dr_nishu got a reaction from EduardoHom in New 2014 Honda City i-DTEC/i-VTEC Review, test drive

Honda’s engineering brilliance has been embodied by its i-VTEC engines, but this time around Honda is counting on its i-DTEC diesel motor to script the next chapter of its success story in India. The diesel motor in question is the 1.5-litre i-DTEC that debuted in the Amaze. The engine itself has been carried over unchanged to the City. The gearbox is shared too, and the first five gears are identical to the smaller saloon, with a new sixth gear specifically for the City. Even though the City is roughly 45kg lighter than the previous-generation car, it is still 90kg heavier than the Amaze, so a shorter ratio is used for the final drive to extract a bit more zing from the 20.4kgm of torque. In fact, Honda claims that the City i-DTEC will be the most fuel-efficient car in the country, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 26kpl! We can’t wait to put it through our test cycle in Mumbai to see how it performs in the real world.

On our first drive in Jaipur, however, our first impression of this car is that it has minimal turbo lag. The responsiveness even under 2,000rpm is very handy. Once past the 2,000rpm, the motor pulls cleanly to over 3,600rpm, making it hassle-free in the city and outside it. Although revving it to its 4,000rpm redline offered little advantage, and it did highlight this motor’s sore point – the engine noise. Since the abundance of engine noise was a bugbear of ours in the Amaze, better sound insulation was almost taken for granted in the diesel City, and it is slightly more refined than its little sibling. Sadly, the coarse engine rumble is still clearly audible in the cabin, and it’s not quiet enough for the class standard.
Despite this foible, the diesel is sure to hog a big chunk of the sales, but true Honda fans will no doubt be keen to know more about the petrol.

However, the back seat is a place you don’t want to miss in this car. Step in through the rear doors and it feels like the City has been stretched by 50cm not 50mm. Knee room is ample, and the seat base is generous, with lots of under-thigh support. Dedicated air-conditioning vents for the rear passengers and two power outlets round off a sumptuous back seat.
Honda is trying to wow the people in the front seats too. The company has been getting some flak for the interiors of its cars and things have changed significantly with the new City. The design looks richer, with a silver 'T' running across the dash, and the glossy piano black trim adds to the appeal too.
There’s also plenty of equipment on offer. The instruments for the driver are big and easy to read, rings around the dials glow blue or green (depending on your driving style) and the chunky steering wheel is a high point, with well damped switches for the music and telephony. After much criticism for its omission in the previous City, the music system brings back a CD player (with DVD support too), along with the now mandatory Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in. A five-inch screen is the interface for the music system, while the air conditioning system is operated via a touch panel. And let’s not forget, the City also offers a sunroof.
But while the cabin is well equipped and well specced, it doesn’t feel cohesive. In terms of design, the LCD display for the music system looks lost in the piano black surround.

dr_nishu got a reaction from Palpphank in TATA Nano Twist(Nano with Power steering)

The middle and top end variants of the Nano Twist will get the ZF-sourced electric power steering system.
The middle variant of the Nano Twist, equivalent to the existing CX, will become the XE, while the top variant of the Nano Twist, equivalent to the current LX, will become the XT model. The Tata Nano Twist is expected to be launched on January 15, 2014.
The Nano Twist will also be offered in a purple paint shade option for the first time and the EPS version will be approximately around Rs 15,000 more expensive than the equivalent non-power steering Nano (which is expected to be sold alongside the EPS version). The biggest grouse against the Tata Nano has been its heavy steering, the result of a flawed steering geometry that Tata hasn't quite got right on this 630kg, rear-wheel drive car.

Now, the Tata Nano Twist could overcome one of the car's major drawbacks.
The ZF electric power steering has taken about a year-and-a-half in development and Tata engineers have fine-tuned the calibration of the hatchback to give a good balance between low effort and road feel, according to company sources.
Since its launch in 2009, sales of the Tata Nano have been a fraction of what Tata Motors hoped for. Although Tata has upgraded the interiors and exteriors of the Nano in a bid to entice buyers, the stigma of the world's cheapest car has kept many buyers away.
The ZF-sourced electric power steering system on the Nano Twist marks the first mechanical upgrade for the Nano since its launch. This upgrade is a part of Tata Motors' new Horizonext strategy which seeks to improve existing products, sales and service to combat the recent slump in sales.

dr_nishu got a reaction from katbuncBact in New 2014 Skoda Yeti L unveiled

Skoda Yeti facelift for China will sport a tailgate-mounted spare. Indian Autos Blog spotted this refreshed Yeti Long Wheelbase at the ongoing Guangzhou Motor Show.

The spare wheel is mounted on a separate metal arm which swings to the left-hand side and enables access to the boot. The same sort of mechanism is seen on VW’s CrossFox in Brazil as well.

We also notice that Skoda has shifted the position of the registration plate enclosure from the bootlid to the rear bumper. The Yeti shown at Guangzhou was the Outdoor variant which sports a few visual features such as silver skid plates and plastic body cladding. It remains unclear whether Skoda would also introduce the Yeti Style in China, and if they do, whether a similar arrangement for the spare wheel would be followed.
The Yeti which you see here is a stretched version sporting a 2,638 mm wheelbase (as compared to the standard Yeti’s 2,578 mm). Overall length has increased from 4,223 mm to 4,275 mm while the height has reduced from 1,691 mm to 1,682 mm. (Source: Indianautosblog.com)
Do you think it'll work for India ? Will it give VW-Skoda much needed SUV in 15-20 lacs price range to rival on Toyota Fortuner, Nissan upcoming X-Trail or Qashqai & Renault koleos !
Well i think, it can work well here.

(Source: Indianautosblog.com)

dr_nishu got a reaction from jeannacecek in Renault Nissan Alliance and Mitsubishi join hands. Will this revive Mitsubishi in India?
I'm least interested for anything associated with 'Mitsubishi', except reading SUVs & Engine Oils.
Why such a capable company is quiescent for everything, even for such a biggest developing market like India, from which they can operate to various global markets also. Why keeping a mum over the segments for which they're having tailor-made products, like hatchback & notchback cars.
Really they're lacking for the massive opportunities now, atleast here for India.

Renault has announced the launch of its ‘Gang of Dusters’ initiative, which, according to the carmaker, offers customers and their families a chance to enjoy adventurous and long drives across the country with the Renault team.
The programme was flagged off from Mumbai on August 15, 2013. The West Coast expedition will start from Mumbai and see owner-driven Dusters pass through Panhala, Dandeli, Goa and Kolad before heading back to Mumbai by August 19.
“After creating a new segment and reshaping the perception of Indian drivers about SUVs, the Renault Duster has been one of the most popular vehicles in the country over the past year and has won over nearly 60,000 owners”, said Sumit Sawhney, executive director, marketing and sales, Renault India Pvt Ltd
“The Gang of Dusters is a celebration of a fabulous year and an opportunity for us to share with Duster owners a sense of freedom and excitement with an adventurous drive and welcome each and every one of them into the Renault family.”
According to Renault, participants will have the opportunity to meet and share experiences with other Duster owners and drive enthusiasts, as well as visit historic sites, go on a wildlife safari, talk to a rally expert, take part in impromptu rallies, go rock climbing, build rafts and attend interactive service sessions, among others. The Gang of Dusters initiative will continue after the West Coast expedition, with regular drives organised for owners across India in the coming months.

dr_nishu got a reaction from Illubyjitty in SCOOP! TATA NANO diesel spied
Much-awaited diesel Nano to get 3-cylinder motor and revised front and rear bumpers with larger air inlets. Could be the most fuel efficient car here.

Tata’s highly anticipated diesel variant of the Nano is currently undergoing tests, but a launch date is still uncertain.
As is evident from the pictures, the front end of the diesel Nano features a revised bumper that incorporates a bigger air inlet for better heat dissipation, along with rounded foglamp. Other than that, the car’s front end looks similar to the 2013 Nano launched recently.

At the rear, the exhaust pipe gets moved to the left and there is also an openable rear hatch, missing on the current car. The shape of the rear honeycomb grille mimics the one up front.
Tata is currently focussing on pricing the diesel Nano competitively to retain its value-for-money positioning. Another challenge is bringing noise and vibration levels down to acceptable levels before launch.
