  1. Autocar India's sister magazine Autocar UK drives the Volkswagen Taigun concept in Brazil, here's a review The Volkswagen Taigun concept is a compact four-seater SUV that's set to rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Fiat Panda Trekking. Parked up on next to the kerb in the sleepy Argentinean town of San Antonio Areco, the Taigun is put into perspective in the very surroundings it can expect to encounter when sales begin in 2016. Concept cars have a tendency to appear out of place away from the spotlights of a motor show, but apart from its vivid blue paint scheme the new entry level Volkswagen SUV looks thoroughly convincing among the cafes, shop fronts and municipal buildings that line the town’s square. It is unmistakably a Volkwagen when you're standing next to it, with clear similarities to the larger Tiguan. A wheel-at-each corner stance also gives the Taigun a heavy dose of visual confidence for something so compact – an observation that is further enforced by its 17-inch wheels, which with 205/65 tyres help to fill its substantial arches. Nothing is official just yet but signs are the new five door will see production with only subtle changes to exterior styling, a collaboration between Volkswagen’s main design studio in Wolfsburg and its Italian off-shoot Giugiaro. 2. Honda has taken the covers off its latest NSX concept car at the Detroit show.. Essentially a lightly tweaked version of the NSX concept shown at last year’s Detroit show, the new car gets a proper interior for the first time. The cabin looks near production ready, Although is expected to be tweaked as the NSX is further developed. A styling highlight are the big carbonfibre struts which run from the dash into the centre console. The NSX will not go into production for at least two years, and will be built in the US, where most of the car’s development will also be carried out. The car will use a mid-mounted V6 coupled to an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, and electric motors driving the front wheels to give four-wheel drive. Honda's Super Active All-Wheel Drive system will also be fitted. More pics and full story here: http://www.autocarindia.com/News/328958,new-honda-nsx-revealed.aspx
  3. Toyota has revealed its Toyota Corolla Furia concept car at the Detroit motor show, the firm’s first clues as to the future direction of its best-selling saloon. The Furia is the latest in a string of recent concepts from Toyota with bolder and more distinctive designs, following a personal plea from company chief Akio Toyoda for the firm to become more daring and break free of its conservative image and appeal to younger buyers. The concept is 4620mm long, 1805mm wide and 1425mm high, with a wheelbase of 2700mm giving it relatively short overhangs. The concept is boldest at its front, with the design a much more striking interpretation of the look found on the new European-market Auris.A sharply raked windscreen and low roofline ensure a lower sleeker profile than that of Toyota’s current Corolla. A usual array of more outlandish concept features make it onto the Furia, including 19in alloys, lashings of carbonfibre trim and a large rear diffuser with integrated exhausts. “The Corolla Furia Concept is an early indicator of where our compact car design may lead in the future,” said Toyota vice president Bill Fay at the concept’s unveiling in Detroit. He hoped the design “would surprise a lot of people". View the full gallery of the Furia here: http://www.autocarin...-gallery,1.aspx
  4. Volkswagen has decided to joined the compact SUV bandwagon as it revealed a concept at the Sao Paolo Motor Show. Called the Taigun, the compact four-seater previews the look set to be adopted on a planned new Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke rival to be positioned and priced below the Tiguan when launched towards the middle of the decade. The Taigun is based around a stretched version of the VW Up’s NSF (New Small Family) platform. At 3859mm in length, 1728mm in width and 1570mm in height, the Taigun is 566mm shorter, 82mm narrower and 130mm lower than the Tiguan. The concept is not four-wheel drive, as the NSF platform currently only supports front-wheel drive.Power for the concept comes from the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with 108bhp and 129lb ft as the upcoming Up GT. Drive is channeled through a six-speed manual gearbox. The 985kg Taigun can crack 0-100kph in 9.2sec and reach a top speed of 187kph. VW plans to sell the Taigun in each of their global markets. That means the Taigun will come to India as well. This could well go up against the Mahindra Xylo and the Ford Ecosport out here. I think it should be priced ideally between 7 to 9 lakhs
  5. Suzuki has revealed the first few images of the new S-Cross crossover concept. This will in future form the base of the next-gen SX4 hatch, which is sold in international markets. It may also come to India later in a saloon form, just like the current car. The S-Cross concept gets bold styling with LED headlamps and huge chrome wheels. It also gets LED DRLs in front. Rear styling looks a bit Audi-inspired, especially in the design of the tail lamps. There are no details on engines yet. Suzuki will officially unveil this concept at the ongoing Paris Motor Show 2012.
