Maruti XA Alpha styling cues may be seen in the Jimny replacement. Will the Gypsy be reborn?

Recommended Posts

Here is picture posted on suzukifan.com of what could be the Jimny replacement in Japan. The render seems like ques have been taken from the Maruti XA Alpha concept. Maruti had showcased the XA Alpha at the 2012 Auto Expo. It is said that a shrter version of the XA Alpha chassis will be used for the new Jimny. If this is possible could it be that Maruti could do the same thing here in India and give the Gypsy a new life altogether? Here is the pic and attaching the xA Alpha concept pic below as well

To me, The XA-Aplha would be an important product for MSIL. They have K12 engine in petrol which is very alive and can be a good contender for XA-Aplha and 1.3 DDiS VGT would be good too (similar to Ertiga)

I think they have more or less ready in terms of power plants, pricing (can take slot of Gypsy) but all they need is good design.

With their own 0.8, 1.2 & 1.4 Diesel engines being ready soon in the near future(around mid-2014), i don't think that they should launch it with Fiat based 1.3 Diesel engine first & to make it short-lived as was Esteem D with 1.5 litre Peugeot TUD5 engine.

SUV wants heavy & powerful engine & can gulp up a bit of higher NVH also, what's better than a SUV to try first & to fine-tune it further for sedans & hatchback usage.

Lets see, what Maruti Suzuki is cooking for us ?

A new bodyshell with old engine(Old wine in New bottle) or New bodyshell with new engine(New wine in new bottle) !

Still i feel a face lifted Gypsy with 1.3L MJD will find many takers in India.MSIL should price it between 5-8 L considering the competetion from Ecosports. It is hard to digest the way MSIL is not able to realize the importance of Gypsy in Indian Market and its potential to sell it with Diesel Engine.

Recently I had a talk with my uncle who is in MSIL Gurgaon plant, he gave me a news that MSIL can showcase their new diesel engines in AutoExpo 2014 and right now they are testing these engines within company.

So this could add to the above topic and we may see a production version of XA-Aplha in AutoExpo 2014
