Kia Motors to debut in India soon

Recommended Posts

Looks like Kia is evaluating the Ceed hatchback for India! Now in its third generation, the 4.3m-long Ceed would pretty much start a new large hatchback segment. This means it will likely be priced at par with or perhaps even higher than executive sedans such as the Hyundai Elantra. To make the offering more appealing, Kia will only introduce the hatchback in GT Line trim that gets sportier bumpers, exterior detailing in red-and-black, and large 17-inch alloy wheels.

Kia has finally opened its first dealership in India, which is called Allied Motors and is located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The dealership is a multi-story facility and it had the Kia Stinger and Rio on display at the launch event.

It is worth noting that Kia is still a few months away from its entry to our markets and is hence still setting up its dealer network across the country.  Kia has reportedly announced Alyson Group as its dealer principal for the cities of Kannur, Calicut, and Malappuram in the state of Kerala.

Kia is going to make its entry to the Indian market with the SP2i SUV at some point later this year. Kia has already started the trial production run for the SUV last month. The SP2i will be powered by either a 1.5-litre petrol or diesel engine, paired with a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes. Also on the cards is a sportier variant of the Kia SP2i, powered by a 140hp 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit.

The SUV is expected to be well-equipped and will include some segment-first features such as a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and in-car WiFi.

The Kia SP2i is expected to be priced around the Rs 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom) mark and will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, and the upcoming MG Hector.

Which of Kia’s upcoming models for India are you most excited about?

Recent pics of the prototype showed that it'll get Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille and 205/65 R18 tyres with gunmetal grey finished alloy wheels( likely to be on offer on the top-spec trim). According to Autocar India, engine options on the Kia SP2i include a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, with both likely to be BS-IV compliant at launch and upgraded to BS-VI close to the official deadline for compliance.
