2014 Auto Expo Discussion and pics thread.

Awesome start to the Expo. Must say pleasantly surprised with both Bolt and especially Zest. Both look classy and sporty. The equipment levels are good. AMT is icing on cake. Really liked the side profile of Zest. To be honest i had an impression it will be same Vista with changed grill. But the lines on bonnet, DRLs give it a character.

Way to go Tata. Now the Service (pre and post sales) is something which will make or break these otherwise excellent cars.

Auto Expo 2014: Hyundai Xcent is the Grand i10 sedan

The Xcent is Hyundai’s first sub-four-metre compact sedan and will take on the Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze; March 2014 launch.

Feb 4, 2014

Hyundai’s big launch at the Auto Expo will be the new Xcent compact sedan, a model that has been shown to the media for the first time today. The Xcent is based on the Grand i10 hatchback and carries much of the small car’s styling. In fact, there’s nothing to differentiate the two cars right up till the rear doors. But you can tell the Xcent was envisioned as a compact sedan derivative of the Grand i10 from the very start from the way the tail section blends in smoothly with the rest of the design. The Hyundai Xcent looks quite unique at the tail and promises to offer best-in-class boot space as well.

On the inside, the cabin is a carryover from the Grand i10 which means a smart dashboard and high levels of fit and finish. As with other Hyundais, the Xcent will come loaded with features including rear air-con vents, rear parking camera, a push-button start and even a USB-ready audio system with 1GB internal storage. Top variants will go one-up on the Grand i10 hatchback, however, with the inclusion of automatic climate control. Steering-mounted audio controls, dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes are some of the other features you can expect on the top-spec Xcents.

The Hyundai Xcent sedan will use the 1.1-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engines from the Grand i10. These engine will be mated to five-speed manual transmissions as standard though the petrol car will be offered with a four-speed automatic option too.

With the Xcent, Hyundai makes its foray into the lucrative compact sedan segment. Going by how well the Grand i10 hatchback has been received in India, the Xcent has the potential to cause a serious dent to Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze sales. The new Hyundai Xcent compact sedan will go on sale in March 2014.

Maruti Suzuki today unveiled two concept models!! The sedan Ciaz and crossover SX4 S-Cross!!

The SX4 S-Cross and Ciaz are models which would expand Maruti Suzuki's product range in the near future.

(I am online via mobile.. Pls someone upload the pics!!)

The Ciaz has got very aggressive styling!! But its still in its concept stages.. What really matters is how the production model would actually look like!! This car is supposed to take on the C Segment sedans like Honda City and Hyundai Verna!!

Its the same SX4 replacement car we've been talking about. But I am not so sure about the SX4 being phased out! The Ciaz might just be priced a bit above the SX4! That's just my guess.. Let's see how things turn out!!

Maruti Suzuki, displayed the SX4 S-cross, today at the AutoExpo!!

The SX4 S-cross is a compact crossover that is built on a new platform and is roughly the size of a Renault Duster. Maruti has confirmed that it will go on sale in India at some stage, and it will be positioned above the Renault Duster, but below the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara - and so in the region of Rs 15-20 lakh. What will differentiate this crossover from the rest, however, is that it will get four-wheel-drive with low range, and it has reasonably good ground clearance too.

Nice work gto and prashant

The Ciaz is a looker for sure, hope it does not suffer the fate of Kizashi. The styling is like that of an Audi and a BMW, hoping they arent foolish enough to price it like one of them.

The S-Cross is a step in the right direction , better late than never. Though major market has already been captured by other manufacturers.

Price them well to make your sales ticking.

Volkswagen has revealed a near-production-ready version of the VW Taigun SUV at the 2014 Auto Expo today. The car is based on the Volkswagen Up! supermini and is expected to go on sale in 2016. It would compete with likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport.

The concept car gives us the biggest hint yet of what the production car will look like!! Changes over the concept that was first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2012, include a spare wheel that is now mounted on the boot door – both for easy access, and to free-up more boot space.

The chunky looks of the original concept car remain, however, and the car gets flared wheelarches, rugged side-trim panels, a beefy front bumper, roof rails and LED spotlights. The result is a small car that emulates larger SUVs from further up the VW range including the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Touareg.

Bright trim is prevalent inside, and the Taigun's seats get orange stitching around their edges. The interior is spacious, with extra headroom all-round and improved kneeroom for rear-seat passengers. The boot is also big at 280 litres. The concept car also gets a centrally-mounted touchscreen, sat-nav and a Bluetooth phone connection, all of which we would expect to be available on the production car

.

The four-seat Taigun is powered by a 1.0-litre, 109bhp engine. The engine is nippy enough for both town and motorway use. Although the Taigun has a raised ride height, VW describes the car as being designed for the 'urban jungle' and there is no mention of it being equipped with four-wheel drive for off-road grip. That means we can expect the Taigun to have car-like handling, while the raised ride height will give the Taigun's driver an excellent view of the road ahead.
