  1. 1. Is it suitable for my bike?

    Ans. Yes, the K&N R-1100 air filter can be used in any motorcycle. You can also use the K&N RC-1060 for engines upto 160cc.

    2. What is jetting ? Is it necessary? What about Fuel Injected bikes?

    Ans. Jetting is the process of correcting the air-fuel mixture entering the engine. Since the K&N air filters will allow more air through them compared to a stock (company fitted) air filter, slightly more fuel needs to be added as well to maintain correct air-fuel ratio at all times. Jetting is to be carried out only by a experienced tuner, not a mechanic-next-door.

    An air-fuel mixture with excess air will cause a 'lean' condition leading to excessive overheating of the engine and serious damage. Hence jetting is absolutely essential to prevent engine damage.

    Jetting is not required on a fuel injected bike. The bikes ECU automatically adjusts the air-fuel ratio to compensate for increase in the amount of air.

    3. How much power can I gain? What is the effect on mileage?

    Ans. An engine wastes lesser power sucking in air through the stock filter compared to a free flow K&N air filter. Hence efficiency improves & power is up by 10-15% depending on the engine & the bike's condition as a whole. So, power on a 20HP bike will jump to 22-24HP after fitting the K&N & Jetting.

    Fuel efficiency will improve a bit after fitting the K&N. Excessive speeding & braking burns more fuel & the K&N filter is then blamed for it: not fair, not true!!

    4. How do I get my hands on a K&N Filter if I don't live in Mumbai? Who will install it & do the jetting?

    I hav a TVS Apache RTR 160 Fi. I am very much intrested on installing K&N air filter on my bike, but i want some more information on how to install the air filter model RC-1060 in my bike. Since my bike is Fuel injected, the fuel injection system has an ECU which monitors the air/fuel mixture. if i directly install the K&N air filter in my bike, will it be okay? , or will i have to make any more modifications to the system. PLEASE reply A.S.A.P.

    Recently i have been riding my bike from nasik to pune very often, but at very high speeds of about 90-100 Kmph. i am not calculating the mileage dat my bike is returning me, but found it out that it mite be in d range of higher 30s or say around 40kmpl on highways. i am not concerned much about this decrease in fuel efficiency of my bike, but my only grouse is d problem of damage the engine might face in future.

    so pls do tell me the damage that the engine may face in future as also pls mention the solution for those problems. Also i have kept my bike in mint condition till now by giving it proper servicing acc to the servicing schedule.

    Pls do reply as soon as possbl.

  5. Well FRG i am not able to load the pics from the imageshack. The site is taking too long for uploading pics. I kept the uploading going on for 3 hrs but in vain. The pics are not being uploaded. It gives message that uploading miage, but i cant see any progress.

     Please give me step by step details of how to insert pics. Please.

  6. Hey guys i recently got my Apache 160 Fi on 14-10-09. It is a yellow colored bike.smiley17.gif. I like the racy black stripes on it. But i am displeased with the TVS company as it provides only 3 colors(orange, yellow and grey) for the fuel injected version unlike the red and black which are available on the carburettor version. smiley7.gif.

    Well speaking about the design of this bike, i like it very much. It looks fast from every angle. The tank scoops too are racy and unique. The speedometer is digital and comes with blue backlit tachometer. Clip on handle bars are great for every person, of every size. Its so comfortable that i find the apache more convenient than the pulsar 150. Also the sporty seating arrangement on this bike is not at all stressful.

    Fire the starter and  the 160 cc fuel injected engine rumbles to life. The high frequency sound note from the exhausts is great. This rev-happy engine produces 15.7 bhp @ 8500 RPM. Make the engine spin fast and vibrations (which are a part of the apache) will set in through the footpegs and the handlebar @ 5K rpm. This vib continue to last till 5500 rpm`s and then again the engine is smooth right uptill 12K. This Apache gives out the max power at high rpm`s. still  it isnt that bad around the city.

    In the city the Apache handles well. Thanks to its low tyres, 17" and 18" at the

    front and the rear. The riding is so good that you can flick this bike in and around traffic easily. Also this bike is very good for STREET FIGHTINGsmiley2.gif.

    Also i found a good thing about the rear grab rail. The grab rail can double up as a hook for hanging carry bags, as it is splitted up in the middle.

    Also the stopping power from the ROTO PETAL DISCS is just awesome.

    The front disc bites at you if you are too hard with it. Fortunately the rear is not as fierceful as the front one. Though it needs a gettin used to but it will not bite you hard as the front brakes.

    So far so good. What the RTR lacks in is GRIP. The level of grip from the Apache is not good. They are so poor at grip that you need to be in limits while cornering as you might fall out. Also they shreik out their protest in slightest hint of hard breaking.

    Well leaving all these flaws the bike performs good.

    Also i have found some problems in my Apache. They are as follows:-

    1) When i go over bumps i hear a THUD from the front. I cant exactly make it out from where is it coming, but it comes from the front.

    2) While riding the bike sometimes at speeds of around 40 i saw the tachoemeter needle rising upto 12K even when i kept the engine rpm @ 4K.

    This happened some 3-4 times till today from the day when i brought this bike.

    3) When i start breaking from speeds of around 40, i hear a small 'BANG' from the silencer. Even this too happened some 3-4 times only from the day it is brought.

    4) I hear some small squeaks from the front discs at very low speeds.

    I reported the dealer about this problems, but the guys in there say that the problems are small and negligible and will be fixed in my next scheduled service.

    Can anyone tell me are the problems really negligible?

    Leaving all these flaws the Apache performs fantastic.

    Now all the guys in here who own a Apache, pls post ur views with ur machines in here.

    Well guys, i have taken d YELLOW coloured apache. I know

    that many ppl will not like the jazzy yellow colour, But i had no option,

    as TVS provides only 3 colours for the APACHE 160 Fismiley19.gif. the colours are YELLOW, ORANGE, DULL GREY. i have

    decided on yellow, because  the orange colour looks as if i am from SHIV

    SENA . The other is the dull grey which

    has no shine. Thus due to all such reasons i took the yellow colour.

      Well where performance is concerned, this apache leaves no chance for

    other bikes to overtake it. Also for the money pinchers like me, the FUEL

    INJECTION provides best average of 55kmpl in the city and 60kmpl out on the

    highway. Well i have rode this apache very much. So much that i  clocked

    500 km just within six days of purchasesmiley2.gif.

     Also i like the macho air scoops this apache has. The handling in Nasik city (where i live)

    is just fantastic. I tried out Pulsar 150 (new) which belongs to one

    of   my friend, but i find myself more comfortable  on the


    So far so good. But when it comes to the part of vibrations, the apache makes

    me go crazy. At high RPM`s like around 5k, vibrations sets in through the foot

    rests and the handle barssmiley19.gif. But once past 5.5K, the apache (only the fuel

    injected version) goes on  smoothly. Also the tyres on the stock apache

    are not good. They shreik out their protest at the slightest hint of hard

    breaking. But still they are good for burnoutssmiley2.gif .

    But who cares for these flaws in the apache when it provides you a healthy 15.7

    bhp.@ 8500 rpm.

  8. hey thnks sudeepd about your information. but pls can you tell me about how to use those additives, like the dealer told me that use 1 bottle for every 10,000 kms. is it true that 1 bottle will last for such a great span. also the dealer told me that i can use a small pouch of that Iftex which costs a mere 5 rs, to use it with 2 litres of petrol. I used it but i am not finding any much changes in my apache. can u tell me is it working or i am using it in wrong way?

  9. Hey guys i recently brought my apache 160 with fuel injection. It is back from its first servicing after 500kms.I have a problem about how to give a long life to the engine. PLS help me out. It is mentioned in my owners manual  that if i use fuel additives, i will get good mileage along with good engine, but they have not mentioned which fuel additives, which brand and so on.

          PLS help me out as to what should i use for my apache 160 fi. also pls guide me out about good maintenance of this bike.

  11. yeah i do agree with u about pulsar 180...

    but d prob. in dat bike is dat it dosent delivers good average......

    also ive heard dat d 180 engine needs 2 b looked after a lot........

    and even though we dont get d power of d bike after 2-3 years even if maintained neatly........

    i actually wanna buy 150cc class bike but m a bit confused between new pulsar 150cc, Apache 160 Fi and Yamaha FZ.

    Guys please help me out which 1 should i choose.

    my concerns are great power, city friendly handling, good economy(related with

    services too).

    My height is  5ft 11inch.

    Please help me out guys............

    Also ive heard that the new pulsar150 is slightly tuned up. Is it true?
