Is Honda Planning Brio based MPV EDIT: Its the Honda Mobilio

Recommended Posts

Honda has turned all its attention to the Brio platform, trying to boost volumes. 2013 seems to be the year of the Brio, with the sedan version coming to India next month and a MPV rumoured to be launched soon. Honda wants to launch more cars on the Brio platform, which will become the entry level vehicle offering from the Japanese company in their respective segments. The Brio is Honda’s entry level hatchback, while the Amaze is Honda’s entry level sedan. Now the Brio based MPV is all set to become Honda’s entry level MPV.

The BRIO is not a good looker. Its a gamble that Honda is playing by opting to introduce it in so many body shells.

Honda is going CHEAP

really stolen my words!

Dear Honda, Please maintain some standards!

Thank God.

Maruti's 800 is no longer available.

If not, who knows, we certainly would have had a SUV version of Maruti 800.

Please don't laugh. I am not joking.

When a Brio can have a sedan version and a SUV version, why not our good old 800 ?

Or, for that matter, why not a Nano SUV or an Alto SUV ?

In fact, Nano is soon going to come in sedan version as well :D

Guys..

Its Indian economy and other economies like India, forcing all automobile companies to do so.

How we expect a all new, totally differenct car with totally different engine and interiors?

Everything if it is developed from scratch, has cost associated with it.

And as a consumer we(Indians) are not ready to pay extra money for a word like quality.

After all Honda is also here to do bisuness, thus they are forced to go this way.

BTW why we asociate mass produced car with lack of quality?

IMHO this will have series stability issues ! A 7 seater on Brio platform :o

On the other hand they could go with the current trend and get a 5 seater mini SUV. They have the diesel engine to power it.

When they have a Jazz , how difficult it will be for them to make a Brio MPV

More importantly how much different in Size will it be to the Jazz.

I feel there is just space for one , Jazz christened as a Brio MPV or vice versa

@librankur

Brio and jazz are two completely different cars. Different chassis.

To cut short and long wheel base chassis is relitively easy but to extend and shorter wheel base chassis long would take some skills.

As MPV's are taller, there will be a shift in centre of gravity on brio chassis.

An MPVish Brio for 5 seater not a problem but a 7 seater would be asking too much. The finish product would highly unstable round the corner even for MPV standards.

Whenever a Car Manufacturer starts developing a new vehicle, it always gets down to a 'trade-off' between looks, driving dynamics, comfort, features and finally the price. While one can not give best of everything in one vehicle, they try to strike more than acceptable balance between all of these. So if Honda (with its given experience) is developing an MPV on Brio platform, it is more likely that it will take care of the basic issues like stability, handling etc. Looks are subjective but Honda will definitely give something acceptable by people in general..

Excerpts from worldrapid.com:

Brio MPV is said to be powered by the same engine as the sedan Amaze that means Brio MPV will be powered by both type of engine options that are 1.2 liter i-VTEC petrol & 1.5 liter i-DTEC diesel. It is expected to be priced between the ranges of Rs. 7.8 lakhs to 10 lakhs. It will have 7 seating capacity for Adults including the driver.

Indonesia will be the first country to have Honda Brio MPV but in Indian version of the MPV will be manufactured at its plant at Greater Noida or Tapukara (Bhiwadi, RJ) plant in 2014

From what is visible from the pics, this Mobilio scores good marks on styling front atleast giving neck to neck competition to Ertiga, while Enjoy might score more due to its interior space & versatility.

But where this MPV can make the difference will be its 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine generating 100PS power, which can seriously give it an edge in fully-laden performance over Ertiga, Enjoy & Nissan Evalia & can put into the Innova category.

Soon, its going to be clash of TITANS i.e HONDA vs TOYOTA.

This MPV has a good potential if they price it between Ertiga Diesel and Innova base model. It will eat into volumes of high-end Ertiga as well as some part of Innova (though it mainly sells at mid and top end).
