  1. Dear Friends

I am need of a 100 CC bike very urgently for spare usage. The long term reliability is the only concern for me. I am not worried about the mileage, ride comfort etc.

Actually i am planning this bike for my native town where the number of kms the bike will clock is very low. Therefore i have least concerns about the mileage.

The most important concern what i have is the reliability. I am seeing from a long term precpective.., say for 15 years or so. Same time i would like to restrict my budget to the least possible limit.

The have zeroed on the following bikes. Kindly request you people to help me taking a good decision on the same.

Hero speldour+ - Tested and proven - 53.5K on road approx- However the same is out of my budget- Also hearing few complaints in terms of quality about Hero after Honda's separation. But its a bit hard to beleive because, Hero has not made any changes to the tried and tested engine which it was selling for decades. Really don't know what has gone wrong. Please comment.

Bajaj Platina- Apparently the cheapest bike. 44K on road is the cost. I am very pessimistic about Bajaj's reliability. Even if proven reliable, really don't know whether i would be getting spares down the line, say about 10 years. Please comment.

Mahindra Pantero- Seems to be interesting. Very reasonably priced. Just 43K on road. Mahindra self developed 106 CC engine seems to be a rising star. Really do not know the reliability and future state of the bike. Please comment.

Other suggestion are welcome. But i would like to strictly keep the budget within 45-48K. Max to max 50K.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi friends I am in need of a basic bike immediately . The following are my requirements, please suggest good options .

1)My usage will be for a year's time here in Bangalore and later I will take the bike to my native . So the most important consideration is the life of the bike . It should last at least for another 15 years without big mechanical issues. However for the next 15 years it may cover very less mileage. It is just for spare usage whenever we visit our native . Ultimately I need to use the bike once in 3 months and therefore there should not be any issues even when not used for 3-4 months.

2)It is least probable that I may resell the bike after a year's usage in Bangalore itself instead of taking it to my native as mentioned earlier . Just in case if I plan to resell I shouldn't lose a lot of money on resale .

3)I am a heavy guy so the bike should at least look slightly big .

    My short listings are .

All hero bikes looked very much out dated and ugly.

    CB Twister- Good to go.

Discover 100T and 125 ST - Ok but really don't trust the bajaj bikes in terms if reliability.

Tvs Phoenix- No idea- people please share your views.

Budget is not an issue but i would like to keep it in the bracket of 60-65k and other options are also a welcome . Please suggest .

  3. Just some insights about the new pulsar ns 200.

I had a second round of TD of Pulsar NS 200 today after the first TD didn't bring any big smile and I am really disappointed again. I can't wait for TBTS 350, its just too long and i am in urgent requirement of a bike.

This is no offence to anyone who owns Pulsar NS 200, its just my views purely personal.

I really like the looks except the rear which is really ackward and simply dis-proportionate and on same lines with PS 135. I felt the engine to be good but not really very much refined as such but to be true its league ahead of the old pulsars. The sixth gear is just a waste in the city traffic and doesn't have much to do in terms of more power or so, may be its helpful on open highway roads. I had a lot of false neutrals and difficulty in changing gears. Pillion seat comfort is too bad and i had a lot of complaints from the pillion.

More importantly the vibration levels are too high. I experienced the vibes getting transmitted to my spine and the pillion rider had more vibes than the rider. I personally feel this is a serious drawback for those who claim this to be a touring bike.

The seating position was good but believe me, the sudden braking had bad effects on my abdomen. Hope you guys understand.. The tank is too high from the seating level which is a serious concern and surprisingly no one has reported the same.

The suspension was quiet ok and definitly not bad i felt it to be a bit hard. The rear disc is simply a hype but the front disc was remarkable and good. Overall equipment is good and quiet natural that Bajaj normally does well on that. With regard to the triple spark plug i don't see any big requirement and just its an additional cost when sparks fail. That all i have to say about it and also tuning will be a great issue.

Overall i didn't feel anything remarkable or jaw dropping aspect about NS 200. But indeed its a value package. But some people were just comparing it with TBTS 350 in terms of power etc which i beg to differ and again its individual perception. With regards to the color, Yellow looks good and better than other ones.

1)My usage will be for a year's time here in Bangalore and later I will take the bike to my native . So the most important consideration is the life of the bike . It should last at least for another 15 years without big mechanical issues. However for the next 15 years it may not even cover 1500-2000 kms . It is just for spare usage whenever we visit our native . Ultimately I need to use the bike once in 3 months and therefore there should not be any issues after a start the bike even after 3-4 months .For your information my dad's cd100ss 1993 model was fine for these many years . Just now it failed .

All hero bikes looked very much out dated and ugly .I finally zeroed towards Twister and discover 100T . My budget is close to 60-62k and other options are also a welcome . Please suggest .

  5. The doesn't look girlish and its only the statement of Yamaha makes it look girlish. My personal opinion is any bike manufacturer for that matter should never categorize a model with any gender specific, which will in some cases turn away the prospective customers assuming that the bike belongs to the opposite sex.

I had test driven Ray and my feel that Yamaha has done a good job and as some one said only the pink color will not hold good for guys and rest things are fine. ALL IS WELL.

  6. A couple of days back, I had started my CD 100 SS, 1993 model which is very rarely used at my native place . I was pretty happy that the bike started after 2 long years of continuous non usage . I was happy that the bike started and I used it for one full day without any issues . The second day the issue started and the bike never started . The kicker went down without any force , I initially thought it should be a clutch plate problem but I could never start the bike . Later consulted a mechanic who tried all possible things by checking spark plug, cleaning carburetor, jet etc . But nothing happened and finally he declared the compressor had failed and also the piston rings should be replaced . Even though the bike is of 1993 model but still I think maximum only 50k kms should be the odo reading .

Guy's please advice me whether it would be worth doing this job for my old bike or simply go for a new bike keeping the fact in mind that very rarely the bike will be used and an old bike may give more troubles .

  7. Normally automatic cars aren't for spirited driving. It is only in manual shifts you can revv the engine and turn it to your style. I do not know much about i20 auto but i have driven extensively my friend's i20 asta. The car isn't that peppy and it is normally suited for sedate driving only. rki20072012-01-08 11:16:32

  8. Buying a palio is good idea if you are enthusiast. But be ready for hunting spares and good service center. Some thing or the other normally goes wrong in old palios. Alto K10 is a very practical car. It accepts all the abuses and not much of care is required. It is indeed superior to the old Alto.Nice and peppy engine. But still you have to live with the pale interiors. It is very very comfortable for city use. I think you have made a wise decision. But remember that normally what i have seen in the resale market is that the car suffers more depreciation if sold immediately after the first year. I do not understand the reason for the same but still in reality atleast in Bangalore it happens. You can expect around 15-20% drop in the value after first year. May be since it is an Alto, it may have good resale value. Just google around and find out.

  9. Is there any point is believing these Crash test norms because the Nano is itself passed the crash test norms. I have started not to trust these.

I personally feel the Airbags and ABS should be standard in all the cars sold in India rather than making it a luxury only for the top end models.Indian car buyers are always fooled by these Koreans and Japanese.

  10. Basically this never happens in reality. A guy who is earning 20k a month cannot buy a 10L lacs and if he wants also' date=' there will be no bank which will give him loan. Majority it does not happen and off course senseless people who envy others do everything beyond their ability and not only car.

    [/quote']

    @Rki:
You are right at your place, but what I have mentioned happens in reality and yes it happens with more than 50% car users on the road.Yes a person earning 20k cannot buy a 10 lacs car from loan, but loan is not done on salary only, people mostly get it on assets,am I right?
The only problem is that people with a salary of 30k buys a car and get an installment of 10k over their head and then they sell the car after two to three years because their Honda Jazz on which they have too the 5 lacs loan for 5 years jumps their pocket in installments.

Actually my point is that, any person 50k per month can easily maintain and run a Safari, but is it necessary to push yourself to your limits?
I am sure you may have many in your company who owns a Honda City,Safari,Scorpio at just 50k salary but what they do is no savings at all and in case of any big repair, either their cars run without the repair done or they are returned back from service center after a month or the owner takes a financial exam of his/her friends.

You say that people make  loan on assets and buy a car is it?. How is that possible. Assume a property worth is 50L and the margin funding is 75%, then you may get a loan of 37.5L and assume you buy a car for Rs. 10L, then what will do you with the balance . Will you pay interest for the unused money or deposit it in a FD and earn low interest and pay more interest?

Or assume even though you are eligible for 37.5L, will you say to the banker that Sir i want to buy a car and i just require 10L.

An housing loan taken, that is loan on assets in your launguage has lot of tax implication. The deduction for having paid interest on housing loan is available with lot of condition u/s. 24(B) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and one of the main condition is that the loan taken is to be utilised for acquisition/construction of house and not purchase of car.

A very hypothetical situation like pledging the jewellery and purchase of car can be imagined in your context.

  11. First car means say no to Ford and Skoda. Maruti and Hyundai are the way to go with new cars. New Swift is what you should wait for. Infact I think showrooms have started taking bookings.

However go for this only if you plan on going for the top variant' date=' as I expect new Swift to be costlier than the outgoing model.

If you are not going for the top model, go for Ritz. Having driven it just today, I can say that it is car with a much better view of the road than Swift, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a hatch in that price range.
    [/quote']

What idea is that to stick to Maruthi/Hyundai for a starter. So if it is your second car, you are ready for other manufacturers is it?  The automobile industry is growing leaps and bounds and still we are priasing the Maruthi/Hyundai. Even though it is important that after sales and service is important for a car, i don't think it is a deal breaker.

@ Balasubramaniam- I suggest you to go with Figo. It is really a good car. Eventhough it lacks power, it is good buy . It is VFM and it is fantastic to drive around the city since there is no turbo lag.

New swift is also worth waiting. But i think the wait would be really very long. First the car has to be launched and the waiting period for the car in another heck. If that is ok then good to wait.

Also you can think over Ritz Vdi. Again the fiat MJD is a performer in city and highway too.If you are ok with the shape of Ritz , then move ahead.

Please do consider the new Beat diesel which will be launched shortly. Its a 3 pot with 1 ltr baby boy running under the hood which is the sibling of 1.3 mjd. Do try that once it is launched. It should be lot cheaper than other diesel cars.

  12. @ Bala--Gladiator is stopped not sold by Yamaha.

@Vizzay- If you are interested in Yamaha then as far as the

Basic bikes- YBR 110, YBR 125, SS125 can be seen

If interested in 150 cc bikes then check out- SZ, SZ- X, SZ-R

Also FZ ranges if your budget suits.

I do not recommend Bajaj pulsar if your idea to retain the bikes for 5+ years and 50k + kms.

Also check out the HH glamour PGM F-1, Super splendour, Passion pro. They are long lasting and quality products. Even though HH bike engine technologies are outdated, they are reliable. The PG M F1 of Glamour is good, just try it out.

If interested in Honda then check out CB twister/shine/unicorn/Dazzler.They are value for money bikes with silent engines and are fuel efficient too.

  13. I personally feel that hand geared scooters may not succeed in today's market. People may be reluctant and even Honda with their eterno did not succeed. And the age old Hamara Bajaj couldn't survive. The gearless scooter is one segment which requires more competetion and that is where the Honda's strategy succeeded and captured the market. Also the the commuter bike segment is already filled with too many options and are proved reliable. At this point of time a new luanch in that segment may not tap the market. What LML can do is to introduce new gearless scooters whose segment has great future.

  14. Doing stunts is abnormal?

USA and Europe are abnormal people just because they have legalized stunting.

    Ridiculous.

Do you mean to say Stunts are normal sir. Please define normality. These many days i had a feeling that driving was only normal and not stunts. Oopssmiley19.gif

Legality is not the say we are talking about normality.

When two wheels are given for a bike, why do you to drive on one wheel yaar. Or when perfect seating position is given why do you want to stand and drive.
