer wherever required.... once this is done.. the 6mm or 1 cm foam sheet would cover as much as possible under the trims, carpets etc.... behind as many plastic parts if possible.... get this much done before we start with the equipment..
