GM Onix, a probable & capable Swift beater

Recommended Posts

Most of us were thinking Why GM is bringing Sail UVA rather than Sonic to India when Swift is doing extremely well. But recently I got the answer. It COULD be because of ONIX.

Now about ONIX,

Its based on Beat's GSV platform

It could swallow our National engine easily

Its interiors are Beat based

Its spacious

Its looks better than Swift

Its back reminds me of SRV

Since most of the components are already present in India, this should make GM launch this car at competitive price in India.

If launched, this should complement Sail in a better way.

For economic & space conscious, its SAIL

For style conscious, its ONIX.

Now the car is launched in Brazil, expecting good news from GM India on this.

This is a looker for sure. This could be a superb car for GM to launch in India. Stylish hatchbacks are the in thing here now. The SRV was way ahead of its time in our market when it made a debut here. This on the other hand would work well. If they can have a top end diesel in the Swift ZDi price range GM will have a winner. The Chevy bow tie suits the front too.

Looks-wise, it is a stunner. More so, in this red+black+glass combination.

If it having a sizeable common parts with Beat, then, yes, why not bring it here

with the same time-tested and very popular Fiat engines.

While GM may take some time to finalise the interiors or the bells and whistles

for this, apparantly, the car styling and exteriors look not just great but far better

than great. With such a beauty in their stable, why GM is bringing those

China-developed stupid cheap products ?

A looker for the car in its segment but feasibility of this car with GM India, still seems to be remote IMHO.

I see another mass selling car maker in the making, favoring practicality over the product uniqueness.

Just to launch a Mass-Cheap product first there by getting some reputation in India. More over Onix can be priced over a Lakh than U-Va, so there is a market for both.

btw, don't underestimate U-Va. Its like a magic wand in China. With MJD & 3 yrs promise, looks to be a decent bet than Micra/ Figo/ Vista/ Liva for me. ACI has said "the best tuned MJD" and by default GM is king in ride quality.
