  1. good day folks. I am confused on the honda's 2+2 year warranty schedule. the first 2 years is the mandatory warranty. however is the latter 2 an extended warranty or does it cover only few items ? i am asking this because i've completed 2 years of my city. since my running is really low (5k kms/year) , the showroom guys keep calling me evry 3 months for a service schedule which i know is not required because of my low running. however the showroom guys only want to make quick money. if i get the car serviced at 6months interval , will my 3/4th year warranty be voided ? please advise.
  2. with your lind of running (my estimate 20000kms /year ) , you should be looking only at a diesel option : laura or a jetta. the 1.9 L laura is definitely fun to drive. unless you love performance and dont mind shelling a couple of extra lakhs for the 2.0 L TDI . the jetta is plane jane being more expensive and with a smaller engine. the laura's the one to go for though not very convinced about the skoda A.S.S. the diesel magnum is also fun to drive though being a segment lower. autofreako2009-06-25 11:10:23
  3. i would suggest the i20. its a proven product now and with hyundai A.S.S. you should not go wrong. the 1.2L i20 and 1.4L GP have more or less the same performance ( the 1.2L GP needs a tad more power though) . the i20 is obviously the more fuel efficient of the two. the GP looks much cool and the i20 is a sedate looking car. the quality of plastics in i20 is somewhat better. features wise they are somewhat similar. i for one would not jump to buy a car thats just been launched . would rather wait for industry review and monthly sales chart to decide if its worth it !
  4. its mandatory as per the law to have atleast a 3rd party insurance ! driving with no insurance is surely an offence . you are lucky to evade the cops for two years !
  5. well the scenario is quite different in delhi. the cops are after your life to sight the puc certificate. here the validity is just 3 months. needless to add that it is deemed by the law.
  6. if i remember correctly , there was an article in the ACI about 2 months back where somebody's scorpio was stolen despite being fitted with an immobilizer. maybe they disconnected the car's ECU and fixed their's in its place. so i guess makes sense to fit one as an added safety measure. it costs nothing as compared to the lakhs you shell out on the cars. i for that matter have it on both my cars.
  7. the latest issue in delhi is the BRT. before where there used to be 4 lanes on one side , the same has been reduced to two. a couple of days back , a car broke down and the result : single lane. there was a kilometre long jam. the buses ply in the middle. so to facilitate people crossing at the bus stops , we have additional red lights ! and for the pedestrians , we have two lanes on the left ! only if the govt had done their homework well. instead of blindly aping some developed countries idea. the BRT at chirag delhi which used to be a 5 mins breeze now takes an average of 20/25 minutes. and they are still planning to go ahead with the rest of the project. god save delhi motorists !
  8. @ anijog : did'nt have a look under the rear bumper about what you are talking about. will surely have a look first thing tomorrow in the morning. wonder how i missed it ? @mehul-bhp : you seem to read my mind for my choice of car prefectly man ! yup , the space is similar to the altis. i myself was surprised to see this. honda has utilized the space extremely well keeping in mind the dimensions of the car. yeah the boot looks very small on the outside , but it is actually 508 L ! the customer service is really cool. It's been just over a month and i've received about 8-10 calls from HONDA inquiring about any issues/feedback/problems/service etc etc. Guess this is where this car manufacturers reigns supreme over the contemporaries !
  9. Thanks Tanmay , DD, CC and anijog for your thoughts. yes i agree the tyres look weedy and contemplating to change to bigger ones. am planning to upsize to 15" michelin 195 (stock ones michelin 175) and he's offering me 2400 per tyre for exchange.suggest me if is it the right price under exchange coz i do not have much knowledge about them. have decided on aura alloys ... look very voguish for 18ks. @anijog : could not get your point regarding the visibility of the spare tyre and the unfinished paint ?
  10. yuck man ... could'nt agree more with everyone above. it really is an eye sore !
  11. c'mon sparsh don't take the game away from the maruti. yes i10 has proved its worth. but let atleast the ritz be launched before we give conclusions . dont write off the ritz as of now ! it is sure going to be a worthy contender !
  12. no buddy ... no damage , just that it scraped through. on the first occasion , i was the only occupant and i thought that the car would glide over an average sized breaker , but it did not. on the 2nd occasion there were 5 occupants in the car . this time was a bit slow but still the bottom kissed the breaker. guess have to be more careful the next time. the sx4 ofcourse scores on this front thanks to the big 16" tyres.
  13. Hey guys , it had been a long time since I was yearning for a sedan. Was tired of driving my santro and zen the last couple of years , so finally thought of buying one this summer. I eventually purchased the SMT (Habanero Red) in delhi which cost me 8.56L on road. Glad I purchased it a week before the 30k+ price hike. have driven it close to 800kms in a month's time. got the first service done yesterday. THE BIG DILEMMA Choosing the right car ? Oh man this was probably the toughest part . I finally shortlisted the fiesta/sx4/linea. Since my annual running would have been close to 8-10K kms , so did'nt consider the diesel. There is'nt a single winner amongst the top 4 cars. Every car had its good and bad points. Considering my priorities , the ANHC suited me the most and picked it over the rest due to the following facts : Fiesta : Interior space least / Ford A.S.S. SX4 : Everything about the car is decent. Does'nt excel in any department. Linea : 1.4l least fun to drive , average performance , A.S.S. , Resale. EXTERIORS Wow , I just love them (sorry if I am a bit biased , but then I am smitten). The HONDA people have conceptualized the arrow shot form in this car. The front looks very cool and futuristic. The fog lamps (which they did not provide) would have surely enhanced the great looks. Looks are a matter of personal taste and some people did not like the rear , but to me personally they look cool. The side stance is also very elegant. INTERIORS The steering wheel first - very cool indeed . Its lifted straight from the civic and its very chunky to hold. The steering mounted controls add to the convenience. The speedometer looks very classy and is luminescent in the day. The real time mileage indicator helps you to judge your driving style. The A.C. is effective and cools the big cabin in not much time. (No A.C.C. - , cost cutting again ). There is also no C.D player , currently the music to my ears comes from the 12 fm channels and my usb. the 4 door mounted speakers serve the purpose very well. There are a lot of cubbyholes here and there to hold your knick knacks. Now to the quality - disappointing. The plastics feel very cheap for a car of this segment and are comparable to my santro. The quality of fabric is also nothing great to write about. However , the two tone dash and the sweeping curvature makes it look good. It is very spacious . The old city's wheelbase has been extended by a full 100 mm and the space liberated is thus evident. Also since the fuel tank is centrally mounted , it also liberates further space. ENGINE The 1.5L i-VTEC is a gem of an engine and needs to mention. Probably this is where i've paid half the money. Its the quickest in the segment and the drive is exhilirating. If you love perfromance , you will drool over this car. All the cars in this segment offer engines with an output ranging between 85-100 bhp. But Honda has taken the game much forward and offered a 118 bhp ! now thats fun. Infact there is not much of a difference between the D segment cars like the civic/altis which belt out 130/132 bhp respectively. I presume even the power to weight ratios will be almost comparable too. (though not sure on this one) MILEAGE you would expect that a car with this big an engine would be the least frugal , but this is the department where HONDA excels. The i-VTEC offers a good blend of performance and economy. Prior to the 1st service , it returned me 10.6 kms/l with 100%ac in the delhi bumper to bumper traffic. It should improve to 11-11.5 after the service. Cant ask for more than this i guess ! WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE CAR Cool exteriors Big interior space Performance Good FE WHAT I HATE ABOUT THE CAR Poor quality of plastics/fabric trim Missing equipment - ACC / Alloys / Fog Lamps / CD Player Poor G.C. ( Have scraped speedbreakers twice) VERDICT Inspite of all the shortcomings and being the least VFM , I still picked up this baby. The hassle free maintenace , the performance oriented i-VTEC engine , big interiors and good resale tilted my decision in the favour of the ANHC. Will post the pics soon.

    i10 or astar

the i10 is surely a better car than the a-star. the main drawback of the a-star is that it is cramped as compared to the i10 as it is based on the same alto platform. makes sense to wait for the ritz which should be launched soon. the base version should start close to 4L.
  15. i agree with speed's comments. although the i10 kappa is a great car , it prudent to wait for some time until ritz launch and make a comparison between the two. thw ritz launch is just round the corner. the pricing should be more or less similar with both having 1.2L engines onboard !
  16. agree that button is having the best drive. but not barrichello. his dream run was on when he was MSC's team mate in the mighty ferraris !
  17. first you need to decide how much will be your annual running . If not more than 15k kms , diesel may not make the best sense for you. Yes, travelling less definitely matters in buying a diesel. Not to forget you'll be spending more on maintenance for the diesel.
  18. i doubt if the base variant starts at 3.5L. the recently launched a-star with a smaller 1.0L starts at 3.5 in delhi. i expect the 1.2L splash to be priced just shy of the 1.3L swift ... the base variant lxi starting at 4L. thats my opinion ... could be wrong too !
  19. boy o boy ... what exciting results. tomorrow will be a cracker of race ! the stars today were the red bulls ... vettel in particular who had just a single dash in the q2 and the q3 and still managed a pole. the red bulls are obviously running lighter fuel loads than the brawns. alonso too needs to be applauded for his efforts knowing that the renos are'nt that competitive until now this season. ferrari drivers have proved again can only win if they have the best cars . i's still be putting my money on the brawn cars. cant wait till tomorrow afternoon !
  20. the aveo is an average car ... nothing great about it. Infact i would term it as unexciting. it is selling very low numbers thanks to better cars around. i think its due for a facelift too . IMO i20 is surely a better bet. Its just been launched and i guess you should go in for the latest stuff. i20 interiors and space is better than the aveo. maintenance wise too hyundai is goiong to be wallet friendly. i would recommend you the i20. its cool.
  21. if you agree that you are paying for the design, engine, name and space ... what else comes under the "rest" ? guess you are talking about the poor quality of interiors ? The Fiat Liena is far far ahead when compared on a whole. i hope you have actually "driven" both the cars before making the statement ! Even without driving these cars just compare them head to head visually will give you the answer. The Devil lies in the details my man!! forget the devil and the details ! my question still stands ! have you driven both the cars before making the statement ? i think no ... so drive both the cars and try to have "an opinion of yours" .
