  1. Free things which all dealer give with the car: mud flaps, steering cover, carpets, perfume. Emphasis on genuine maruti accessories. Things to buy: - Sun film advised for A-star if you live in hot ares. - Body side molding is also good. - Gear lock Most of the time the genuine accessories will be of the best quality. The after market is for getting the cheaper version which will do the job but not have the aesthetics or refinement in finishing. For example, if you enquire the price of Xenos security system, it will be the same with dealer or aftermarket. I think a gear lock will make your car more secure than installing a hi-tech security system, or having a immobiliser jbond8302009-02-16 13:03:49
  2. Hey I doubt if there is a relationship between independent suspension and captain seats. Basically, having a common suspension on the rear is to provide a leveled ride, but its a bumpy ride (good for commercial use) Independent suspension will provide a cushy ride (good for passenger use). So captain seats will keep the rear passenger at one place.
  3. Fiat 1.3 MJD is so much in the news. Almost all manufacturers have fitted them in their cars, except manufacturers like Hyundai who have their own R&D. The hyundai engine has more displacement and would not be fair to compare value by value. But how about a relative comparison? Which is better engineered? The Hyundai's 1.5 crdi engine isnt lagging a lot. Its has the same Flat torque curve, good mileage and awesome torque and bhp. I would say its a tough fight between these two. How do you feel? Mileage figures city/highway: Hyundai Getz 1.5 crdi - 12.5/18 km/l Swift Vdi - 14/19 km/l Engine Hyundai Getz Prime 1.5 GVS CRDi Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi (Diesel) Engine Type/Model 1.5L 4-Cylinder DOHC Diesel 1.3L, DOHC, DDiS Diesel Displacement (cc) 1493 1248 Power (PS@rpm) 110@4000 75@4000 Torque (Nm@rpm) 235@1900 190@2000 Valve Mechanism DOHC DOHC Bore (mm) 75 69.6 Stroke (mm) 87 82 Compression Ratio 17.8 17.6 No of Cylinders (cylinder) 4 4 Cylinder Configuration In-line Inline Valves per Cylender (valve) 4 4 Ignition Type Engine Block Material Cast Iron Block Head Material Aluminium Alloy Fuel Type Diesel Diesel Fuel System CRDi Common rail multi injection @ 1400 bar jbond8302009-02-15 10:12:18
  4. power to weight ratio is a Good point. Lets compare three cars: Honda CRV petrol & Hyundai verna petrol & Fiat Palio Sport power to weight ratio: 0.104 & 0.089 & 0.094 hp/kg, respectively. Maximum speed: 156 & 192 & 168 km/h, respectively Hyundai verna having lesser power/weight ratio, still has the greater top speed. If there is no relationship between power/weight ratio and maximum speed, then, Is it possible to comment on top speed by knowing the torque, power/weight ratio and gear ratio? can anyone explain on this? jbond8302009-02-15 04:41:31
  5. power to weight ratio is a Good point. Lets compare three cars: Honda CRV petrol & Hyundai verna petrol & Fiat Palio Sport power to weight ratio: 0.104 & 0.089 & 0.094 hp/kg, respectively. Maximum speed: 156 & 192 & 168 km/h, respectively Hyundai verna having lesser power/weight ratio, still has the greater top speed. If there is no relationship between power/weight ratio and maximum speed, then how exactly do we identify which car has higher top speed?
  6. Hi Any good sites which give lots of information while comparing cars. having - clear presentation of the comparison data - reliable Data - More the spec details the better - More vehicles to compare the better Please share your valuable experiences
  7. So, powerful car is just a car with the extra torque? So, If maruti800 has better 0-100 timing than a SUV or a truck then the former is still powerful?
  8. first check if they have the stock of all the items I got Astar zxi, mudflaps are out of stock according to dealer
  9. How do we identify a powerful car? - Is it the Horse power or the Torque or the displacement? which defines a powerful car? - Does the Kerb weight of the vehicle also come into play? If I where to answer - Fiat palio 1.1 feels less powerful than the Maruti 800 - A-star(1 liter) feels more powerful than the U-VA(1.2 liter) May be I am too confusing here when I say less/more powerful. But as per me the sheer torque shows the power of the car. Others might have their own experiences. Considering Indian conditions. what base limit value of HP/Torque/Displacement should a car of certain Kerb weight should have? Ps: The definition of Horse power considers weight traveled w.r.t time. jbond8302009-02-12 07:08:06
  10. Now, thats what is called special edition. Way to go Chevy!!!!
  11. AUX is one good thing most HU manufacturers ignored in the past. The A-star has an AUX Did you ever wonder why AUX input was ignored. I thing, AUX will make the portable MP3 player take over the HU. May be someday cars come fitted with just the AUX i/p without the HU.
  12. toyota is very reliable car. Lives longer
  13. call it UK, not uttarkhand. Lets follow the bandwagon Om marutiaa Namahaa Om UKaaa Namahaa.... Om Astar Namahaa Om ARAI Namaha Om 19.5km/l Namaha Om Om Om!!!! 16. Hi Tvirus. How do you rate pioneer. There is no pioneer in your choice of components. Are they bad or not available in market?
  17. I know sony is not that good. But I saw Sony components for Rs3500 at dealer place. Very cheap
  18. Pioneer, alphine provide HU's which provide voice recogniton. I think its something similar to Blue & Me in Fiat. Correct me if I am wrng Check that out, it will be useful.
  19. I really don't know the technicalities, but I find my Elantra has very effective brake's, and it has saved my skin many a time. ABS actually takes off some of the driving stress. The braking is super smooth and gives a sturdy feel to the car. Airbags necessity... DO I need to say more on this subject? @Sgiit. Yes, ABS is deactivated at low speeds. Thats not going to cause any bad effects. Hey, ever wondered why none of the Indian car manufacturers have ABS, Airbags in any of their cars? jbond8302009-02-10 17:35:19
