2013-Toyota-RAV4-India-launch-pics-2-600x450.jpg

een here are images of a 2013 Toyota RAV4 that has been spotted somewhere in the state of West Bengal! While you might feel that the sighting translates into Toyota Kirloskar Motors contemplating bringing the Camry-based SUV to India, the fact is that the manufacturer has no intentions of launching the RAV4 in our car market. In all probability, the 2013 Toyota RAV4 that you see in the pics is headed to Bhutan. Ditto for the Toyota Hilux pickup seen in the lead image.

Japanese auto giant Toyota unveiled the 2013 RAV4 at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show last year. The new 2013 RAV4 is already on sale in United States and has met with fair amount of success. The RAV4 borrows a fair bit from the Camry sedan and powering the 2013 RAV4 is a 2.5-liter four cylinder petrol engine that has a max power of 176bhp @6,000rpm and peak torque of 233Nm @4,100rpm. The motor comes mated to a five speed gearbox and the car benefits from 4WD system.

The RAV4′s four wheel drive system offers as many as three driving modes – Auto, Lock and Sport. In Auto, the power is sent to the front wheels, with rear wheels getting power only when sensors detect loss of traction at the rear. In Lock mode, power is distributed equally to both the front and the rear axles. However, this mode works only at speeds up to 40kmph. The Sport mode is for enhancing the car’s handling capabilities and sends power to rear wheels when cornering.

Toyota testing this car here means that it could possibly come here. The R&D center's are always instructed to test the cars in the worst conditions to prepare the vehicle for best. India (ofcourse is already a great place) for checking the off-roading skills of the vehicle, thus finger's crossed over the launch. but still hope that Toyota's engineer's setting up their minds for the Indian market after the huge success of Fortuner.

Talking of the vehicle, the SUV looks tough though, seems like a Pajero sport kind of 'coz of it's high stance to width ratio aspects. But, a few more pictures of the vehicle would be welcome in order to get a pure image of this Indian test 'mule'.

It is very unlikely that they will launch this vehicle in India, atleast not in next 3 to 4 years. Toyota is at present very happy selling Fortuner in India, and does not intend to increase its portfolio upward.

I think this will head to Bhutan or Nepal for sure same as the pick-ups parked besides it.

Also this looks like a base-model with unpainted bumpers. I am sure Toyota wont launch such version in India ever!

This is criminal , all these cars going to neighbouring countries from our shores without us having a go at them , worst part we are not even presented with the review of these .

On first look it felt like an EcoSport with its rear spare wheel removed, much like people have done in Delhi to disguise their old Safaris as the new Storme.

Toyota should look at these for Indian markets also , as this will give them additional revenue stream.

There was a thread here a few days back pointing to this lack of intent by Toyota for India , they seem to be happy with their Innova as for now.

While others are developing these small UVs for India Toyota chooses to not launch a ready product , only Money Matters could be a deterrent.
