  1. Can someone answer a couple of questions that I am not getting a definative answer for 1) What is the best rim width to chose that will accommodate both my existing (165) and future (likely 185) wide R14 tires? From the research I have done, 165 can be fitted on 4.5"to 6" and 185 on 5" to 6.5". If so, are there any disadvantages to fitting the 165 on a 5.5" rim or a 185 on a 5" rim? This is important because which wheel I chose really depends on this 2) What is the stock offset for the Swift or the range for it? This is important because the 5" rim has a 45mm inset and the 5.5" ones have 50mm and 55mm Irrespective of the design of the alloy, I need it to be mechanically sound, so I really need the get an answer to these questions Ameyam
  2. Neeraj, I think the calculator is saying that 175/70 is not suitable as the circumference difference is greater than 2%. Try 175/75. That works Ameyam
  3. After recently upgrading the 4" speakers in my Wagon R, i am ending up selling the vehicle. I have the original speakers so i can transfer these 4" polk speakers to my new car. But the new car has a 6" cutout. The obvious thing is to install an adapter plate but i cant find one anywhere online. So is this actually possible & is there a link which i can go to? Ameyam
  4. I booked a Vxi swift glistening gray color. One thing is raking my brain though- i booked a non-ABS version because of cost and because the sensor often breaks in city while going through pot holes i am told. But now people are also saying the the ABS version has better brake bite. The TD car was a zxi with ABS and the brakes were phenomenal. Should i go back & change over to an ABS model. The difference is about 3 loan installments and worth it if the non-ABS cars have weak brakes Ameyam
  5. After a lot of (and lot of and still more lot of) thinking and reading through the catalogs I noticed a few points 1) The Swift is the better driver's car where as the cheaper Ritz is VFM 2) Though heavier, the Swift absorbs the road better than the Ritz 3) Both Zxi versions are ruled out. Fully loaded but fully expensive 4) The Swift is more expensive but has a better return on investment at the time of resale. Thats also the reason to come off the Brio 5) There is a major concern that the Ritz isint selling and the ones that are available may be ex-stock manufactured in 2013. Wouldnt this create an issue with depreciation in resale? 5) The only difference between the LXI and VXI versions is the manual v/s power windows. I would rather raise \ lower the windows manually instead of spending the additional 30+k for that 6) All versions of the Ritz except the Zxi have manually adjusted ORVMs. The Swift LXI model has manually adjusted mirrors whereas the VXI has electrically adjusted ones. Again, I would rather adjust the mirrors manually asI do in my current car. That in effect levels the field for the Ritz VXI v/s Swift LXI models as the price difference is about 30K and the Swift is the better car. Another point of note is that if the mirror is damaged by another vehicle in traffic, replacing a electrically adjusted mirror is more expensive than the manual ones. I just did one on my Waggie and it cost me Rs 500 including installation for an original mirror 6) Neither version comes with a music system and speakers installed. I asked and the showroom is willing to install my recently upgraded system into the new car. Then I can get a couple of basic speakers and get on with it 7) There is an "Elate" VXI version of the Ritz launched in 2014. This has two advantages over the normal VXI- firstly, its got a 2Din dash integrated music system with bluetooth, USB and Aux along with 4 speakers and secondly, it comes with rear parking sensors. This eliminates the biggest gripe with users- lack of rear visibility. If I was to get the Ritz I would have a rear camera or a sensor system installed anyway This car is just 15K more than the VXI. If I buy the plain VXI and add a stereo and speakers with rear parking sensors, the cost will be the same. If I get one, even with a waiting period (thats there anyway with the Ritz), I will be sure to get a 2014 model. I havent asked regarding availability though 8) Both the LXI models also dont have rear seat head rests which I dont hink is really a deal breaker for a mostly city car 9) The Lxi models dont have body coloured door handles. Not a deal breaker at all. I can easily fit aftermarket chrome handle covers or something 10) The Lxi model doesnt have a tach. Again I dont feel that much of an issue. I never had a tach on the Waggie anyway 11) The Lxi models dont have central locking. I plan to have the same installed through the dealership- it costs 6k To summarise, I would rather buy the Swift LXI or the Ritz Elate version. If I get the Lxi Swift, I will put in my own header unit and a couple of decent speakers along with a central locking. I can then upgrade the car with better speakers at a later date. It all hinges on the testdrive at another dealership tomorrow and the final rates. What do you guys think? Ameyam
  6. I would actually suggest a Wagon R. The tall boy design and upright seating posture make it easier to pickup. I learnt that way. Its outside your budget and you are a learner, so i would recommend a preowned car. Best pick up a pre 2010 True value Wagon R from a authorised Maruti dealership Ameyam
  7. Did some research yesterday. The main issue was the possibility of not being able to refit the dash grille once the speakers are installed as the tweeter projects too far out of the cone. However, the speakers already installed have a tweeter standing 6mm or so out of the cone. I found literature for Jbl gto048 that have its teweeter 6mm out but no idea on polk. Can anyone advice / confirm? Ameyam
  8. Putting in my feedback for anyone looking for similar. The 3690ui is a very nics HU. Very clear & logical Ameyam
  9. Hi, The front speakers in my Wagon R vxi 2008 are buzzing & need replacing. Please suggest good speakers that arent very expensive. I am looking for clear sound, a lot of bass is not really needed Ameyam
  10. Ok. I will post. The thread I started came listed in a different forum, so couldn't reply earlier

  12. Hi, My second hand 2008 Wagon-R has a few scratches on the dash & side panels. Read somewhere that dashboard polishes (F1 make for example) gets these out. Is this correct? Ameyam
  13. Well, rubbery is the way it is. It's just very free & not very precise. The more experienced drivers don't seem to have any problems with it. If fact they keep telling me it's nice & smooth but I feel more secure driving their newer cars. The do agree regarding the bush though. I keep feeling it resist it to go into a lower gear or keep going into 4th instead of 2nd or reverse. May be it's in my head though. Need to spend more time in it, not working out right now. Haven't taken it to a MASS as yet, have a good mechanic keep an eye on it while I gain my confidence Ameyam
  14. Hi, having a couple of small small discomforts with my 2nd hand 2008 WagonR. To surmise, the gear lever feel loose. I drove a couple of friends'cars and their gear stick has less play. So without looking down, you can tell what gear you are in. In mine, I sometimes wonder whether I am in second or fourth. The spring resistance also Isint the same. Feels more clunky then stiff Secondly, I seem to keep jerking when going from a standing start. There is no gear noise & I do add in accelerator. But it does seem to jerk no matter how slowly I declutch. Happens some times in second as well. I am a learning driver but I don't see to have that problem on my colleagues' cars. I know this is subjective but may be you guys can suggest what to get checked Ameyam
  15. Well, I got it resolved through my mechanic & his contacts. Even when he was taking the car, the light was switching off intermittently. He said they did some setting. I believe that means they cleared the lingering fault from the Pc. The car (since it was preowned) is fully serviced- I got the engine oil & coolant (and a couple of belts he didn't give me full details about) replaced. Is there anything else I need to do? The car has 37k km but no service history was available. It shows evidence of being in am accident but having been fixed & my mechanic has gone over the structure Ameyam
