  1. It was announced in December that Chrysler will be entering India with the Jeep brand. And now here we have a scoop picture of the Jeep models which are slated to be launched in India. This pic was taken by an Autocar India reader. The first Jeep product to hit our shores will be the iconic Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler made its debut in 1987 as the successor to the famous World War II Jeep, also known as Willys CJ (Civilian Jeep). The latest-generation Wrangler (code: JK), like the original CJ, uses front and rear live-axles. Fiat is testing the short as well as the long wheelbase versions, and is likely to launch both in India. The Jeep Wrangler arriving here is expected to be powered by a 2.8-litre common-rail diesel engine that’s good for 197bhp. The next Jeep model seen in the spy picture is the Grand Cherokee. Codenamed WK2, this is the fourth-gen Grand Cherokee, powered by a 3.0-litre common-rail diesel that makes 237bhp and is a proper luxury SUV. The Grand Cherokee was recently given a facelift that included some cosmetic as well as mechanical upgrades such as an 8-speed gearbox. Although this looks like the pre-facelift version, we expect Jeep to launch the updated model in India. The Grand Cherokee is based on the Mercedes-Benz M-class – it is thoroughly modern and promises to offer superb off-road ability with plush, comfortable interiors. Initially, both the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee will be offered as CBUs. Chrysler has already set up an R&D centre in Chennai that houses about 1,000 employees and is the third-largest Chrysler R&D facility worldwide.
  2. SAIC will soon come to India. There are talks that it will bring the MG-Motor brand to our market first. But they also have this butch LDV 90 SUV in their line-up which is also sold in Australia. This means, they have a RHD version too. I think this can be a good rival to the Compass, Fortuner and the likes if priced aggressively.
  3. The Duster has got Renault great success in the Indian market. So now they are thinking of launching an MPV from the Dacia portfolio, the Lodgy. This 7-seat, three row MPV would be a direct competitor of the Maruti Ertiga, the compact MPV which has opened up an all-new segment in the Indian market. It could be launched here in 2014. The Lodgy would relatively be easy to manufacture in India as it borrows a lot of its mechanicals from the Duster. It will be powered by the venerable Renault 1.5 diesel K9K that is now the staple engine for most Renault-Nissan products in India. However, keeping the practical characteristics of the Lodgy in mind, Renault is likely to offer just the 84bhp version of the K9K motor, which would be less expensive and more fuel efficient than the 110bhp option that comes in the Duster. The Duster’s 1.6 petrol engine is likely to power the entry level Lodgy. If it is priced between 7 to 10 lakh rupees, Renault will have another winner on its hands in India.
  4. I have always loved the Duster for its macho and butch looks. And I think it has awesome street presence as well. But I always wished that it came with 4x4 to go with the looks. Looks like things might changed. Renault is looking to launch the 4x4 Duster in India next year in March. Renault apparently exports the Duster from India under the Dacia name. The 4x4 is said to come in only the 110 bhp avtaar and a 6 speed manual tranny. The 4×4 system on the Renault Duster is a selectable system with a knob on the dashboard, just below the AC controls, to the left of the gear lever, allowing the driver to switch between two-wheel drive (2WD), automatic four-wheel drive (where the Duster decides when to transfer power to the rear wheels depending on wheel slip and traction conditions) and 4×4 lock mode – where the Duster can be locked in 4×4 mode for off-road use on sand and snow. 5. Chevrolet has launched the Sail sedan with both petrol and diesel options. While petrol variants are priced from Rs 4.99 - 6.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the diesel variants are on offer from Rs 6.29 - 7.51 lakh. The Sail saloon is the second model in India from the GM-SAIC joint venture. The Sail saloon is powered by a 79bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel motor. The diesel motor comes mated to the F17 gearbox whose ratios are tuned specifically for India. The company's claimed fuel efficiency figures are 18.2kpl for the petrol and 22.1kpl for the diesel motor. The base trim-level comes with power steering, front power windows, power mirrors, tilt steering, a digital tachometer, engine immobilizer and a 12V power outlet. ABS and EBD come standard on all trim levels. The LS trim level adds full wheel covers, body coloured wing mirrors, fog lamps, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear power windows, central locking, audio system with Bluetooth and USB, rear parcel shelf and a driver airbag. The top-end LT trim comes with standard ABS and also adds features such as alloy wheels, leather gear knob, passenger airbag, speed sensitive autolock and keyless entry with remote. Available in seven colour options, the Sail saloon will come with a 3 year/1,00,000km warranty and 5 year/50,000km warranty on powertrain. Chevrolet has no plans to launch an automatic variant anytime soon. Read the Autocar India review here:http://forum.autocarindia.com/index.php?/topic/9233-aci-review-chevrolet-sail-sedan/
  6. Instead of usual fanfare, Japanese car maker Isuzu has gone ahead and silently opened bookings of the MU-7 SUV and the D Max pickup in single and double cab configurations. The first dealership has come up in Hyderabad and a second one will be coming up soon in Coimbatore Prices: Ex Showroom Hyderabad MU-7 SUV - Rs 23.75 lakhs D Max Single Cab - Rs 6.87 lakhs D Max Double Cab - Rs 8.09 lakhs Pretty steep pricing if you ask me. The D Max will surely have a tough time competing against the established, tried and tested Mahindra products

  8. The soon to be launched Quanto from Mahindra has created quite a huge buzz right from the time the first test mules appeared to the more recent undisguised photos. Mahindra is looking at opening up a whole new segment with this launch. There has been a lot of speculation on the price and if at all it is a true 7 seater. Coming back to the point. Do you think the Quanto will be a success? Will it prove to be a good alternative to premium hatches? Lets hear your opinion guys
  9. Bad Experience with Renault

Hi Guys, I booked a Renault Duster on the 30th of October 2013 from RENAULT THANE under the offer of 30,000 Exchange Benefit - 4 yr Warranty - Road Side Assistance - Gang of Dusters Membership. He asked me to submit my old car by 31st of October which was not possible as within 12hrs. decision couldn't be made. He later called me up and said the offer is over and I wont get any of those despite me booking the car in offer period. I sold my old car later on 12th of November and found on 14th the same offer has restarted in Newspaper. I had to give him the full payment but didn't give as now since I waited this long I wanted a car with a manufacturing year of 2014 since only one month was left in 2014. I told the same to the sales person and he said that the new lot will arrive in mid March or April. Just to confirm the same I called Renault Andheri and they said that it will come by end January. I had to bow down to his demand and promised him to give full payment by Tuesday 3rd December. Hearing this he yesterday i.e. 30th November gave me call at 7pm saying that Renault is hiking car prices of Duster by 30,000 - 40.000 and only way you can save yourself the money is by making the full payment by tonight (which bank is open at 7pm). I said that I couldn't do it and he replied by saying "sorry sir then its out of my hands now".I did the same as earlier and called the Renault Andheri showroom and the sales person there said that "the customer who has booked a car at earlier price is given a weeks time to do the payment at earlier price after the announcement of the price hike". As a matter of fact my sales person gave me 2 hours to do the same. Now neither I can buy a 2014 manufactured car, nor get away from paying the increased price. So here I think I ended up being a loser. GUYS PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW.

  13. I've been using this car since July 2012 (all thanks to my boss! )and yes this is my company car- a 2009 Tata Nano LX. Regular readers of the Autocar India magazine would recognize this one instantly! Here's why.. This is the car that was one of the first Nano's to roll off the showrooms and we gave you a full dealership and buying experience when we bought it. AND this is the car that was featured in numerous reviews, road test, long term tests in Autocar India. YES! This is the car that did the epic trip from Singur to Sanad. and Yes (If i am not wrong!) This is one of the very few Nano's that can proudly be called as "Made in Singur"! One of my best experiences with this car was in December last year when I took the car for a routine service at Tata Motors' workshop in Worli Mumbai. A young chap of around 20 was curiously checking out this golden nano. I saw him seeing the car for almost ten mins from various angles. Feeling suspicious, I went near him and seeing me, he raised a question, sir, is this your car? I said yes, Its a company car. But may I i know why do you ask? He said yes, I remember this one, 4068. Its Autocar India's Nano! I remember this one very well. This is the one that made me take the happy decision of buying my first car and then he pointed out towards a yellow one that he had brought for servicing. Hearing all this from him made me proud of the iconic little wonder that I get to use daily and also the publication I work for. This is just one story, I have come accross some more people who remember the cute 4068 very well. One of my colleagues who was part of the Singur to Sanand Drive also bought a similar Nano as a personal car and there are many more! Will come up with more of my experiences with the Nano soon. Its indeed "Khushiyo ki Chaabi" for many Indians! and yes it has more features ( little things that matter) which are not available in the newer 800cc cars! So today (17/2/2013) I took the car to Motoshines, Saki Naka for a steam wash and interior cleaning. Now let the pictures do the talking! This is the place I went to get the car cleaned, Motoshines, Saki Naka, Mumbai The car before cleaning treatment The floor-mats getting cleaned Interior gets a through vacuum done Clean interior for sure Steam wash process starts and more steam wash and some more Ozone treatment starts, this is a treatment done to remove all foul odor from the interior of the car. Total time for the Ozone treatment was 15 mins. The tyres getting the "shine treatment" Clean, real clean interiors and seats. The dash got a mild wax polish done too! Ready to go! Total time for this process, approx 45min to one hour. Approxmate cost: Rs 500 for both steam wash and interior treatment.

  17. Global car giant Toyota Motor Corporation will consider launching moresmall cars and entering fast growing segments like compact SUVs in order to achieve market leadership in India. The company, however, said in the absence of a clear cut Indian government policy relating the auto industry such as fuel policy and import tariff, it is adopting a wait and watch strategy before deciding on setting up of a new diesel engine plant in the country or launching more hybrid cars. "If you look at our portfolio in India, we have just one small car, Liva. We need more if we have to have big volumes in a fast growing market like India," Toyota Motor Corporation Managing Officer Satoshi Ohiso told reporters here. While he did not share details of the company's future product launches, Ogiso said another prime focus of the company is the fast growing compact SUV segment. "Globally, the compact SUV segment is getting more popular and in India it is also the same. We will definitely have our presence there," he said, without elaborating details. 18. Looks like there are a lot of Chinese cars testing now on Indian roads. Here are pictures of a Great Wall Haval H3 SUV testing around Pune. Great Wall Motors is China's 8th largest car maker. Engine wise, Great Wall licenses one of the engines from Mitsubishi: a 2.4-liter inline four cylinder engine. For China alone, Great Wall sells the H3 with a 2.5 and 2.8 petrol engines as well. Power transmission is performed by a 5-speed manual unit, though a 6-speed automatic was developed for the Hover H7. Great Wall is China’s biggest domestic SUV brand. It sold 280,000 Haval branded SUV models in 2012, posting almost a 90% increase compared to 2011. As sales soared, Great Wall felt the brand pull of Haval was strong enough for it to be autonomous. Thus Haval became a sub-brand and the refreshed lineup sporting the new brand plate was brought to the Shanghai Auto Show last month. Source: IndianAutosBlog
  19. SPOTTED: Jaguar F-Type testing in India

Its here. The Jaguar F-Type has landed in India. This gorgeous looking white car was spotted at KBS Chowk in Chinchwad Pune. The rear badges and the badges on the alloy wheels were covered. The standard F-Type, if we can call it that, comes with a supercharged 3.0 V6 under the bonnet. It puts out 335bhp and does the sprint to 100kph in a claimed 5.3 seconds. The S model puts out a substantially higher 375bhp and there’s even a ‘mad hatter’ V8 S that puts out 488bhp. 0-100kph in the V8 S takes just 4.3 seconds. The F-Type will, however, come to India in two variants, the supercharged V6 S and a supercharged V8 S with prices expected to be in the range of Rs 1.3-1.5 crore. The F-Type is slated for a July 2013 launch Here are the pictures Pics Source: IndianAutosBlog
  20. Skoda is all set to pull the plug on the Fabia and will stop selling its only hatchback in Indian the market. However, Skoda will finish assembling Fabia kits before stopping production and hence the Fabia will continue to be sold, possibly till the end this year, until stocks are exhausted. Skoda’s decision to withdraw the hatchback from the market was prompted by the huge losses the company has been incurring on the Fabia. Successive price cuts over the years to prop up demand has seen this car shedding almost 40 per cent of its price tag since its launch in 2008, which badly squeezed margins. The Fabia’s relatively low level of local content made it very expensive to produce and this problem was compounded by the Indian Rupee depreciation of 36 percent since 2008 which pushed up costs even higher. According to industry sources, Skoda was losing as much as Rs. 1.5 lakh per car and hence the company was deliberately refraining from aggressively marketing the Fabia which sold a meagre 3,343 units in the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Last month Skoda sold a paltry 115 units. Earlier this year, Honda withdrew its premium hatchback the Jazz, for similar reasons as the car was just too expensive too produce. Read more here: Fabia to be discontinued I think this is a good move by Skoda. I was never really a fan of the Fabia, never liked the front end especially and always found it to be overpriced. The Polo outsold Fabia by a huge margin really and to be honest Im happy to see it go.

  23. The Aveo U-VA never really took off when it was launched. It was a very ordinary car with dull interiors and poor plastics. Wasnt fun to drive either so eventually it failed to gather a good sales figure for GM in India. Now Chevy is back in a second innings with an all new hatchback the Sail U-VA. (The 'Sail' name reminds one of the Opel Corsa hatchback) It is actually going to be the first locally produced and re engineered for India Chinese car. From the pictures, the looks are not very modern or new age . It looks just like an ordinary hatch. The same can be said about the interiors. However the Sail is going to come with the option of a diesel engine which was missed in the Aveo U-VA. No prizes for guessing what powerplant it will use. Yes, its our National engine the Fiat 1.3 MJD. The petrol will have a 1.2 liter unit. With competitors like the Swift, Figo, Liva and the Micra, the Sail will surely have its work cut out. Do you think the Sail hatch will bring in the volumes for Chevrolet, something which the predecessor couldnt? Or will it turn out to be another sales dud?
