Ownership review: New preowned 2012 Honda Civic V AT

Recommended Posts

Its been 7 odd years since we sold Dad's old car. For the record he was driving a 1994 Tata Sierra. After the Sierra left it was only my Honda City that had been doing my personal as well as family duties and Dad would never really drive my car at all. We had been coaxing him to get a car for himself with my volunteering to do the search. However things would go cold in no time.

Finally last month Dad agreed to buy a car. I always had a pre owned Civic in mind for him considering his age and that would suit him perfectly. Dad also liked the new Honda City and was quite impressed with the feature list in the top end automatic. So that also came into consideration but I was not too happy with the idea of having 2 Citys in the garage.

3 weeks ago Dad came across 2 ads for a used Civic online. Out of the 2 I checked out detailed for one of them . This was a 2012 top end V automatic and run just a little above 15,000 kms. Spoke to the dealer and arranged to see the car on the weekend on the coming Saturday. On the same day in the morning we went and checked out the new City at the local Honda dealership for Dad to get a feel of things. After the test drive, Dad came back and sat in my City and found it more spacious than the new one. At 13.25 lakhs on road the new City is not cheap.

After seeing the City we went and saw this particular Civic. The car was spanking clean with pristine interiors , Michelin tyres and an unused spare. This car also came with a factory fitted Caska head unit with DVD, bluetooth, USB, Ipod, SD card and even a rear camera. I took the car for a spin and the car hadnt been revved in its life. Parents were sold on it then and there and we paid a token on spot and the end price we paid was a really good deal in the end. Brought the car home last week.

The car is still in extended warranty vaild upto 2016. Dad uses it everyday now and I havent had the chance to drive it much. Will update as the kms pile on. It at such times that when you get cars like these in the pre owned market that you feel going for a brand new car doesnt make sense.

On an ending note Dad mentioned he would never pay 13+ lakhs for a City. So now its an all Honda garage at home with the Honda Civic, my Honda City and my brother's Honda CB 1000 R sports motorcycle.

Here are some initial pictures. Our new pre owned 2012 Honda Civic V AT

Many Congratulations on your new acquisition !!

It indeed does look in pristine condition inside out.

There is absolutely no comparison between a City and a Civic.

More so with new City launch and seeing other upcoming Honda products (Mobilio), I feel they have gone a step down on quality front to achieve target price.

Awesome car you have got for a used car!

Spanking clean... car you've got...

I was myself looking at a used Civic before I got my Fiesta Classic. Just did not buy it for the running costs I'd have had to incur if I had got it :-)

I completely agree on your father's view on the new City.. its absurdly priced!

Many congratulations PH :)

That really looks in great condition. When you're getting a civic in that condition, really it doesn't make sense to go for City.

Looking forward for your driving experience.

Congratulations!! The car looks stunning!! I personally have always loved the sporty looks of the Civic. You made the right decision of not buying a city. Instead you got a bigger, more powerful and a more spacious car and that too in such good condition. The good deal as you said on the price you managed to crack was just icing on the cake.......thumbs up!!

Enjoy the ride!

@PH, if I remember well, Civic was discontinued in India around Aug 2012.

So yours seems to be the latest model sold in India.

At under 9 lac, it seems to be one heck of a deal.

How about the spare part availability?

Yes absolutely. Mine is one of the last ones sold. Honda was offering the Caska head unit as standard fitment from their end on the last cars. It was some sort offer they were giving and mine has that. Piece of mind since it comes fitted from Honda itself.

Spares should not be an issue as a manufacturer provides spares for 10 years after the model is discontinued plus there is plenty aftermarket support for Hondas as well.

My Honda City is now totally 11 years old but there is absolutely no problems for spares.

Plus my Civic is still under extended warranty till 2016

The RC card came finally after 3 months.

I got the 20,000 kms service done on the weekend. Oil changed with new synthetic, oil filter and the air filter. Brake servicing was done but skipped the wheel balancing and alignment since I will be changing tyres soon.

Total amount for the service came to Rs 6,200/-
