  1. TATA Zest spied again: Spied again is the Tata Zest compact sedan but this time it was its base variant. As per spy shots reveal, the following things indicate that it was base variant: -Pressed steel wheels. -Black unpainted side ORVMs. -Rear windscreen without defogger. -Non-projector Headlamps with halogen bulbs. Good to see that LED tail-lamps are standard across the range. Lets see what other things will be there on this basic variant by the time it'll be launched. (Source: Motorbeam)
  2. Ikon TDCi was & Figo is considerably lighter than Fiesta using the same powerplant, also Fiesta's extra boot & luggage section made same engine to lug relatively more kerb weight which ended in blunt performance & compromised reliability. Also another fact was that Fiesta always got 1.4 TDCi imported CBU engine initially, which made the perception of expensive maintenance while the same 'made in India' engine came into existence much later with relative improvements & it was introduced first into Ikon 1.4 TDCi which gave it another new lease of life & test run for the engine, later on which proved even MORE RELIABLE & OFFERED BETTER DRIVEABILITY due to Ikon's more better dynamics & ergonomics. Hence Ikon offered more bang for money even within same set of resources. Ikon was much more of driver's car than Fiesta or this Driver involving factor element has gone decreasing everytime with its subsequent generations. Later on in Ikon which was discontinued as it was unable to meet BS-IV norms & Ford refused to invest on it due to its soared demand. Resale of Ford Fiesta in poor in our region, though. It happened more than one time in India, another prime example is Old-Zen vs Zen estilo(you being a former's owner & might know this better), previous Alto vs Alto 800. Btw, I can understand your dilemma, driving any Ford car for once makes a long lasting impression & makes you feel fan & addicting of it even after driving my friend's Ford Ikon TDCi for a short distance makes me feel what i'm driving(about my cars). So once you drive a Ford, you heart will always say FORD FORD FORD, so i'll not gonna change you mindset regarding that & neither i can. lol. Pitting Ford against its Non sub-4m competitors like Linea Classic or Verito, neither can give you good re-sale in the end nor either of them can make eyebrows stand that you brought a YES ! car. So, its all about your satisfaction, so choose wisely what your pocket & mind says as ultimately both of these gonna make you retain your car for a period of time. One thing i wanna add, there's nothing thing to be called Sub-4m or Non 4m car in this segment & please don't be too much fastedious about this fact as it doesn't matter too much either when you get everything correct in one package. Instead sub-4m's are more driveable in Urban conditions. I'd still say, do check out Hyundai Xcent, its worth to check it out than Etios.
  3. These're not camouflaging covers on its body, instead these are just white plastic sheet covers & these are used during its logistics. Hope so, this is an inter or intra-dealership transport of vehicle.
  4. For Rs.8.5 lacs, you're having many options. But stay away from Ford Classic as its an age-old product with dated engine, mechanicals, poor market value & market reputation. Its reliability record is also not so good, instead a used Ford Ikon 1.4 TDCi is better than it in many respects. Keen on hardcore non 4m sedan, rather than new Ford Classic, i'd say Mahindra Verito is better. or you should take a plunge in sub-4 m compact sedans & there's nothing bad in it anything either now since many good looking CS cars are there in the market which offers the same level of space, performance & practicality in them with using much road footprint & precious fuel. Still not a matter of worry who drive alot. Service costs of every other diesel cars have increased over the period of time both because of inflation as well as technological upgradations. If one car saves few grands at its service, one has to pay at other end say service costs of Honda Amaze are half of my Dzire but for saving few grands you're getting a noisy ride daily & similarly for Toyota Etios you save few grands at the cost of quality. But in Dzire, you get simply everything you Desire from a Rs.7-8 lacs car. Be it a Refinement, Driving pleasure, Ride quality, Reliability, Spare parts availability & costs(not service), fuel efficiency of somewhere around 21.5kmpl(mine ZDi Dzire). One thing which i've experience in my Dzire ZDi is(maybe a Pro or a con) but that's is its ride height which is relatively on higher side as compared to Dzire VDi which runs on smaller, lower 165/80 R14 tyres as compared to mine ZDi's taller & wider 185/65R15. Its not a bad car, instead its a best seller & is a current best selling too bought with a brain. My neighbor have also brought one i.e Silver Dzire VDi & few other friends in my circle do owns it. or have a look at New Hyundai Xcent Diesel & share your reviews with us.
  5. For FIAT fans who always say that FIAT always makes good designs ! Just have a look at Diablo MPV & Multipla, though Diablo still looks styled in its own way but this 500L is a looker. What if FIAT starts manufacturing it in India ! It'll be a comeback & blockbuster for FIAT India & no-offense, a real real worthy competitor to curvy Swift(in terms of looks)
  6. I haven't experienced such kinda thing in my Maruti Swift Dzire which is also powered by the same 1.3 Multijet engine but with an Fixed geometry turbo. Lag is there but is not as pronounced as in 90PS VGT version, reason being: -Most of the cars with 1.3 Multijet FGT engine are not so heavy(except Fiat Punto) in their kerb weight, so engine power at lower rpm is considerable enough to propel the bodyshell. -Cars featuring 90PS VGT Multijet engine are relatively heavier & some are even heavier than an 1.3 Diesel engine can lug in its Naturally aspirated(NA) avatar i.e in Lag zone, here 'Displacement matter matters'. -There's negligible torque difference between FGT & VGT versions of same engine, even FGT & VGT torque band aren't much different in sub 2000rpm band. So these factors does creates a difference in driveability in respective cars. Personally i've experienced this 1.3 Multijet VGT 90PS engine a power dud in Manza as well as Linea below 2000rpm with very poor power delivery specially in higher gears but haven't seen or heard such thing as pronounced in Ertiga. @sreek; Since your car is already 9k+ on its odometer, so I think its time for its service. For power loss this factor does play a major role, Burnt engine oil & 'CHOKED AIR FILTER' can be the real culprit here. Get your car thoroughly serviced as per its service schedule including its AIR FILTER must replaced alongwith other recommended consumables changed. I'm sure more 50% of you car's problem will be solved.
  7. The car featured this is all-new SAIL notchback. Besides featuring all-new interiors, its exteriors seems to be all new, see the quarter glass section in its rear door is all-new & different in shape. In front & rear i hope it'll feature new styling as well in lines of next-gen Cruze.
  8. As per the news released few months ago, Mitsubishi is planning 6 new cars for India which include Mirage hatchback, most probably. However i'm not sure about this Attrage sedan.
  9. Reading part-wise cost breakup, i won't say its expensive. All the jobs performed are mandatory & every job done is essential to keep the car moving swiftly for lacs of kms. Haven't they replaced it gear/transmission oil ? & what's there in Service kit ? As a remarks, You would have saved couple of grands if opted for Mineral engine oil instead of Synthetic one but IMHO the money spend on synthetic engine oil is well spend. There're two reasons for it -First being the engine oil life, for mineral it's ~5k kms while for synthetic it's almost double plus you'll get improved NVH & better engine refinement.
  10. Adding my choice, Renault Scala could be one of the best choice amongst sedans while amongst SUVs i'd say try TATA Safari STORME, as it's a good, capable vehicle plus it's having great legroom at rear to accomodate the driver seat pushed rearwards. Just to add a bit to this fact. Toyota ETIOS top-end variant comes with flat-bottomed steering wheel with Airbag & steering mounted audio controls. Probably Liva top-end variant also comes with the same For recent alteration however, please do confirm Toyota dealership & product itself. Ya, will definitely share the next proceeding.
  11. This is large for a i20-based premium hatchback. Larger means large on dimensions as well as large on budget/initial costs as well. Being based on i20 & being an improved next-gen avatar of it & going as per hyundai's pricing past trends, i expect this car to be atleast-alteast 60-80k expensive than current i20. However, one can expect a leap ahead in styling as well as equipment for this new upcoming large premium hatchback.
  12. To which bike you're referring to ? Is it Hyosung or Aprilla ! as both are as different genres of biking. Still, i think you're referring here to Hyosung Aquila 250 cruiser bike. It's a good bike for the price at which it's offered & features, looks it's having. You can continue your discussion further with complete details.
  13. Surprised to see, your altered choice toward the car in 2nd line. Out of 3 quote in first line, i'd say Honda Amaze not because it's the best, instead it's the most sorted & well rounded product of all three. SAIL loses on interiors, brand value(compared to other 2) & most importantly re-sale value while ETIOS/Liva is again a well known story to all(maybe due for a replacement a year or half later). Regarding ENJOY, i'd say it's more of a taxi oriented vehicle, even it's adapted as per it too except its top-end variants which maybe finished differently to appeal personal car buyers. But neither its drivetrain nor its are well suited for an individual rider or say Individual owner who drives him/herself. Yes its noisy with limited power-torque figures, its interiors are old-ish, its shape is boxy. Still for MPV, i'd say Maruti Ertiga rules with its delightfully laid interiors, good equipment level, very very refined 1.3 DDiS 90PS VGT engine which is surprisingly silent too. Service costs are again very well known & are expectedly in everyone's reach. Only upcoming Honda Mobilio can challenge its reign to be a trustworthy, refined, comfortable, affordable, RELIABLE & last but not the least powerful(Yes !) MPV. Still wanna explore the MPV bag further, just drop yourself at Ashok Leyland Passenger cars/vehicles showroom to check out their 'Stile MPV'. Its way better looker than the car on which it's based, it's a well executed product for the price, well finished for the segment. Atleast a sensible option than Enjoy.
  14. This car is already having space to get accomodated in its segment, since it's dominated by only 2 players now i.e New Honda City & Hyundai Verna, with other rivals like Sunny, Scala adding upto few hundreds of volumes/month. GM always had strong presence in this segment since they came into India, initially in the form of Opel Astra, then Chevrolet Optra, then Optra Magnum & now once again they can comfortably slot this all-new Optra, even now there's a huge void between SAIL sedan & CRUZE sedan, again which the latter can easily fill & can give customers the much needed change & well rounded product. Talking in favor of GM India, mostly they refrained from bringing american or non-korean chevrolet products in India like SPIN MPV, SONIC twins & brought here old-platform based cost-effective SAIL twins or Enjoy like chinese products, specially after GM India Talegaon facility being taken over by SAIC Motors, as major stakeholder. Now the product or even the market itself cries this product be here, lets see how GM India responds to this situation or they're going to explore the original Chevrolet product basket again, as earlier. Lets see.
  15. That seems to be a giant leap interms of brand as well as price of a device. Z2 seems to be a piece of art, with SONY's Triluminous display(gives it just a LED TV like experience), full water proof body & many more technical leaps. That's better that you're quite high on budget, else recently unveiled SONY T2 Ultra phablet phone is a great device to live with again 1.5 Ghz Quad core processor, Triluminous display with Bravia 2 engine, 6-inch display with Dual sim support, all at ~Rs.25k. Worth watch & worthy alternative to Note2 or its rivals in sub 30k price range. You can easily get High-speed modem in the range of ~Rs.2-2.5k, preferable brands are TP-LINK & Belkin, where the former has relatively lower prices with good warranty support. **EDIT** Quote reply added.
  16. Congratulations alot Shashank for new job. 'Party toh banti hai'.
  17. One more soft facelift/makeover including engine tweaks to Chevrolet CRUZE in India: Chevrolet Cruze has received a minor update after a refresh in October 2013. While the bumper and grille were redesigned last time, along with the addition of two more airbags (on higher variants), this time around, the change is minor, in the form of integrated turn indicators on the wing mirrors. According to company claims, the efficiency of the automatic variant has also been improved in a bid to boost sales. The Cruze sedan is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine good for 165bhp. Both the automatic and manual versions use six-speed gearboxes. The Chevrolet Cruze is available in three trims – LT, LTZ manual and LTZ automatic. Prices for the Cruze facelift are as follows: LT - Rs 13.7 lakh LTZ MT - Rs 15.19 lakh LTZ AT - Rs 16.19 lakh (All prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). (Source: Autocar India)
  18. Relying on one good selling product at a time worked good for Ford India sequentially, from Ford Figo to Ford EcoSport & to march ahead ford is going to bank on Fiesta facelift to fill the time void till New Figo compact sedan takes shape into production in early 2015. However this car is long overdue, considering current Figo already looked like current crop of cars at its time of its launch. End-2015 is expected launch, lets see how story unfolds, meanwhile expect Ford's gujarat plant to get operational by that time also.
  19. OMG ! I've seen the service invoice of your car now. MG Parts costs are fair but labour costs are way high, which i'll discuss below in this post. In the list of consumables in invoice, I can see the name of 2 oils being used/billed. 1. MGDO- Maruti Genuine Diesel oil, basically an engine oil. Here it's mineral type, going as per its price. 2. MGGO- Maruti Genuine Gear Oil. But down later in remarks, they're writing gear oil replacement due. Please do check this at service centre for its details. BTW, Mud flap fitting cost however is a joke, as it involves fixing 3 self fixing plastic locks on either sides. Very right, librankur. Paid service charges include Washing charges(~Rs.250), engine oil replacement charges, air filter inspecting/replacement charges & general inspection charges. Brake disc rubbing, brake fluid bleed & like other processes which are quite related are charged high but their costs are calculated from car's stock fully built/grounds up condition not the way they're already opened or they're related. Here comes interested aspect, since nearby parts are already opened they add up few other processes also beacuse they're earning more & spending lesser time on them because most of these parts are steps of same chain but can be charged independently as per their costs breakup.
  20. Still messing with the engine oil woes, have been to MASC last week to finally arrive at some conclusion & to replace it but somehow Service Supervisor wasn't convinced about the fact of Engine oil type vs Engine NVH aspect. I tried to convince him but even after TD at 150kmph he(infact his TA) didn't agreed, primarily due to the fact that they always recommend or infact other Dzire with Regular(mineral engine oil) but still i believed elevated NVH an aspect based on this & i remain struck on to it. Since my car was some 16,400 kms old & was in MASC 2.5 months prior to her service specified, so they tried to get it serviced for 20k kms service but, for some obvious reasons. While discussing the same, came an interesting aspect at SM's PC, that due inavailibility at stock my car's Air filter wasn't replaced at specified 10k kms service, since it's now almost 65% driven over schedule, on inspecting it came out almost dusty & somehow choked. Since, i wasn't been to MASC for that service, this aspect never came into my mind. Being a petrol car owner previously, this doesn't matter much either but for diesel specially turbocharged high speed/rpm diesel engine, this alongwith engine oil is a crucial aspect. Finally, on replacing it with all-new one, car is now breathing well with relatively lesser engine but not less as i am used to earlier. BTW, On asking the details about 20k kms service, estimated serivce bill is around Rs.10k, however around 2-2.2k less if Mineral engine oil is used. Goenkakushal you're right in this aspect.
  21. This is quite the same as i speculated yesterday in my post above. Its interiors are truly upmarket, exactly what a Punto deserves. More or ess this facelift seems to be much inspired from Fiat 500.
  22. Surprised ! If this can really happen in India & that's too at dealership level. The kind of customization level happening like this is really applaudable indicating the value given to the customer's demand & tastes. Definitely, this will sell.
  23. So after the upcoming launch of New Linea, we can expect Punto to undergo facelift for India, which include new set of bumpers, headlights, tail-lights & might be accompanied with few refreshed bits for its interiors, shared with New Linea i'd say. The good thing is that this face-lift for Punto seems to be the recent one, not just a picked bits from other Punto facelifts from other markets.
  24. New Honda City SV CVT variant in Delhi retails at around Rs.9.31 lacs & I'm sure for On-road price it'll fall very well in your budget category of <Rs.12 lacs. I suggest you to go for it. Else other options in price range includes Skoda Rapid Automatic, it'll also costs you below Rs.12lacs for on-road pricing. Rest check the prices of these cars in your city, i've taken the case of prices in Delhi however they don't vary much in any other city.
  25. Planning to replace its Alloy wheels with another new one, as i'm not happy with current Alloy wheel's design. Suggestion please.
