  1. Hello All, I had asked fellow members on the AAA forum when I decided to buy a new car. I had already narrowed down to the Ford Classic, but wanted to understand the views of others on this decision. Had TD'd Linea too and to be honest, these were the only 2 cars I had shortlisted. After a month long turmoil, I finally decided to go for the Ford Classic owing to too many factors. I would like to thank the numerous friends who joined the discussion to help me with my decision. RSSH, Kdar90, Monoclonal, Dr Nishu, LeoRahi and SachinS.. I hope I listed all.. Cost of ownership - 8.58 lacs for the top trim. Safety features it comes with Compact dimensions - not too bulgy like the Linea - I want to be able to take this out daily Fun to drive Frugal maintenance More Kms to the liter. I test drove the Ford like 4 times before finalizing it. Once just in the city at ambling speeds, once with my wife, once just to make sure this is the car I wanted and once for my dad - he wanted to see the comfort on the rear seat. Booked one on May 2, Akshay Tritiya - a Moondust (whatever) Silver. Booking Amount - 10,000/- Down Payment - 2,00,000/- (incl the booking amount) Loan Amount - 6,58,000/- (from SBI @ 10.95% - no prepayment penalty) On Road Price Pune - 8,84,000/- (incl. 3rd yr extended warranty, Zero Dep Ins and RTO taxes) Discount offered - Corporate Discount - 16,500/- Cash Discount - 10,000/- Final On Road Price - 8.58,000/- Got the VIN today and turns out I get a April 2014 manufactured car!! Not bad at all... I read through the "want to know when your car was made" section to find that out. Quite a helpful thread there... The loan will be sanctioned in a couple of days but it turns out that I will have to visit the SBI branch to complete a few formalities there... ridiculous to me since the other banks do it right there at the dealership. Nevertheless, its SBI.. plus, i get a lower rate of interest there with no prepayment penalty. Hope to have the car home some time next week... More updates to follow...
  2. I have been looking at buying a diesel family sedan for the last month or so. I already own a M800 for the last 9 years and it takes care of most of my commuting requirements. However as highways get better I feel the M800 looks out of place in highways. Also it is tiring as you get old to make long trips in a M800. Cars I had test driven/researched 1. Skoda Rapid TDI: Pro's 1. Simple and elegant design and interiors. 2. Good drivability and comfort. 3. Rear A/c - nice to have if you happen to drive in Chennai. 4. Superb stability at high speeds Con's 1. Only one dealer in Chennai or Hyderabad - Read a lot of not so nice reviews. 2. 12 lac + price for the top variant (do not see this as value for money) 3. Limited service options if I happen to drive in smaller towns. Decided to skip for the price and dealership reviews 2. Hyundai Verna Pro's 1. Nice design. Best looking sedan for me by a mile. 2. Hyundai CRDI - Been around for long and can be trusted. 3. Lot's of goodies come standard. Con's 1. Only one and that is the vehicle stability at high speeds. Was there in the last 2 but lost out. 3. Honda City Pro's 1. Honda brand and reliability 2. Re-sale value Con's 1. Might be I am one of the very few Indians who likes minimalist designs. And for me the Chrome in 2014 model is too much to bear. The previous Honda City design might have tilted the scale if it was available in diesel now. 4. Ford Classic 2014 TDCI Titanium Pro's 1. My dad already owns a petrol Fiesta and I know more than what I do not know. 2. Good drivability - especially in highways where the surface is not always flat (non-divided highways). 3. Has some of the aesthetics I like in a car. Con's 1. Some parts are real expensive - Had one of the headlamp assembly in my dad's Fiesta broken by a tempo backing up on our car. The OEM part costs about 15k. 2. Low speed torque/power is not ideal for city driving. Having weighed the pro's and con's I have decided to go ahead with the Classic diesel and have made the booking advance and down payment for 1.5 lac. The biggest factor going in this car's favor is the top end variant with nice safety features (ABS, Airbags, EBD) being available for a good price. The on road price was 8.5 lac including bumper to bumper insurance and accessories (floor mat, boot mat, mud flaps and car cover). Price does not include extended warranty. I have got an approval from SBI for 80% finance @ 10.95% (through dealer). I still need to sign the papers with the bank. I was provided with the VIN number upon booking and it looks like they have the car on the way to Secunderabad from the factory. I went for the diamond white and the display car in the showroom had complete black interiors. Will be interesting to see whether I get a one with black (preferred) or Camel brown interiors (hard to maintain with a young kid on board). I checked to see if the VIN is from recent months but looks like I will be guessing on this. None of the websites I checked so far have the details up for 2014 and I do not know if there is any change in Ford's notation for VIN numbers. My guess is that it is from July 2014. Waiting to proceed with the next steps in the coming days. Will keep you posted.

Hello all, Joined this forum today and decided to write my initial ownership review of my new car - Ford Classic 1.4 TDCI I know a lot of people on this forum would disapprove of buying this car, even my friends suggested to look elsewhere as this is a aged car and going to be discontinued soon, but I listened to my heart and went ahead and bought this car Usually my heart rules my head always, so went ahead booked the car with 10K at cauvery ford and then started to look at other cars I test drove all C segment sedans(proper sedans not sub 4 meter cross breeds) on sale except Fiat Linea(as I don't like FIAT cars) and here is my opinion 1. ETIOS - Good car but driving experience is nothing to write home about, the test drive vehicle had done around 20K and I literally experienced what it is like being a taxi driver....the driving exp. and the feedback from the car dynamics was too bad. The interior had space but not much quality and really Toyota could have done a lot more 2. Hyundai Verna Fluidic - Build Quality is like always excellent, and having owned Accent CRDi in the past I knew there would be no quality issues. The only worry was the handling department and it has gotten from bad to worse on the Verna fluidic. Its feels very detached from the road grip, like riding in a air balloon at high speeds and its very scary. Individually I am a very spirited driver and this character of the car made me stay away from Hyundai again. Rest all is good with the car and also the service bills are expensive 3. Honda City diesel - The car build quality is a step down from the out going model. Nevertheless this times it comes with fully loaded features, Space inside is class leading and the touch AC looks cool. But the car is very expensive for what it offers, the same features on other cars can be had for nearly two lakhs less. The test drive was short one but noticed that engine clatter was way too much inside and there were absolutely no offers on the car. Since I had already liked Ford classic....this car with similar features On the S variant made it look very expensive (8.6 lakhs vs 12.5 lakhs....45% more expensive) even if I considered the new new model, more space and more top end performance....4 lakhs extra wont make economical sense 4. Skoda Rapid - The dealer tried to sell me a 2013 model, too shocked I left the showroom, but later found a friend with this car and test drove it...all feels nice but when he mentioned he was charged 16k for his fourth service, it turned me off 5. Volkswagen Vento - Good car, german engineering and powerful engine and performance, but too plain with not much features and looks plain, somehow I did not like the car as my neighbour who owns advised me against it 6. TATA Manza - Never wanted to buy a TATA, even then went ahead with a open mind....liked the space inside....its not too lengthy like Nissan Sunny....its a perfect chauffeur driven car but for a proper performance driver like me it would be suicide 7. Nissan Sunny/Renault scala - Nissan Sunny as everybody knows has plenty of space but the seats lack proper thigh support and is unusually long for a city car. And the car was not exciting enough, I thought hard over the scala(as it is better looking) but later got to know update is on its way with much better improvement overall - I did not wanted to wait so I moved on 8. Chevrolet Sail - Did not like it from the word go.Even refused to take a test drive. No comments So finally coming to the Ford Classic, I found it to be reasonable and worth buying the car even if its old and main point was that supposedly there is a law in India that car manufacturer should provide service, spares and support up to 10 years from the time they discontinue a particular model, I was not sure of this so called the customer care of the Ford and they confirmed it, so most of my worries were put to rest. Also a friend working at ford factory in chennai told me they would discontinue this model only next year in June Why I finalised on the FORD CLASSIC 1. Value for money and was getting good discount too 2. Its a proper sedan for the price of a hatch with a boot 3. Fantastic Driving Dynamics 4. Feature loaded - for 8.6 lakhs on road i get ABS with EBD and two airbags-it just wins my heart and mind too 5. The maintenance costs have actually come down with ford, and most of all ford has introduced happy pocket service for 2199 net and the service centre is closer to home I booked the car on 30th May and on 5th june the showroom called that car has arrived and I can come and see the car, I went quickly and the car was being unloaded from the truck, I checked the VIN and I was surprised that the car was manufactured in may 2014 itself, even checked the tyres they were made between april 3rd and 4th week, did the PDI and it was too my satisfaction. The dealer had asked for 20 days to deliver the car so I had not got my cash ready, it took me a while as I was going for full cash, Finally took the delivery on 24th June, a good 20 days later, nevertheless the car was maintained well till my delivery. The showroom was cauvery ford in magadi road, bangalore. The SA was helpful and good but the manager was shrewd, they declined me the free accessories worth 10k if I buy the insurance outside, as I wanted the side body moulding to be done from showroom only(as there will be no colour difference) which costs 6k I budged for it. Went for the bumper to bumper insurance from reliance. And I used the F and F (friends and family) price listing for buying the car which got me 40k discount(no showroom discount of 20k, so effective discount on selling price was only 20K) Went with family to take delivery, very normal process nothing to write about. Coming to the car I bought it in MoonDust Silver, Which I am loving it. The car feels nice and good to drive. Power in the first and second gear is low, thats the only thing I hate write now and I have to down shift to 1st gear even for a small slope and in bumper to bumper traffic I have to keep juggling between the two gears which is a concern right now, will anything change after first service? I need inputs who have owned fiesta. Rest all are to my liking. The music system is just too awesome, great sound quality and also bluetooth functions very well with phone book features and redial, dialled, received and missed calls. Also bluetooth music streaming is very good with no loss in quality, even 320kbps and 480kbps songs stream well with zero lag. The USB takes a lot of time to read if its fully loaded with songs and its bad that it does every time the music system is restarted but it picks up from the place and song it left last time even after switching off and restarting the car. Rear lamps are very well lit and with the front map lights the car is totally lit if you want it to. The glove box and the boot are illuminated as well. Boot space for me is good at 430lts. Coming to the engine bay the showroom guys have sprayed some paint kind of thing all over the engine and other parts to avoid rats. Headlights are good and too my satisfaction and fog lamps are way more powerful than expected. Lots of storage options in the dash and other places. Coming to the suspension its kind of weird and I am still not able to make a opinion on it. It feels bumpy on some patches on the road and sometimes its too good absorbing all irregularities on the road, and with big road potholes it makes a thud noise from the front....please anyone tell me about this suspension The windscreen has the dashboard reflection if you are riding in direct sun light, not distracting but intrusive of course. AC is a gem, I am very happy with the performance, hope it stays the same always. Haven't tested the wipers yet. Sound Insulation is decent and with AC on it gets reduced. with windows down its noticeable only if u want to hear it otherwise its nothing to bother. Have to yet get the under chassis treatment and paint protection treatment from 3M and any suggestions on affordable transparent sun films? CR70 and CR90 from 3M are way out of my budget I think it was a long read. Thanks for staying till here, Looking forward to connect with you all BEST, Safe Driving
  4. Hello Friends, Finally, I'm on the lookout of another car! I still plan to keep my Swift which has served me very well since the past 6.5 yrs (done 73k on it - no issues) I'm on a budget here and dont want to spend more than 8.5 lacs *on road. I've zeroed on the Ford Classic Titanium diesel which fits my bill to a good extent. Its a proper 3 box, comes with all the safety features but misses heavily on a few good to have features like the steering mounted controls and climatronic AC which are on offer on the sub-4 meter so-called sedans these days. Not a showstopper for me... I'd like your opinion here - whether to go ahead and get the Classic or look for any other car in the same price bracket? I'm actually done with the hatch and would like to have a sedan now.. My Use: Primarily to be used as a daily commute to office (40-50 kms daily), wknd trips and a few long drives. Concerned about: 1. Low on power (68 bhp no turbo) thats what i read online. 2. Boot space only 430 lts - The Hyundai Xcent comes with a 407! 3. Aged now.. Also, I'd like to know if you still get these alloys as an option... i dont like the current ones on offer.
  5. Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen. After the warm welcome I decided to put a detailed review of 20K Kms ownership experience with Ford Fiesta Classic. I know the name is now changed to Ford Classic. But I still follow Fiesta Classic as thats what FORD sold to me. So lets call it Fiesta Classic rather than just Classic. I think Fiesta Brand in itself iconic. This review features my journey with the car from beginning till today. It all started with my parents saw the advertisement for Mahindra XUV in the newspapers and decide to book one for 80K as the deliveries to be made as per lucky draw. We are planning to buy a new car and we went to the mahindra showroom. But unfortunately the pricing was above our budget. Our budget was 8-10 Lacs and XUV was for 14 lacs starting. So we dropped the idea, while on the way back home, we thought of stopping at Ford Showroom to have a look at Ford cards displayed. Maybe it was a trick, but my mom loved the design of Ford Fiesta Classic displayed. We are not much of thinkers while buying our stuff. If we like it we will buy it. We liked ford fiesta classic and we ordered one and it was standing in our house after 5 days. Yes, I cut short the story. Dont want to bore you So in 5 days Fiesta Classic (first SEDAN in our Family) was in our Garage. Dealership experience was first class. Ford Showroom was excellent, handing delivery, payment everything was smooth. 5 stars to Ford Dealership. Mileage: I have finished 20K, I have got mileage of around 16 KMPL in the city traffic always with AC on. In Highways I have got 20+ always, I drive fast of highways (above 100 KMPH). So I am very very satisfied with the mileage. I know you have been hearing about 32 KMPL mileage of ford Classic. Well thats in my opinion is under standard test conditions. However I think its not a vague figure. Its definitely possible as Classic is a car with superb Mileage in city as well as highways. Driving: Its a drivers car. If you like driving and cutting across corners. This car is for you. You will love its steering capabilty and driving quality. I did not have any issues for 20K kilometres and the car is running great just like new. I am very satisfied with Ford cars. Dealership, service etc experience is way ahead than many other car dealers in India. My family has owned other brands as well in the past. Below are few pics of the things that I liked the most in the car: The Car itself: The side look is great, In my opinion Ford Classic is a car which can give you a complete Sedan experience in lowest price. I got this Diesel 1.4 TDCi for 8 Lacs all inclusive. Althought I have been maintaining my car well by cleaning it myself every 2-3 weeks. Watchman cleans it everyday. He never meets my expectation. Coming to the point, I feel the car paint Job is much better than many other car brands in India. I have a friend who owns a Black car bought in the same timeframe. His paint is 2 tones less bright than mine. I use wax polish once in 2-3 months. Cockpit looks good, Black tone: Roof gives a feeling of a car much expensive than 8 lacs good job by Ford. I think finishing of the seats is very good: I just love the front headlamp: another angle for the car. I finished 10K pretty fast I completed a trip to Karnataka travelling 2200 Kilometres alone. (Travelogue to follow) Lets get Back to the Boot: As I was talking about the finishing of the product, I must appreciate the the finishing in the boot (every corner was fabulous)
