Tirupati to Chennai  (125 km / 3 hours / good roads) / No good hotels in between.  But, not to miss the two Highway Motels on the Poonamalle Highway (just outside Chennai on the Chennai-Bangalore road).  Vegetarian snacks and lunch is simply superb.

Tirupati to Ongole (300 km / 6 hours / excellent roads) / Excellent food joints in Nellore.  Never miss Komala Vilas for superb quality pure vegetarian lunch and dinner.  No snacks please.  For all vegetarian snacks you need to go to Muralikrishna Hotels who have many outlets in Nellore.  Do not leave Nellore without eating icecream.  Every alternate eatery is an ice cream parlour offering great combinations.  Excellent Value for Money offerings.  If you miss Nellore, you may not get anything good till Ongole.

Tirupati to Bengaluru (255 km / 5 hours / good roads) / Stop in Chittoor at Vishwa Bhavan (new or old outlets) for authentic andhra meals and good snacks.  If you miss Chittoor, try stopping at Palamaner where IOC operates an excellent food joint.  You may not get good food in Kolar but have to wait till Bengaluru, which is a paradise for food lovers.

Tirupati to Hyderabad (550 km / 10 hours / good roads) / Eat well in Tirupati and leave.  You will sorely miss good joints in Kadapa.  Wait till you reach Kurnool (recent floods not dampened the spirits of this town which is fast returning to be normal) for good food.  Or, ideally, wait till you reach Hyderabad where you get anything and everything you need.  Veg or non-veg, south indian or north indian, mughalai or chinese, chai samosa biscuits to biryani to ..... everything at affordable prices.

Hyderabad to Bengaluru (570 km / 9 hours / excellent-good roads)

Road upto Kurnool (200 km from Hyderabad) is excellent 4-lane highway. Food stop at the entrance of Kurnool, just before the toll-gate (Ghar Dhaba). This would save time since you do not have to enter the city. Roads from here onwards are under construction, but whatever part is done is in good condition. Do not forget to stop at Gooty (315 kms from Hyderabad) to have a local herbal drink called 'Nnannare' which costs about Rs.6 per glass. Next stop at Anantapur (350 km from Hyderabad) for food or nigh halt. For night halt, Nama lodge is good. Proceeding further, next available place is Penukonda (425 kms from Hyderabad) where you can stop for snacks/tea/coffee. From here there are not too many places to stop before you reach Bengaluru.

@ bornfree

chandigarh is not on Delhi-Amritsar route

Kesar da dhaba is crap as compared to Bhrawan da dhaba.

MK hotel is a hotel, nice place to stay but food is not great. For food, visit the dhabas opposite the hotel for the finest kulchas.

I cant comment on Bheera chicken because i am an vegetarian.smiley36.gif

BTW whats MI?

yaa

one can go through via CHD if one has nothing else to do.

I mean why take a longer route?

Kulchas from ranjit avenue are great. MK is in ranjit avenue, so opposite MK means at ranjit avenue.

I usually have breaks in my Bangalore-Chennai trips at-

1. BP COCO retail outlet with A2B Ghar Dhaba at Chinnar, near Krishnagiri toll plaza on NH 7.

2. Hotel Saravana Bhavan, Vellore, located a few km from Satthuvachari flyover junction on NH 46.
