My Hyundai i20 magna option petrol

Recommended Posts

Hi there ACians. hello.gif

I’m going to write down a bit as to how we zeroed onto buying the Hyundai i20. I’ll go on step by step highlighting all the things happened while buying our i20. I will try my best to make it interesting and keep it short.

OUR DECISION TO BUY A NEW CAR

It’s around Mid 2011, Our previous cars served us well for about 10 years. But we all felt that it’s was the time we should buy a new car. The oldies were showing their age. tissue.gif

OUR PRIORITIES

• Space to accommodate 5 passengers easily with a big luggage bay

• Looks, it mattered to me. I wanted a car which could turn heads

• Decent FE, Every owners priority (AFAIK)

• Safety, though can live without it as our most driving is going to be in city

• Features, Wanted a car with some good features

• Easy driving, Much needed in city traffic

• Last but not the least, Has to be within our Budget of 6L

THE RESEARCH

This step is the most boring and lengthy thing every buyer goes through (IMO). I and my Dad went on to shortlist some cars fitting within our budget and priorities. We had to keep the budget in mind while selecting a car. We went to many forums, asking questions. Some were helpful and some not. After lots of researching, we shortlisted some cars and went on checking them...

THE SHORTLIST

Maruti Swift – OK, It’s a great car but I was never a guy who liked its Froggy front face. sick.gif

Hyundai i20 – This is the car which strikes, the styling, so many features, space, good maintenance, Decent FE. Probably the best car for city in its class. I was always biased towards it

Ford Figo – Liked it, great VFM, Good ride and handling. Maintenance is a tad too high. thumpdown.gif

Nissan Micra – Good looks, Has good features, nice ride and handling. Though not of my taste

Renault Pulse – It’s a new car then, so, wasn’t sure about it to make an impact and that has happened.

So, the cars passed our needs are Hyundai i20 and ford Figo. I even booked the Figo but then my dad’s colleagues said not to go with it, has some defects, FE wasn’t good and that maintenance stuff blah blah..! So cancelled it. The car left was the i20!

THE BOOKING

It’s was a hell of a hot day, mid July 2012 . Went to the Hyundai Showroom, 2kms from our home. The showroom manager greeted us well. He respected our decision. It always feels good when you get respect from someone; the Ford Guy wasn’t that cool!

Then some formalities and the car was BOOKED! shakehands.gif

THE WAIT AND THE DELIVERY!

Just 4 days of waiting and it felt like years. Anyways, I woke up early that morn the showroom guy phoned me at 10, told that the car is ready to be delivered! And I was like jumping and dancing full of joy. We went to the Showroom, the car was on display. Again formalities there and I was like WTF? I was waiting sitting there looking at the car for two hours. OK, formalities done! Offered some freebies and 10 litres of petrol . Got the keys and just didn’t wait for a second, started it and just zoomed off!

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE smiley_driving.gif

The i20 no doubt works best as a city car. The clutch is superlight and smooth, so as the steering. The ride is good, the rear seats are very comfortable. The handling not that good as you would have expected from a car like this, the highway manners are not that good, after crossing 100kmh the handling is a bit unstable. Though if you are gonna keep it below 90 it handles fine. The interior are classy, the plastics used are of high quality. The centre console looks awesome. The audio works fine, the AC seems to cool a bit slow, takes about 5mins in a very hot day. The interiors are spacy can easily accommodate 5 peoples. The boot is a very big one, very useful on long trips.

THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE

My experience with the i20 is so far great. I've never felt that I've done wrong to buy the i20. The maintenance is good, the customer care is awesome. The driving experience overall is good. I've clocked 14000+ kms in it and I'm happy with it.

CONCLUSION

Well the i20 is a good city car. But overall not a driver’s car for sure but if you’re a docile driver who just wants a car to be comfortable in & won’t be crossing 100 often then it’s the way to go. Steering feedback & confidence is pretty depressing on this car but should keep you very happy in traffic & parking as it goes very free when your parking that I often steer with one finger.

Sorry If I posted too much smileys, just wanted to make it a bit interesting

Time for the teaser..!

Very well written experience at the time of booking and delivery.

Teaser looks to be a super nice click. Are you into photography?

I got a similar experience during my Ford booking day before. The guy just seemed to be doing a mechanical chore. His lack of excitement drained mine too.

I'm yet to get a date for delivery since my cheque book is awaited. Will get my VIN tomorrow.

A suggestion Leo. Can you also post maintenance expenses incurred along with any nice and untoward incidences? It always helps someone else on the lookout of a new car..

Congrats on your car.. Looks neat

Nice buy Leo. Your car looks nice and you should get the fog lights and Alloys

Thanks prashant, I'm thinking of the alloys but not sure will go for the fog lights, the showroom guys said I have to change the front bumper to do that :( And will cost something around 18k

Thanks Neeraj and Ra4, No fellas TBH I'm a rookie when it comes to photography. And ya will post that maintenance expenses.

Great Teaser. Do update with maintenance what to see how much is the difference btw petrol and diesel i20

Don't worry go aftermarket there you can easily fit one for 5k max. Hyundai people claim that they need to change bumper since it doesn't come with fog lamp attachment, after market people fit it using the same attachment (I have seen it myself) after all its not rocket science. If you are going for alloys then firstly wear out your stock tyre and then get 15 inch rim and new tyres.

PS- Loved the way you used the smileys.

You can install fog lights in this bumper, my car is MAGNA too and have installed it,

me too had same problem service people were telling to change bumper , so i my self opened the bumper at home and saw the mounting points were available on the bumper where fog lamp cover was given, then wrote a mail to hyundai cusgtomer service, then they guided service people that this option is available in MAGNA and sent the fog lamp to service centre. it came with 2 fog lamps and a new headlight Stalk in which the new fog lamp switch (on/off) was inbuilt .

and then under my supervision got them installed on my car.

Meticulously explained the subject. Any retrofitting involves the modification in the wiring. Make sure any joining of wires are done using connectors or crimping. Any joining done by twisting or intertwining the wire will be a potential heat source. The complacent technicians thinks they know everything but mostly all of them lack professionalism. This means, the owner should supervise the job.

http://www.ebay.in/itm/Autographix-Car-DashBoard-for-Hyundai-i20-in-Black-Beige-Colour-/281170190871?pt=IN_Car_Accessories_Parts&hash=item41770ca217
