  1. Hi again, I will express in other words-- While shifting to reverse, I am able to pull the lever to extreme right, but am not able to pull backwards fully.i.e., the lever locks halfway while pulling back after pulling to extreme right. Hope all get this correct. 1.Is it necessary to overhaul the clutch if only gearbox is to be opened for repairs? 2.One of my friends is taking training in the TASS, told me that the gears are lubricated with grease when the car is being manufactured. He said maybe the reverse gear is lacking grease. So if the reverse gear is applied grease again, the reverse gear can be shifted with ease. 3. I dont to overhaul the clutch because the clutch is still in good condition as the car returns 15+ KMPL in city and also the pickup is good. PLEASE ANSWER MY ALL THREE QUERIES. Bye.
  2. I forgot to mention that the clutch plates are not yet replaced even once. Sudeep
  3. My queries=> 1.I own a Tata Indigo LS model May 2004 which has covered 1,42,549kms. The problem is that the reverse gear does not engage.i.e., I am not able to shift the car in the reverse gear. All other (forward gears) engage with my "little finger". But the reverse gear does not engage even with all fingers brought together. I tried moving the vehicle slightly forward to free up the teeth of the gearbox (which happens mostly in Indian cars). But still the problem persists. Even I checked oil level. There is sufficient oil (3.3 liters as recommended by TATA Motors). I use MAK spirol EP 90. A local mechanic advised me to use some TQ oil for gearbox. He said the TQ oil is specially for 5-speed gearbox. But I don't think it is the problem with gear oil as all forward gears engage even with my "little finger".Please tell me what should I do? 2.Second query is about our another Tata Indigo XL Grand Dicor model May 2007 which has covered 30,175kms. The alternator belt makes noise everytime the car is started when engine is cold and goes off after around 20-30 seconds. This noise started coming from 18,245kms. I replaced the belt twice - 1st at 18,245kms and 2nd at around 24,467kms. Still the noise comes when the engine is started when it is cold. Please tell me what is problem?
  4. Hi there, 1. Please tell me what lubricant should be used for Drive Chain of Pulsar 180DTSi. I tried 20W40 oil but it drips even if small amount is used. And because of this (dripping) the chain is lacking oil and hence makes irritating noise when rotated while the bike is stationary. Can I use grease for lubricating the chain, as it does not drip? Or should I use gear oil (SAE90) for lubricating the chain, as it somewhat thick (the chances of dripping will be reduced)? 2.Also the chain is collides with the chain cover when the 1st gear is engaged (while stationary) despite adjusting the chain. What is the problem? Please help.
  5. Rssh, I did not ask the full form of Kpa. I wanted to know what if the tyre pressure is kept more than the Maximum pressure printed on the side wall (in case of two wheelers) of a tyre. The Note on the side wall of Front tyre of Pulsar 180DTSi goes like this "Maximum Load 125Kgs at 225Kpa COLD" . I know that 225Kpa comes to about 32psi. What if I keep tyre pressure more than 32 psi in Front tyre of Pulsar. The Reason for asking this question is that I have noticed some cracks on the side wall (which have resulted from under inflation) despite of keeping 30 psi Front (The manual recommends 26 psi Front). How can the cracks result despite keeping more pressure than recommended by Bajaj Auto Limited.
  6. Hi there, U all must have seen that on each tyre (Tube-type or Tubeless) there is a note printed which goes somewhat like this "Maximum Load 218Kgs at Pressure 225Kpa". This is note printed on Pulsar 180's Rear tyre (100/90-17 MRF Zapper). Can anyone tell me in simple English what it means "225Kpa(that comes to about 32psi) for 218Kgs"? Does it mean that if I keep 35psi and travel a distance of 200-250Kms single ride (without pillion) will it (over pressure- Bajaj recommends to keep 32psi for riding with pillion) do any harm to 'Me' or 'My Pulsar' over that distance traveled? Also on our Indigo XL's JK tubeless tyres, there is note "Maximum Load of 675Kgs at 350Kpa (51psi). I keep 35psi front and 32psi rear (Recommended pressure by Tata Motors is 32 psi front and 29 psi rear). Please clear my doubt. Sudeep
  7. Hi guys, I want to make one thing clear. Only setting up Authorized Service Station does not make sense. Maintaining it properly is real game. One of TASS in my city (Solapur) does not possess spare parts in stock.i.e., if a part of our vehicle failed (may be due to manufacturing defect or due to wear and tear) and I went to them and ask for that part, I get following reply very often "The part is not readily available even at the company (here Tata ). We will contact you as soon as it is available." Even the Water pump, rubber mats, radiator, condenser, etc. (the list is too big to fit here) are not readily available at the TASS. One more thing I forgot to mention, the TASS does not have facility (Sorry the machine) to get the ALLOY Wheels Balanced and Aligned. Only steel rims can be aligned there (TASS). So I wonder why is it called ASS (Authorized Service Station) if they don't have the required tools to service the vehicle. More about it next time. Sudeep
  8. Hi, U can buy from the Swift from any city of any state. While buying tell the dealer that u want to register in so and so city. Also tell him after how many days are u going to get the vehicle registered with ur RTO. He himself will contact the RTO present in his city (i.e. the city from where u buy the car) and get a Temporary Number for the number of days u specified, from the RTO. He will handover the Temp Number papers to u with purchase papers of ur car. Then u can get the vehicle registered from ur choice of city. We bought our Tata Indigo from Sanya Motors, Aurangabad in May 2004 but got it registered in our home city, Solapur and that's because of temp number. Sudeep.
  9. Hi Pryas, In Autocar issue, I have read that Indica V2 Turbo comes featured with AirBags. So U can go ahead and buy it. U get decent economy of diesel + safety + space + good pickup (from turbo-diesel). Sudeep.
  10. Hi FRG, 1. U said that blip the throttle a little while down shifting the gears of Pulsar 180DTSi with LCD speedometer. But as far as I know gears should and must be shifted (may it be up shifting or down shifting) with throttle fully closed. Only the truck drivers shift by blipping the throttle a little ( may be because of the mechanism of the gearbox of the trucks). Also U did not answer my this question. 2.How much chain slackness should be kept and how to measure it (Should it be measured just by moving the chain up and down and measuring that distance) in case of Pulsar 180DTSi with LCD speedometer? One of my friend advised me to keep slackness of just 5 mm. The manual does not put light on this. Please help me FRG. Thanking U in advance, Sudeep.
  11. We own Brand Name: Tata Motors Model: Indigo XL Colour: Ivory White Purchased: May 2007 Current Odo: 19K+ Performance: Very Good from Dicor. Comfort: EXTRA Legroom for Rear as compared to normal Indigo Interiors: Beige Equipments(fitted by Tata itself): Nippon DVD player, Two LCD screens behind front seats' headrests, 6-way Power seat adjustment to & fro and height. Rear centre armrest, Rear AC vents, Alloy wheels, Electric Mirrors (I miss electric retract though) Fuel Efficiency: When I drove from Solapur to Pune and back, I got 20kmpl. Without AC. That too with some bad patches of road. Or else I expect 24-25kmpl. The gearshift is superb as compared to earlier Indigo. The muffler sounds good when driven hard from rest.
  12. Hi AAA, I am very Sorry to say but I am very disappointed with the forum members of Autocar India. None of them is able to solve my queries Satisfactorily. I OWN A PULSAR 180DTSi WITH LCD SPEEDOMETER. 1. My First query is related to the gearshifting noise. When I downshift the gears (Read it Carefully WHEN I DOWN SHIFT THE GEARS) the gearbox makes irritating noise (Tong) as if I am down shifting without depressing the clutch lever. Infact I depress the clutch lever fully every time I shift (be it up shift or down shift) the gears. The noise doesn't come while up shifting. I repeat THE NOISE DOESN'T COME WHILE UP SHIFTING. I got Chain and Clutch Adjusted But in vain. I showed to a mechanic at Authorized Service Center. He said the clutch plates are not getting fully released. So he said to check whether they are getting released fully or not. The mileage of my Pulsar is 4700kms. And I dont want to get the clutch mechanism opened so early (at 4700kms). But I didn't understand one thing. If the clutch plates are not getting fully released what that has to do with the noise that comes only when Down shifting and not when Up shifting. I showed to another Authorized Service Center. The head supervisor said " ALL TWO WHEELERS IN INDIA SUFFER FROM THE SAME PROBLEM OF NOISE COMING WHEN DOWN SHIFTING THE GEARS, LEAVE ALONE YOUR PULSAR". 2. How much chain slackness should be kept and how to measure it (Should it be measured just by moving the chain up and down and measuring that distance)? 3. How to find out the air-fuel ratio is correctly set or not? How much turns should the air-fuel ratio screw be turned anticlockwise after fully tightening the screw for proper combustion (i.e how to set the air-fuel ratio of 14:1)? 4. How to adjust the idle rpm. If the rpm is kept a little bit high (to avoid stalling the engine when it is cold) then the rpm rises too much when the engine has warmed up. If the rpm is kept a little bit low (since the rpm rises too much when the engine has warmed up) then the engine stalls when it is cold. I Didn't Expected Such Down market Service from A Reputed Brand Like Bajaj Auto Limited. So If Anyone Listening Out There, I Request PLEASE HELP ME Solving the Problems My Darling Is Suffering From. Bye. FuelRunGod2007-10-11 12:11:52
  13. You should try Maruti SX4. I don't whether it is equipped with Airbags.

  15. Hi there again, Can anyone please tell me== 1. How much chain slackness should be kept for Bajaj Pulsar 180DTSi (LCD Speedo) and how to measure it (Should it be measured just by moving the chain up and down and measuring that distance)? 2. How to find out the air-fuel ratio is correctly set or not? 16. Hi there, One of my friends owns a Discover 125 DTSi (with wire spoke wheels and Exhaustec) purchased in Feb 2005. It has done 13280kms. In the idle speed, some strange noise comes from the engine. Dont know if the noise comes while driving as the noise is not heard while the bike is in motion. But I am sure that noise comes from the engine and not from the silencer. The pickup has reduced drastically. The bike refuses to provide pickup even for single rider, leave alone with pillion. The average is about 59kmpl. The oil level is at maximum. He uses Castrol Power1. He replaces oil every 2000kms. He showed to the local mechanics. One said that the Timing Chain and the Rollers have to be replaced. Other guy said clutch plates are worn out. I know that a noise cannot be expressed in words. But I will try. The noise is somewhat like this "kir-kir-kir-kir-kir-kir". Is it necessary to replace the timing chain and rollers? Please Suggest suitable remedies. Thanks.
  17. Hi there, In my opinion, you should use fuel additives with the fuel. The additives clean the deposits accumulated in the engine thereby keeping the vehicle in top condition. This (using additives) also eliminates knocking which results from adulterated fuel. You can also ask your friends and colleagues about the fuel pumps they prefer to fill their vehicles. Bye.
  18. Hi there, What is this FRG? i.e What is full form FRG?
  19. Hi there again, I posted the Following On 2nd Oct2007 at 5:23pm but still not got the reply for the same. 21. Hi Sainaresh, Can you please explain your POST in simple English as I am not able to understand your sentences as they lack the proper grammar. "i think becoz of ur confusion you used to switch to second gear directly before you met the mechanic so the problem there.i think the problem is in gear box, so you change the gear box otherwise it may damage other components . byee..... if you did it ignore my message". Thanks. Bye.
