Let the begin!

Bernie Ecclestone has categorically stated that a medal system WILL replace the points system in Formula 1 from next year. Points will continued to be used to decide the constructors championship (as the money from the sale of TV rights is distributed to teams through it) but the title will go to the driver with the most number of gold medals.

The reasoning being that drivers will really push to get to the top step of the podium and not drive a safe race for points. Like Lewis Hamilton did in Brazil this year. He very nearly paid for it too as Vettel pounced on him and he had to count on Glock slowing to a crawl to win the title.

Before you say that this smacks of A1, remember that the medals awarded in A1 are just for show. The series still runs on points.
