  1. I have just come across some images of Maruti's new XL6 people mover. The images show off the car without any exterior camouflage. The changes on the outside appear to include exterior body cladding, black alloy wheels and faux skid plates, besides these changes the rest of the bodywork is the same as the regular Ertiga. The XL6 as the name suggests is also expected to have a six-seat configuration with captain chairs in the second row. Maruiti is also expected to sell the XL6 via its premium Nexa dealerships. What do you guys think of the new Maruti Suzuki XL6? Image Source -

  7. Maruti Suzuki could launch the Ertiga CNG as early as next week. The CNG powered version of the Ertiga is expected to use the 1.4 Liter K-Series petrol engine, converted to run on CNG. The 1.4 Liter K-Series petrol engine outputs 94 Bhp-130 Nm and a similar power and torque output could be delivered on CNG too. The Ertiga CNG will come with a supplementary petrol tank, a handy addition that will give the MPV its dual fuel moniker. Variants of the Ertiga MPV in CNG-Petrol guise are said to be priced about 30,000 rupees higher than the equivalent petrol variants. However, only LXi and VXi version of the Ertiga CNG might go on sale. The 10 kilogram capacity of CNG tanks on most cars delivers a range of 200-300 Kms, making a higher number of refueling trips necessary when compared that on petrol or diesel cars. 8. And another one to the CNG gang. According to reliable sources, the company will announce and even start rolling out a greener variant of the Ertiga within 2-3 months. India’s largest carmaker is aiming to sell nearly 1,000-1,500 units of the Ertiga CNG every month. Currently, it is sold in petrol (1.4-litre, 4-cylinder) and diesel (1.3-litre, 4-cylinder) variants, and the Ertiga MPV sells, on average, 5,000-6,000 units per month. Ertiga sales have been filling in the vacuum caused by the dip in sales of other passenger cars from Maruti over the past year. The Ertiga currently faces the closest competition from the Mahindra Quanto and Renault Duster. However, the growing MPV/SUV segment lacks any CNG variant so far and Maruti is planning to tap into this space by making the Ertiga the first CNG-powered MPV in India. Looks like Maruti has hit the bulls eye again. This one is sure to fly off the shelves with more and more CNG powered cars hitting the roads. Will be interesting to see the CNG tank placement on this one.
  9. After the success of the Maruti Ertiga, Fiat has been studying the option of launching a seven-seat version of its 500L micro-MPV. Based on a modified Punto platform, this extended version of the five-seat 500L will have a large rear overhang, flat folding seats on all three rows and some really clever packaging. The car pictured here is only a computer-generated image based on the recently shown 500L. What’s immediately evident is that this car’s neo-retro styling works well, despite the slightly ungainly MPV proportions. The non-aggressive, round-edged details lend this MPV a cheerful demeanour. The nose is pure Fiat 500 (albeit with elongated headlights), the big wraparound glasshouse looks stunning, the surfboard-like roof is super cool and the elongated tail-lights match the long lights at the front. The big, squared-off wheel arches look a bit out of character though. Interior space will be maximised by compacting internal fittings and fixtures, and the insides will have coloured inserts on the dash that match the colour of the car. Fiat has used slim pillars and wrap-around glass to lend an airy feel to the cabin and the neo-retro look has been carried onto the dash of the car too. Fiat is likely to use the updated 90bhp version of its 1.3 diesel (called Multijet II) to power this car. The updated engine features advances in areas of injection, turbocharging and internal friction. This extended seven-seat version of the 500L is expected to replace the Fiat Idea in Europe, and Fiat is expected to sell it in other grown-up markets like the US as well. That will mean the 500L will be engineered to meet global crash-test norms and that certainly bodes well for India as well. If Fiat fully localises this car, expect nothing more than an Ertiga-matching price of between Rs 8 to 10 lakh. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thats the post on Autocar Exclusive. Now, what I feel is that Fiat will be weary of adding any new models to their Indian line up. Punto and Linea, howsoever beautifully crafted and running on the famous 1.3 multijets, they have been too low on sales figures. Even the 2012 editions have not seen roads enough. Fiat had already played this card once with the Fiat Adventure which was basically a stretched Palio/Petra, which did not work. That size is ideally suited for a 7 seater but the Adventure was only an estate with a seating capacity of 5.
