Toyota 2014 Vios: A prefect recipe for India

  1. 1. Does Toyota Vios sedan makes sense for India, to be established as City, Verna, Sunny rival ?

Half a decade back, what Toyota planned for India with ETIOS twins & what they got exactly 5-years later down the line, everybody knows it very well.

Toyota is one of the most Prestigious brand here, even more than Honda as per many but what ETIOS twins made us perceive is very much different & in much opposite way as it has to be.

Though ETIOS is stretching its segment band into the Verna, City territory via its price but its the Sunny sedan which has been successful in maing its marque against the Verna, City buyers list, while Toyota is still lacking the space as it's having nothing in Rs.8.5-12 lacs price range in City, Verna segment below Corolla segment, especially when the New City 2014 is around the corner in upcoming year.

It'll be great miss for a brand like Toyota, while seriously leaves their opportunity to establish them as mass player here.

In other International markets, where Toyota is having strong presence with products like Vios, while India is still lacking the space with Vios, Avanza(in MPV segment) like fine, VFM products in their portfolio.

See the new car in the pics, How much expensive it is, how the car is like ?

We Indians can pay any price for this car, until it's priced below Corolla Altis.

This car can fare extremely well in our market with Petrol & Diesel engine option. Yes, Diesel engine should have to be different from basic ETIOS shared 1.4 D4D one & has to be 1.6 litre atleast, later on which can be shared with Corolla Altis & Avanza MPV.

And now Toyota wants to rectify their mistake by fastening the project of developing next-gen ETIOS twins & now ETIOS sedan is preponed for 2014 launch. Best for them is to retain ETIOS till Dzire, AMAZE, Verito segment & to introduce Vios as Verna, City & Sunny rival.

A neat executive sedan. It can do good numbers for Toyota at a time when their sole bread and butter model in India - the Innova, is beginning to show its age.

Also, I feel Honda is still a much more premium brand as compared to Toyota in India. I find Honda products to be much more thoughtfully engineered and follow a better design language. The Toyota twins - the Etios and Liva, are well engineered cars but lack the looks which is the first thing that any Indian customer notices.

The fact is that any customer would want to be noticed while standing next to his car and Toyota fails miserably in that department. Verna is selling in large numbers majorly because of the way it looks - both inside and out.

Toyota needs to roll out a well thought product which is good in every department and better in some especially the looks.

This car should do well here. Its a good decently sized sedan. Toyota does make boring cars when compared to Honda but yes cant deny the fact that they are reliable and do everything right. The Etios twins are made to a price and while they have good engines etc, cost cutting is evident. On the other hand the Amaze feels premium.

Its been long since Toyota introduced a new model and the Vios could just be the choice IMO.

Though Vios will be good option if introduced in India but Toyota has very clearly mentioned that it will not introduce any new product in India in next 3 yrs.

Will focus only on strengthening current lineup.

Both the VIOS and YARIS have bombed in China , this is a restyled no frill model to drive its Chinese growth,Toyota is giving the typical DAQI stance to them this time .

It might have done well in US,EUROPE and Japan but China did not buy Toyotas concept that a car needs to be expensive just because it sports a TOYOTA logo., something similar to what happened to Honda in india,Honda who have now gone CHEAP with their offerings in India.

Check VIOS monthly sale charts for China it sold just close to 730 units.month on month

So essentially these are low cost , highly localized units offering by Toyota.

Hope Toyota understands DAQI in the indian context and gives us better looking cars than the current UGLY TWIN DUCKLINGS

The concept of feature list does not exist in india , it just has to be cheap ,we will buy anything , we are stupid in this respect .

I have the VIOS in Thailand for few days or a week, its too small to compete Honda City. Its slightly bigger to ETIOS in terms of size and not sure about engine. The car I had with me was a petrol and unfortunately did not impress for her feather weight character however for sure its cross my mind that the car should come in India below Corolla and above Etios segment.

Yea Toyota should make a comeback in Indian markets. People prefer toyota than other brands of cars. Vios looks great with a mean looking front grill. Indians always look for something new in every car its a + point for toyota because the car is attractive. This will be a success launch in INDIA

Came across some pics of the new Vios from the Bangkok International Motor Show. According to the source, Toyota will be bringing it to India next year.
