  1. Finally got my Punto CNG-ed

Rising petrol prices forced me to think time & again to switch to an alternative fuel. I was initially thinking of selling my 1-year Punto & get a diesel instead. But my pocket didn't allow me so as I was to shed 1.5lac extra to meet my needs. Researched thoroughly over the net to find out if someone got his Punto on CNG..But didn't find any. Finally came across a thread on TFI & the guy got his Linea on CNG recently. His feedback was very encouraging & told me that the pick-up has rather improved. He had installed a sequential kit from West Delhi..I inquired for both sequential & conventional & finally stuck with my pocket. Got the kit installed yesterday & feel no difference in pick-up whatsoever. Infact the gear shifting has become smooth in 1st & 2nd gear...I hope my decision give me good results.
  2. Finally got my Punto CNG-ed

My running has now gone up to 55kms a day..The kit costed me Rs.25000+3500 for the RC
  3. "Punto is sluggish", a mere MYTH

@bala: Great topic & great facts ...Its a myth that lot of non-users carry but people who actually own Fiat, know the truth.
  4. FIAT to improve AC efficiency

Source ACI Nov Issue: Growing customer complaints of poor cooling, especially in the 1.2 punto and 1.4 petrol linea, has forced the company to redesign the entire HVAC system. All fiats now sold will come with new air-conditioning units which include a new variable compressor and a beefed up condensor unit. However, for existing owners, fiat is planning to retrofit a kit that will have all the parts of the new air con system to sort out the problem. This process could take a couple of months and will begin in regions where ambient temperatures are hotter than elsewhere.
  5. Fiat Punto or Volkswagen Polo?

Hi Aditya, I have been using Punto 1.2 for last 8 months. I haven't experienced any issues with the ASS or the poor quality parts. I'm very satisfied with this car. When I was looking buy a car, I had checked out both I20 & Polo, but neither matched my criteria. Polo is very cramped & equip list is very poor. I20 is no VFM unless you wanna shell out that kind of money. The suspension is very soft. Here are my thoughts on PUNTO: (won't talk about looks) 1. Good VFM as compared to its competitors. The feature list even on the base model is ahead of other cars in the same price range. Not commenting on I20 since the price is too much. 2. Suspension is rock solid. Bumps, bad roads etc, this car eats all. You can also check out Overdrive's detailed hatch comparison. Punto was the best in this dept. (ahead of Polo & I20) 3. Steering response is amazing. You will love holding it again & again. 4. 1.2 is underpowered. But for city driving its absolutely fine. FE would be better as compared to 1.4. I have been getting FE of 12.5-13 regularly. 5. No service issues as such. Spare parts are very cost-effective. I haven't faced any problems with the service till date. 6. Plastics are average as compared to Polo & I20. But they are not too bad. I would suggest to experience it yourself. 7. The Aircon is good. The new punto's & linea's are coming with an improved version. Don't think about the resale right now. Even Polo is new so it doesn't guarantee the same. If you are ready to extend your budget, go for Punto 1.3 MJD emotion. Its a fully loaded deal. I would suggest you to compare both cars & you will arrive on the conclusion. If you are brand conscious then blindly go for the Polo.

  7. Source TOI : 21 Oct 2010 As its partnership with Tata Motors failed to yield desired results, Fiat is charting out a new strategy to turn around its fortunes. The Italian car major plans to open exclusive companyowned brand stores in major cities, apart from hiring a consultant to suggest revival path. The brand stores would be an indirect way of starting its own retail format without involving Tata Motors, though the company has denied this. The stores will help in generating inquiries (and hence sales), with the aim of marketing Fiat cars. Fiat has been a laggard in the Indian market, despite having competitive products like Punto and Linea and failed to ride the boom in car sales. Alarmed, it is now taking steps to highlight the brand more aggressively, "something that will be done through the exclusive brand stores," Rajeev Kapoor, MD of Fiat's India operations, told TOI. The company, which has seen sales fall 8% in the first six months of this fiscal at a time when the overall car market boomed 34%, will open the brand stores, or "image points" , at Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bangalore. "These stores will display the "real" Fiat brand, and would be a place for meetings , a place for small gatherings and events," Kapoor said. Fiat will also display its merchandise and accessories at these brand stores, which will also serve authentic Italian coffee. "We want the customers to experience what the Fiat brand stands for as we feel that the focus at the dealerships is more on selling cars than on brand promotion ." Fiat, known globally for style and flair, is trying to recreate the model that it has developed in several countries to highlight its brand. Globally, the company has several image points to showcase brands like Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Kapoor, however, emphasised that the stores will not mean setting up of an independent retail network by Fiat. "This will remain confined to the joint Tata-Fiat dealerships. But yes, the stores will help in generating sales inquiries and pass them on to the dealerships." Fiat has also hired global consultancy firm Accenture to suggest ways to improve its position in India. "It will have a comprehensive look at our retail network in India and point out weaknesses and ways to address them." Fiat and Tata Motors have a 50:50 joint venture, Fiat India Automobiles.
  8. FIAT to improve AC efficiency

@asgadv: i have been facing the similar problems with Rama Motors..About 2 weeks back i went to get my door lock checked & saw that there was heavy rush..people had prior appointments..i was a walk-in..i waited for about an hour & still got no response..spoke to manager but his attitude was very snobbish..i couldn't take it more & called fiat helpline immediately...believe me within minutes i got a call from Sanya motors okhla workshop & they guided me to thier workplace..i know sanya is pathetic if compared but i got better response from them..i came back & mailed fiat about rama's attitude & since then i have been getting regular calls from rama to get my car serviced there..i have been ignoring them but they are pleading...this is the second time it happened with me at rama...but i think fiat is very responsive..the way things were handled at their end is commendable...i think rama is running short on labour since dussera & they are experiencing heavy bookings...it would be better if you call up fiat directly...

  14. Inviting all true fans: The Punto Club

@ Devil: I'm sure your friend & his dad will never regret their decision..Honestly I look Punto as a silent leader..it has never shouted at its buyers to own it @ Bala: Guess your prayers will be answered soon..FIAT has lots in its kitty to bring it here..The Tjet is one of them.
  15. FIAT to improve AC efficiency

I faced AC issues in starting in my punto 1.2..a leakage was detected & since then the AC has been fabulous..i haven't used it above 2 till now..its better that even then FIAT is working on strengthening customer confidence...I feel FIAT is treating their present customers with utmost attention..again my personal opinion.
  16. FIAT to improve AC efficiency

nothing has been mentioned about the recall yet. i think its gonna take them a while.
  17. Inviting all true fans: The Punto Club

    it is indeed
  18. Fiat opening brand stores without Tata

There are lot of small dealers that push the customer to a TATA product as they don't carry complete info in Fiat cars. Many buyers have complained this to Fiat. Agreed that Punto & Linea have underpower enfines but every buyer is not concerned over the power. Both cars have many plus points which other cars don't have...Both products are highly competitive with the features offered. People always have this mis-conception of Fiat products not VFM... Fiat would be launching a Palio replacement in 2011 which would be a volumes game..They are still keeping that under cover.
  19. Inviting all true fans: The Punto Club

out of topic...to be frank 1.2 does lack power..but if u are a regular city driver this car is absolute ok..i have always kept between 2000-2500rpm mark..the second gear is very sluggish...but apart from power if you are looking for a comfortable ride, features this is the best bet...till date i haven't faced any issue with the plastic quality, service or anything..i guess fiat workshops are good enough like others...so depends if u are looking for more power go for the MJD if it suits...

  22. Punto AC issue

Guys, I have been facing issues with my 1.2 AC. Its not cooling the cabin during the noon & sometimes I sweat even with the AC on. The car has done only 2000km & the AC isn't that great...Took it to the workshop & they installed a kit protecting the AC pipes in case of any leakage. I was told that punto's with Ac issue are getting this kit installed..I have checked but the cooling is still pretty bad... All punto owners, please suggest if u are/have faced the same issue???
  23. Punto AC issue

the AC has finally been rectified..its a big relief as the workshop's machine wasn't functioning...there was a leakage in the exhaust valve that connects to the dashboard..resulting in improper cooling & minor gas leak..they replaced the valve & refilled the gas...& the AC is working super cool
  24. Punto AC issue

@rahul: I don't think its a major issue. It happens with all brands from maruti to vw...Fiat has always been a silent runner & they are doing theit bit..Of course the fit & finish is not upto the mark but I would still give it to them for their superb ride quality & styling..Remember even swifts rattle @drnishu: they have detected a leakage in my aircon but unfortunately the ac repair machine was not working fine..they have asked me to give the car on saturday...will update on this.
  25. My New Italian Affair

First of all a big HI to all the forum members. Am a newborn in this forum & this is my very first post...Before I go ahead I would like to tell you all that I have been browsing this forum for last 8 months or more but somehow always felt lazy in registering ...I have gained immense knowledge from u all & thank u... Ok coming back to the main topic, I would like to share my happiness of owning my new italian possession: PUNTO 1.2 Active... It all started last year...I was desperate to have this beauty since it was yet to be launched..I was running after my dad & trying to convince him but somehow things didn't work out..So decided to chuck my plan & admired every car I saw on road..Finally, my long admired possession, Zen started to show signs of giving up & was thrown in to a situation of changing my car...Meanwhile, somehow I convinced my brother (lives in the US) to partially help me purchase the car & to my surprise he decided to gift it instead of contributing...So I started the process of inquiring about NRI Car loan...This was really frustrating as it was hard to find a bank with this facility. Asked ICICI, Kotak, SBI, Axis but nothing happened. At last, got a green signal from HDFC. They told me that they don't have much experience in NRI Car loans but assured me that my loan would be approved..So I submitted all the docx filled by my brotherin hard-copy... Meanwhile, my dealer told me that Fiat is offering discounts & would be better if I book my car in May...Discussed with my family about this & decided to book..But took some time as I was confused about the color. Was thinking White but somehow couldn't convince myself..Luckily Fiat lauched 2 new colors - fox azzure & tuscan wine...I liked the azzure on the Linea & decided to book this color. But that evening I saw a punto in this color & was disappointed. The car looked overgrown & too matured (no offence)..Again aksed my family & decided to book tuscan wine...I asked my dealer to show this color in flesh but he told me that they would get it only in the begining of june...so I took the risk & booked this color. Meanwhile, HDFC guys told me that the loan can't be processed further as its an NRI case & won't be able to give us the loan..I was frustrated & shouted at them..But destiny had another plan for me..Luckily we were able to arrange finance on our own & dropped the plan of taking loan...The final day arrived-5th june & reached the showroom at 5.30pm..spent 2 hrs & completed the paper work..my dealer was more happy than me at the time of handing over the keys since it was the showroom's 1st Punto in tuscan wine..The delivery ceremony completed & he handed over the keys, chocolates & flowers..Asked dad to drive this new angel but he said he was a bit scared as this car was huge...With all smiles I jumped into the car with mom & started our journey, while dad followed us in another car..reached the gas station & got the tank filled & headed straight to the temple..As expected I saw many heads turning & staring at my new angel..All I could do is SHOW-OFF!! ...Reached the temple & completed the puja & headed home...Parked the car safely at my place & went to my apartment...Next morning, as expected, my neighbors congratulated mom & dad & simply kept admiring... Its been 11 days now & am loving this car more & more...I wait for every morning to drive this lil angel & can't control my excitement... For all of u, who have spent time in reading this post, here are the pics... I thank u all once again..Cheers!!! CYRUS432010-06-16 18:13:56
