Spy Pics: Mahindra Quanto 4x4

Recommended Posts

Here are spy pics of the Mahindra Quanto 4x4. Looks like Mahindra plans to take on the upcoming Duster 4x4 which was also seen testing recently.

This test vehicle was spotted around the Pune bypass road and it was accompanied by a BS3 Mahindra Bolero. If you could not locate the give-away still, just gaze at the front wheel hubs (pic below) which read a pronounced ‘4WD‘ (4 wheel Drive).Another thing to note is was that this Quanto appeared to be a 5-seater and was devoid of the rearmost jump seats. Hence, there is no foot step at the back to climb up. There is a possibility of this Quanto carrying the bigger 4 cylinder motor from the Xylo as well.

With Quanto it makes no sense in my personal opinion.

When your primary product is struggling to find ground what use will be a higher iteration of the same.

With Duster its a different story , these people can do what ever they like.

LoL :D

I Agree ... a 4x4 Quanto is pointless.

But on a positive note, good to see the 4x4 Quanto wearing A/T Tires (Bridgestone Dueler A/T) as seen in the spy pic

Where as the regular Quantos are running around on Normal Bridgestone rubber (see pic for reference);

Here are fresh pics of the Quanto 4x4. According to the source this one is a 5 seater which I actually feel it should have been in the first place. Of course the 4x4 in all probabilities will be for the export market.

Quanto indeed is not good looking macho SUV...but it would be a VFM 4WD If we could compare it 5.7 for Base + 1 L.

We do not have any 4x4 as of now anywhere near to 10L and with Duster coming 4x4, it would also be beyond 10L...so may be M&M trying to explore an un tapped area in C-SUV segment.

Yeah...they definitely needs to redesign the body to make it more better looking design.

+1

Why fuming on Quanto X4, it should be a bliss to someone living in hill sides. Though THAR is better, it is not covered and it can't carry 5-7people with comfort as Quanto does.

Can anyone think of a good family vehicle in Hills for less than 10L, Can you?... You cant.

Where this vehicle is meant for , BRAZIL, its slated to be a very heavy vehicle for its class, also many internet reports say it will not qualify for the excise cut because of the bigger engine,as per Indian definition of compacts /sub 4M , so not that cheap afterall.

In my view a 4*4 should also look that part. This is a joke.

Whichever way you look at it , its only Mahindra vehicles that are its competitors so will not be doing anything extra for the company as those who buy this will have to either let go of a Thar , Bolero, Scorpio , the sweethearts of rural india , so does not make much economic sense if introduced in india.

Sure can thrill a few loners.

Its bigger sibling - the Xylo is a better option on a budget of upto 10 lacs (leaving the H9 variant). Same service and spares cost but a lot more stable owing to a longer wheelbase. And it can carry a lot more people in much better comfort as well.

^^

But Xylo is not a 4x4, where as Quanto is. If you go deep into hills, all you can see is Mahindra Major, Commandor,..etc. This one is way forward in Fit, Finish & Comfort.

I completely agree...the Xylos are still not as capable as Quanto 4x4 would be for hills.

Companies have to remember that, the next priority for an Indian after economy is looks. Thats why fortuner, XUV and Duster had huge waiting lists immediately after introduction. But as a company, mahindra must try all possible options to make the vehicle survive; the last of which will be 'discounts' before withdrawal. It has happenned to many brands in India.

Looks & Indians are mutually exclusive. Sometimes it works but most of the time it fails.

Swift was the first car bought for its looks, but became a hit only after DDiS

XUV was also the same, but look at its sales now, frequent niggles killed it.

Duster is not a big hit because of its looks alone, its GC, Bootspace, FE, Handling, Ride are the reason.

Indians prefers Reliability, FE, Practicality over Looks.

Take a look at the following examples,

Eon(looks)vs Alto(Practicality)

Beat(looks + FE) vs WagonR(Practicality)

If looks alone drives Indian Market,

The best looking Hatch so far is, SRV(sales?)

Best looking entry sedan, Aveo

Best looking sedan, Linea

Best looking SUV, Safari.................. Are any of these a market leader?

So, Quanto, slowly & steadily wins market owing to its superb practicality.

M&M may introduce 4x4 in the Quonto in India as well but the 4x4 system may be developed for the S101 Mini-SUV (most probably Korando based SUV).

Since Duster is already ready with their 4x4 , Ford Ecosport is on it's way to the showrooms and Nissan also seems to be ready with their Duster based SUV, M&M may want to introduce their S101 Mini SUV with all possible features duly tried and tested in real world environment.

Hahaha, A Quanto 4 X 4. A 4 X 4 market is even smaller as compared to the normal 2 wheel drive market, first they need to learn how to sell the Quanto in its current form before spending dough on these kind of upgrades. I think this is a failure right before the word Go.

First M&M should forget this as an SUV and price it sensibly. This UV was priced insanely close to Xylo, which is one of the main reason for its failure.

A 4x4 Quanto will become the default choice of hill area over Commander, Thar, Major, Garuda,...
