  1. I wont recommend you Apollo tyres. I strongly suggest you to abstain from apollos. They are prone to manufacturing defects and tyre busts. I have 5 friends in my circle who had problem with apollos or a tyre bust . One of my friends met with an accident when his magnums tyre busted at high speed. The other had tyre bust twice on his swift . I will suggest you to go for other reputed brand . Even bridgestone gets hard after 30,000 as they proceed towrds their end of life and starts making noice. You can try a yokohama A drive if you want to spend more or can go for MRF ZVTS or Goodyear Duraplus . You can also go for 176/70 R13 upgrade . It will be a decent upgrade .
  2. The reviews about bosch brake pads are positive. One of my friends is using these on his Ritz VDI. In his opinion the braking effieciency is good and the blackening of alloys has decreased in comparison to stock brake pads which were TVS . He is a rash driver and his brake pads last maximum 20,000 kms
  3. There are many additives available in the market. The most easily available at local petrol stations for instance at Bharat petroleum stations , you can find System G for petrol and System D for diesel by Intex. I am not sure how much improvement will it make to your cars performance but it will help to clear deposits in fuel injection system. But be cautious to add recommended level and not to exceed them as it can corrode metal parts in fuel line resulting into obstructing something. It can corrode and decay rubber parts if used in excess. Other caution : Pour additive in well ventilated area and avoid storage in car cabin or rear boot. A spill in the car can be hazardous for health.
  4. I think it wont be a wrong choice either to go with VXI instead of ZXI considering the price difference. You should go with it , it will be a fine choice . If you are spending around 5 lac on this car , you can also test drive Celerio AMT , it will also be fun to drive for you and a reletively fresh face . But due to long waiting period for delivery it is far from being a good alternate option. Good luck ! Those accessories you are planning will be cool option to enhance its looks! But be cautious from where you buy it. Dont compromise on quality and dont spend without giving a thought. Check your local vendors for stuff and you will discover a good price difference in quotations . Be careful on that. As per your spoiler if its already painted , its fine or else you need a good paint job .
  5. To win this jackpot, pandey ji , you have to with the audience poll. I think ComputerG lock kar diya , your only suggested option Celerio. When there are so many learned minds suggesting you celerio above, how can i deviate. Go with it and you will be a hapy man !
  6. Friends and fellows , in this thread i wish everyone to share their practical experiences about engine swaps. What swap you made and from where you sourced and cost incurred on such experiments. I hope it could be beneficial to others . Kindly contribute with pictures even if its your friends cars...
  7. The maruti suzuki zen came with a electronic power steering orignally fitted by manufacturer. There was an issue with the electronic steerings in zen which failed at some stage in many cars due to water getting in the circuit due to washing as owners were unaware or at other times that circuit failed . But that small circuit , the size resembling the bigger homelight matchbox , also failed at other times out of unknown reasons. The electronic power steering mainly composed of that circuit control i mentioned above which costs around from Rs 3500 to Rs 5000 depending upon its repaired or orignal , available with disposal shops and the motor around Rs 8000 in the disposal market. Its good if you could find a company that does the job OR the otherway is if you could source one from disposal market complete set . I guess it should cost you below Rs 15000 and your mechanic should be able to install it with the help of electrician.
  8. Mahindra 2.5 engine is a quite efficient engine and i dont understand what kind of performance you want to extract out it. Since you think its not giving you power surge , you should take a test drive of other competitors of same segment like innova and you will feel mahindra engine is more responsive. Still you can go with modifications , the simplest of all being the air intake , you can fix some free flow air filter like K & N . I am not sure of compatible filter availability but it wont be an issue. Again if you are in dusty conditions your stock filtration is best. Spending more you will have to check for ECM remapping and that has to be an expert job and money pouring in . Your car is a decent car , i will suggest you not to tamper it.
  9. hello friend, i have read your query. I observe you have 3 cars on mind. Every opinion is based on personal experiences. Let me tell you that i will advocate a suzuki car and try to suggest you with other options as well. i10grand: I will suggest you to refrain from hyundai unless you have a special taste for it. Hyundai cars are fun to drive with very smooth pedals and equipment, a better plastic quality then rivals but i have noticed that the metal used is prone to rusting. You can notice rusting body underneath hood and boot and also underbody especially in front of rear wheels on older accents and santro . Its a pain . You have mentioned REASONABLE COST OF OWNERSHIP as your priority . Though suzuki cars are no longer cheap but yet the cost of maintenance is less comparatively. This suggestion is out of previous ownership of a hyundai accent crdi and santro. Ecosport : Unless you are a fan of the looks of ecosport or wish to buy a SUV style car with low price tag, i will strongly suggest not to buy ford as parts availability in open market is less and they cost you a fortune. The biggest drawback with ford is they suffer parts failure with time without wear and tear. They demand parts replacements and the cost is relatively high. Above suggestion is out of experience with ownership of a ford icon 1.3 petrol. Swift : I will suggest you to go with a suzuki Swift . When it will come to longterm ownership , suzuki will cost you less and as per your priority i will consider this parameter. The parts are widely and locally available in case of urgency. The quality of swift has been considerably improved. The swift faced a braking efficiency issue on older models and on new swift ABS has improved braking capabilities. Resale: When we count on this Swift will again score high in comparison to hyundai and ford. Though Hyundai also has a good resale in India. Diesel/Petrol: As per your current driving pattern, i suggest to buy a petrol version of any car . Lets take example of swift . Diesel swift costs 1 lac over petrol ( top variants). As your daily driving distance is 10 kms presently and lets take a hypothetical situation for same distance. If you drive daily 10 kms like this and both the car ( petrol-diesel) deliver you an overall efficiency of 15 kmpl in actual driving conditions for start stop short distance, then at present fuel prices ( diesel 55 rs /lt and petrol 80 rs / lt ) , it turns out to be a cost difference of rs 2 per km in which case you will take another 13 years to recover the cost difference of 1 lac rs without calculating the interest and lets keep the cost difference in spares of petrol- diesel plus battery aside and service cost aside. Other options: I will suggest you to consider other options in same price tag also considering your budget of 5-7 lac rs. EX-Showroom price as per maruti suzuki official website in Chandigarh: Swift ZDI : 6.71 lac OR Ertiga VXI ABS: 6.71 OR Dzire AMT: 6.63 lac OR Dzire ZXI : 6.34 lac OR Dzire VDI: 6.51 L( approx.) Swift ZXI : 5.70 lac OR Swift VDI : 5.95 OR Ertiga LXI: 5.95 lac OR Dzire LDI : 5.95 lac OR Dzire VXI : 5.44 lac ( approx.) Swift VXI : 4.89 lac OR Swift LDI : 5.48 OR Dzire LXI :4.89 lac OR Celerio VXI AMT : 4.49 lac approx. LXI,VXI,ZXI : PETROL LDI,VDI,ZDI: DIESEL AMT: FOR SEMI AUTO TRANSMISSION ( only for understanding, not exact ) CONCLUSION: You should consider other options also in the same price tag. I have tried to classify them. You can consider new auto transmission celerio if you want a hatch back as you have a short distance to drive and it shall cost you 5.30 lac on road and it will be easier for short drives. You should also give a thought to DZire due to practicality of boot space. Its a heaven when you have a boot at rear to use. On occasional family trips you will realize its worth. As a collegian i always preferred sedan with a boot over a hatch, its really necessary. In context to your ecosport you should give a serious thought and test drive Ertiga. It has high seating drives like a MUV. Has a very soft ride and comfortable suspension and is a very practical car. It gives you a feel of bigger car with better brakes and lot of space. Good Luck!
  10. Congrats for your new companion. I can imagine how confusing the period is before buying a car and how joyful it is after owning a car. Its like a big addition to a family , like a new born brought to home . Wish you safe driving and luck on road. We will wait for your reviews in the future!
  11. Appreciate your work. Keep it up. Observing your passion why dont you try this with other materials . I have noticed vintage car models handcrafted with steel as a work of art at various showrooms as decor. Those distorted shaped car models and even tank models are sold as high as 3 to 6 thousand. And they even dont involve minute and exact meausrements. You can give a thought . Atleast for your home decor. Good luck!
  12. I feel LeoRahi has answered your questions to satisfaction. I agree with his reply. ABS should be made compulsory in present scenario as it enhances the steering control to a great extent. ABS also has its drw backs. Its due to poor construction quality of roads with loose gravel and pot holes. Example : ABS is anti locking braking system, it wont lock your brakes and car doesnt skid under hard braking and you can maneuver the vehicle and escape accident. BUT if there is loose gravel on road or you hit a pothole or one tyre is on kaccha portion of road, ABS will work decrasing the stopping distance of vehicle and chance of hitting increases. CRASH TEST: There is a responsibilty on part of manufacturers also . You can find an article on internet about major companies cars failing crash tests in india. Its again a big ? DRIVER: Human role is significant. LeoRahi has mentioned drunken driving already so wont mention same things. Obtaining driving license without proper channel is a big reason for ignorant and unaware drivers on load, a direct threat to other commuters. Plus they remove the head rests on car seats for style but doesnt know how fatal that activity is. In short they cannot predict the consequences of their acts. The list is endless , lets other enlightened minds contribute.
  13. Here it is my friends ... and thanks brother for instructing me on picture uploads.
  14. Well never expected this discussion! But its tasty to discuss it. Nice cuisine you are having out there. Well i had my chicken salad . Wish i could post a picture. I dont know actually how to post one. Its a salad of chicken garlic tikka cut into pieces with broccoli and lettuce with a thick creamy base of yogurt and mayo with salt and black pepper sprinkled with lemon juice and virgin olive oil and strawberries on top. Most important i made it myself. Sounds yummy!
  15. In my opinion its just another edited old car. Do you remember the days when maruti used to launch a new model with just chrome handles and door kits , i mean nothing except like adding another spoon of sugar to your shake. Since consumer has matured a bit , now theres another trend of these crossovers . Etios cross didn't appeal to me much . It gives rather a look of cheap plastic outside and more a toy like look. I tried to discover something macho in it but didnt really find it. On my morning walks i often see a palio cross and an opel corsa cross and yet those are compatible with their shapes, looks more a natural design and not a exaggerated fitments. Maybe they didnt fair well because they were introductions before time . This is also a problem with Indian market that anything introduced before time and late in market wont get a desirable response. End of the day , lets see how it copes with the market conditions. Indian auto market is a place where you can find customer for every type of car. Thats why its written in school history books : Unity in Diversity.
