SCOOP: Volkswagen confirms 1.5 liter 4 cylinder diesel for the Polo but in 2014.

Recommended Posts

So finally Volkswagen has finally confirmed that they will introduce a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder diesel engine in the Polo but dont rejoice just yet. This will happen not before 2014. Two years to go. What do you think this car will be priced at? Pricing is definitely going to be crucial for this version of the Polo to succeed.

Opinions?

Heh. Two years is too long for anyone to make a guesstimate now.

By then, a lot of car makers will bring in so many new variants and

new models, such a guesstimate now makes no meaning at all.

Honda's diesel engines will come for sure. Even Fiat and Toyota

may come up with their own new engines, like Mahindra did now

for Quanto.

Guys..

1.5 diesel engine doesn't suggest anything different than Polo?

IMO, Polo is not the intended product for that engine.

Main reason behind this engine may be our norms that give excise duty benifits to car under 4 meter and with diesel engines below 1.5L capacity.

So does it suggest that some Compact Vehicle is under developement, specially for India??

Say Vento CS or Up! CS also VW confirmed that they going to come out with UVs so there also we can expect sub 4 meter offering.

Nice move VW. One engine that will make way for many cars.

Thankfully VW considered this 1.5 D option

Otherwise IMO the POLO was just a HOT HATCH for namesake

Even the 1.6 Petrol is just a gimmick , they should have plonked the 1.4 Turbo petrol ( Jetta fame ) in the Polo instead of 1.6 & calling it a drivers car.

This is something to look forward to.. But are VW saying 2014??? Isn't that a little too late to counter the pressure they face from its competition (Swift and i20)?

It sure would make sense to do it right away than wait until 2014.

And with this 1.5 ltr engine coming in, the Vento will also get the same, albeit a few more horses.

Assembly in India would mean a few thousands knocked off from its retailing price?

Correct! Even Ford Fiesta hatch is also getting ready with 1.5 powerplant!
