    1.Keep Air Filter clean (or replace according to the condition of the filter). 2.Replace the Engine Oil at less than manufacturer's recommendation if the vehicle is used for frequent shorter distance traveling <5-10kms or frequent idling. 3.Check whether the brakes are dragging, Check the wheel bearings. 4.Also switch to another fuel station (Fill petrol from another reputed fuel station). 5.Don't ride clutch. Instead shift to lower gear. 6.Don't drive in lower gear for too long . 7.Don't shift (up shift or down shift) every now and then 8.Judge the traffic ahead and instead of banging on brakes at signals, just ease on acceleration, 9.Check tyre pressure every week and especially only when the tyres are cold. Keep 2-3 psi more than manufacturer's recommendation.
  2. Sorry I want to correct above post that You have to replace the Engine Oil at less than manufacturer's recommendation if the vehicle is used for frequent shorter distance traveling <5-10kms or frequent idling.
  3. Have Air Filter cleaned (or replace according to the condition of the filter), Replace the fuel filter, Check Engine Oil level -Top up if required(Replace if the vehicle is used for frequent shorter distance traveling <5-10kms or frequent idling), Check the Coolant level-Top up if required(Replace if more than 40,000kms old), Check whether the brakes are dragging, Check the wheel bearings. Also switch to another fuel station (Fill diesel from another reputed fuel station). Don't ride clutch. Instead shift to lower gear. Don't drive in lower gear for too long Don't shift (up shift or down shift) every now and then. Take judgement of traffic ahead and instead of banging on brakes at signals, just ease on acceleration. Check tyre pressure every week and especially only when the tyres are cold.. Keep 2-3 psi more than manufacturer's recommendation.
  4. Clean the carburettor and get it adjusted properly. Clean the spark plug and adjust the gap as per owner's manual. Also get the Air Filter Cleaned. Get these jobs done through your well-known mechanic, so that reliability won't be issue.
  5. For Timing Chain- What type of sound does the engine give out? Is it ticking (Ticking of clock) sound? If yes, then replace the Timing Chain For Disk Plate- You did not mention which disk plate is dishaped? For Chain Loose or Tight- Remove the rubber on chain inspection window. Move the chain up and down and measure that distance. It should be around 10-12mm. Get it adjusted if other than that. For Clutch Plate- Do you notice reduction in Pickup, Fuel Efficiency of your Avenger? Does the engine oil level drop at regular intervals? Check the engine oil level as follows= 1.Park the bike on center stand on a level ground. 2.Allow the engine to cool down. 3.Observe the oil level through the inspection window. If you don't notice drop in Pickup, Fuel Efficiency and also if the engine oil level remain at the maximum level, then don't replace Clutch Plates. If not satisfied, reply me. I will try to help you.
  6. You will have to keep overall diameter of the tyre as near to the stock size as possible to avoid false odometer readings.
  7. You have not metioned the stock tyre size. Anyways as per ACI Buyers Guide, the tyre size is 155/80R13. Means the tyre diameter will be 155*0.80+155*0.80+13*25.4=124+124+330.2=578.2mm You may upgrade to Getz GLX 175/65R14 =175*0.65+175*0.65+14*25.4=113.75+113.75+355.6=583.1mm But this tyre does not have thick sidewall, which can affect the ride comfort and the suspension will also worn out fast. The 165/70 may give you false odometer reading as the overall diameter of the tyre increases by 8mm.See below 165*0.70+165*0.70+14*25.4=115.5+115.5+355.6=586.1mm Now you decide what you want ride comfort or grip. If you put 175/65R14 tyres, you will have to drive slowly over rough roads and speed breakers.
  8. Diesel Prices in Solapur (Maharashtra)----> Hi-Speed Diesel--Bharat Petroleum's Premium Diesel=>Rs.39.40/Ltr. Xtra Mile Diesel--Indian Oil Corporation's Premium Diesel=>Rs.39.49/Ltr.
  9. Carry out the carburettor work (Cleaning and adjusting) first and if you did not notice any reduction in smoke, then carry out the compression ratio testing work.
  10. Hi friends, My brother-in-law has a Pulsar 180 DTSi (LCD Speedometer) purchased in Bangalore on 13-07-2007. He shifted from Bangalore to Pune. He transported all the furniture and bike to Pune by "Packers & Movers". He took NOC of Bike from Bangalore RTO but in the name of Solapur RTO(Maharashtra). Now he wants to get the bike re-registered at Solapur RTO. Is it necessary to take the bike physically at the Solapur RTO or only the papers can be taken to Solapur RTO and get the bike re-registered at the Salapur RTO? If traffic police catch while riding that bike and if I showed all the documents (Insurance Paper, Bangalore Registration Cetificate and NOC) to the traffic police, will I have to pay FINE (despite producing all the documents) as the bike is Bangalore registered and ridden in Pune?
  11. I forgot to mention another page of the bill. I will mention only the required details. No. Particulars Type Qty Rate Amount 1. Timing Belt Warranty 1 880.89 0.00 2.Gear Oil Paid 1(Ltr) 136.89 68.45 3. If the gear oil level was low (BY 30% OF CAPACITY) then I should have faced hard gear shifting problem but I did not. FRG would you please look into this matter also(I posted yesterday at 10:34pm regarding No Response from helpline@autocarindia.com. U suggested me to remind you on Monday for this matter).
  12. Hi friends, I discussed the problem of our Indigo XL Grand Dicor that it's clutch pedal is hard. Some 15 days ago the dealer called us and said that he would replace the Remote Locking system and some oil seals under warranty as earlier XLs faced problems of Remote Locking(the car would not start even if unlocked with remote.i.e., the Engine Immobiliser would not deactivate when unlocked with remote), and the alternator belt use to make noise after cold starting, and also engine oil used to leak,etc,etc. So we gave our car on 12-03-2008 for the above mentioned jobs and also some touch up was required for body and the doors also needed setting. The following is the bill which I got at the time of delivery. No. Description Type Amount 1. Belts Updation (As retrofitment replaced U/W) Warranty 0.00 2. Engine Seals Updation (As retrofitment replaced U/W) Warranty 0.00 3. R/R Flywheel Ring Gear (Flywheel Removed)(Only FOC 0.00 Clutch Release Bearing Replacing) 4. Crankshaft Front Seal Renew (As Leakage From O/S Warranty 0.00 Replaced U/W 5. Timing Belt Renew(Including Timing)(As oil sprayed Warranty 0.00 on belt it became soft &oily Replaced U/W) 6. Miscellaneous (Touch up) Paid 3,000.00 7. Clutch/Drive Plate Remove & install (Pr. Plate Warranty 0.00 Replaced U/W as Wear on Fingers) ================================================================= Subtotal: 3,000.00 Service Tax: 370.80 Adjustments: 0.20 Grand Total: 3,371.00 I got delivery on Monday evening that too without door setting. The clutch pedal hardness has reduced by only 50%. But I dont understand one thing he replaced the pressure plate under warranty, clutch release bearing and clutch cable both on chargeable basis and but still why is not the clutch pedal soft as new. If I am not wrong the wear of clutch plate and the hardness of clutch pedal has nothing to with one another. In fact he also advised me to replace the clutch plate because by his opinion the clutch plate will last for about 10000-12000kms henceforth, but I restricted him from replacing the clutch plate. I will ask the Manager of the dealer again about the hardness and let you know guys.
  13. Hi there, I have sent two mails to helpline@autocarindia.com regarding the service I got from the XASS but I haven't yet received even one reply from them (ACI). I would like to mention that I am a Subscriber of ACI but still I am not getting any feedback. What should I do FRG? Please tell me someone how should I open the eyes and ears of ACI so that they can read and hear my queries and help me getting JUSTICE. I mailed the following on 27-09-2007 at 06:50pm to helpline@autocarindia.com Hi there, I am a Subscriber of Autocar India . My Name is Sudeep Dilip Dantkale and Subscription Number is 8811. I purchased Pulsar 180-DTSi (with Digital Speedo, LCD) in February 2007. The gearbox makes very much NOISE while shifting the gears (inspite of depressing the clutch fully while shifting the gears). The NOISE is similar to that one which comes when shifted without depressing the clutch. But I depress the clutch fully every time but still the Noise comes. I went to the Bajaj Authorised Service Centre and showed them this 'problem'. But the Service Head at the Authorised Service Centre said this cannot be called as a problem. It is the 'Bike Characteristic' and this 'noise' comes for every bike in India. He lubricated and adjusted the chain, adjusted the clutch play but in vain. Not satisfied with his answer. I showed it to the local mechanic. He advised me to get the job done from Authorised Service Centre only. Then I test rode a new 180 DTSi (at the showroom) whose gearbox was silky smooth. Then I asked the dealer about my 'problem'. He also was unable to solve my problem. He told me that the Service Manager from Bajaj, Akurdi comes for a monthly visit. Then we will show him the problem. But one month has passed and I haven't got a reply from him. I also asked the Service Head why the noise comes only from my bike and not from Showroom Model. He replied the Bajaj Company used different parts for that bike (Showroom Model). I asked him if my bike and the bike I test rode is manufactured by the Same Company(Bajaj Auto Limited), at the Same Plant, by Same Process, why should only my bike make NOISE while shifting the gears and that another bike. He was unable to answer this question. I feel embarrassed when the gearbox makes Noise while shifting the gears in a crowd. Now all my hopes are on you. Can you please help me to get this problem solved at the earliest? Then I mailed the following on 14-03-2008 at 10:35pm to helpline@autocarindia.com Hi there, My Name is Sudeep Dilip Dantkale and my Autocar India Subscription Number is 8811. We own Tata Indigo LS(May2004) and Tata Indigo XL Dicor Grande (May2007). 1.The Indigo LS has covered 1,43,000+kms. The car suffered from Reverse Gear Shift Problem. Whenever I tried to engage the Reverse Gear, the gearbox refused to shift. I drove a little forward in 1st and again tried to shift. But again gearbox refused. I took the car to the TASS. The guy there said the clutch plate need to be replaced. I said I dont face problems while shifting forward gears, but reverse gear. He said after replacing clutch Assembly, this problem will get solved. He replaced the complete clutch assembly. The bill is mentioned below. Part Description Qty Rate Amount Clutch Assembly 1 1068.00 1068.00 Clutch Disc Assembly 1 2223.12 2223.12 Assembly Clutch Release Yoke 1 393.00 393.00 Clutch Release Bearing 1 607.00 607.00 Bush Upper 1 26.00 26.00 Bush Lower 1 25.40 25.40 DRG Oil Seal 2 106.78 213.56 D/S Inte.Sel Shifter Shaft 1 28.00 28.00 Assembly Clutch Cable 1 372.00 372.00 ======= Total Rs. 4956.08 ======== But after carrying this work, still I am facing the Reverse Gear Shift problem. On asking the supervisor, he does not give any response. I contacted the TATA Regional Manager, but still no feedback. 2. The Indigo XL Dicor has covered 34,778kms. The clutch pedal is hard to press.i.e, we have to apply very much pressure to press the pedal. Because of this hardness the vehicle stalls if clutch is released fast. But the engine does provide very good pickup once the clutch is released carefully. I showed the vehicle at the free checkup camp arranged by TASS. The guys there said the Pressure Plate will have to be replaced to make the clutch pedal soft. He also said the Clutch Plate also have to be replaced with the Pressure Plate as the Previous Clutch Plate must have worn to some extent which will not match the NEW Pressure Plate. Then I showed to another TASS. They said the clutch plate has worn out, but can go for another 10000-12000kms. But I dont think the clutch plate needs replacement because the car pulls very happily and I was able to touch the speed of 170+kmph that too without giving full throttle and the fuel efficiency is 20kmpl with AC. Then how the supervisors say clutch wore out and needs replacement. PLEASE HELP ME. =================================================== Can anyone convince ACI to help me getting the problems of our vehicles solved?
  14. The two (Indica and Nano) dont have same engine. The Indica has about 1.3-1.4 litre 4 cylinder engine and Nano has 624cc Two cylinder engine.
  15. In Autocar India Issue March 2008, it was mentioned that Ninjas and KTMs will be sold in Bajaj Probiking Showrooms.
  16. how can one expect better mileage from 220cc,20ps motorcycle. But as it is from Bajaj, one can expect mileage of around 35-40kmpl(I am not talking of metro cities, where mileage may be around 25-30 kmpl. BTW which one are you focussed on? Both bikes offer looks (save for front fairing of 220), similar performance.
  17. I changed entire assembly, FRG. The Bill read as follows=> Part Description Cost Rs. Cover Assembly-------------------------------1068=00 Clutch Disc Assembly Diesel Indigo------------2223=12 Assembly Clutch Release Yoke------------------393=00 Bearing Clutch Release-------------------------- 607=00 Bush Upper ON-----------------------------------26=00 Bush Lower----------------------------------------25=40 DRG Oil Seal (Quantity 2Nos)--------------------106=78 D/S Inte. Sel Shifter Shaft---------------------------28=00 Assembly Clutch Cable----------------------------372=00 ================================================= Total= 4956=08 So Can anyone PLEASE tell me why I am facing problem in shifting the Reverse Gear smoothly?
  18. What are the differences that are seen in performance(pickup), fuel efficiency, etc., after replacing the Clutch Plate Assembly(CPA). I got replaced the CPA of old Indigo replaced but didnt notice any difference in performance and fuel efficiency except the gear shifting improved "somewhat". But still I am not able to shift to Reverse Gear easily. The main culprit responsible for replacement of CPA is unable to shift to Reverse easily. Despite replacing CPA, I still have to play with the gearbox (move forward in 1st and then try to shift Reverse, this seldom helps me) more often. If I try to apply more pressure while shifting to Reverse, the gear makes such an IRRITATING NOISE that I feel Ashamed of myself.
  19. Hi friends, I am back with another query.Sorry Queries. Our Indigo XL Grand Dicor's clutch pedal is very hard to press.i.e, we have to apply very much pressure to press the pedal. because of this hardness the vehicle stalls every now and then if clutch is not released carefully.i.e., the pickup from rest is sluggish. But the engine does provide very good pickup once the clutch is released carefully. I showed the vehicle at the free checkup camp arranged by TASS. The guy there said the Pressure Plate (PP)will have to be replaced to make the clutch pedal soft. He also said the Clutch Plate also have to be replaced with the Pressure Plate as the Previous Clutch Plate must have worn to some extent which will not match the NEW Pressure Plate. 1. Is it compulsory to replace the clutch plate also if only Pressure Plate is to be replaced? 2. I think the cause of hard pedal is worn Clutch Release Bearing(CRB). Should I replace the a. CRB only or b. CRB and PP or c. Complete Clutch Assembly.i.e., CRB,PP, Clutch Disc, Clutch Cable? 3.How to identify if only CRB needs replacing or PP needs to be replaced?
