Mercedes R-Class Diesel comes to India, is it really needed?

Recommended Posts

They should have launched the R Class diesel in the first place itself. I dont know why Mercedes launched the petrol in the first place. Seriously what was Merc smoking? They had the 350cdi engine since a long time, they could have just plonked it in that time. The R was a flop after launch and a diesel now is not going to help. The Indian customer has so many choices in the market and one would rather be seen in an SUV than a van. It could find buyers in the hotel industry who may pick them up to ferry guests around but thats it.

In short R Class = failure

Actually, most of High profile SUV owners never uses their beasts for off-roading & this can give them better driviblity, fuel efficiency as well as exclusive looks & attention they wanted!

So, It can be good option for soft-core SUVs like porsche cayenne & Audi q3 also!

People who can afford to spend 60 lakhs on a car are all high net-worth individuals, CEOs, business magnates etc. and they want their lifestyle to reflect their economic standing. An MPV, irrespective of whether its made by Mercedes or BMW, just doesn't cut the mustard.

So, diesel or petrol, it doesn't matter. The R class in India is a flop. However, the car in itself is brilliant.

The R is gaining a lot of popularity in the builder circle in Mumbai. Its a really comfortable vehicle to be in and getting in and out is much easier than in an SUV. The customers who are paying so much money for this are the kind who already have some fancy SUV in their garage - or the ones who dont care about the price so much as compared to comfort.

Checked the R diesel its short of 3 features in comparison with Merc R class Petrol

Diesel doesn't have

Xenon lights

Rear entertainment system

Airlift suspension

I think it can be used as luxury car for elderly with good ingress

But diesel is quicker than petrol
