Iveco, trucking arm of Fiat Group is all seraching it's way to the Indian truck market, which abounds with local and global manufacturers who have been surging ahead with new and high performance models. India is the fourth largest truck market in the world and is all set to overtake even the United States which is currently in third position. Many foreign truck manufactures have entered the Indian markets in the past five years. MAN, Scania, Foton and Volvo have all brought in their models into the country and even set up exclusive dealerships and service centers to cater to the needs of local buyers. Iveco, of the Italian Fiat Group is all set to enter India along with a local partner. It is rumored that Iveco has been holding rounds of talks with major truck companies in India along with Tata Motors. Iveco was also in partnership in the country providing technical support for Ashok Leyland in which they held a 15% share which they later sold to Hinduja Group in 2006 for Rs.600 crores. Progress for Iveco has been slow. The company has been in talks with Tata Motors since 2007 and is still trying to make its way into Indian markets, which is seeing increased growth in the past few years. Future growth to the tune of 8% to 10% is predicted with sales reaching well over the 3 lakh unit per annum mark which is why major trucking companies are heading in this direction.

Mahindra showcased its 2020 thar recently and while its an amazing automobile, it has been launched with only six exterior options. Mahindra has missed the option of white exterior for the thar which in my opinion is a big miss as 4/10 cars in India are white. white is not only a popular colour but is also easy to maintain and doesn’t absorb as much heat as other colours which is a boon in our hot climate. As Of Monday, May 18, 2020, India has become on of six countries that produces high horsepower locomotives indigenously. This happened with the introduction of the Electric Locomotive dubbed WAG12 (number- 60027), which produces 12,000hp (compared to the current locomotives that produce around 6,000hp) and is the first high horsepower locomotive that can operate on a broad gauge track. Additionally the locomotive can also operate on regular rail tracks as well as special tracks present in dedicated Freight Corridors. The Electric locomotive has been built under the Make in India project and has been produced by Madhepura Electric Loco Factory situated in Bihar. The same facility will produce 800 such locomotives over an 11 year span. These locomotives are also designed to do speeds of up to 120kph though it has been tested up to 132kph. India plans to offer $4.6 billion in incentives to companies setting up advanced battery manufacturing facilities as it seeks to promote the use of electric vehicles and cut down its dependence on oil. 2. India plans to retain its import tax rate of 5% for certain types of batteries, including batteries for electric vehicles, until 2022 but will increase it to 15% thereafter to promote local manufacturing. 3. Launch of Smart Cities program for enabling the adoption of EV and other e-mobility options, and EV charging and parking bays. 4. The 2020 National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) proposed by the Department of Heavy Industries in 2012 set its goal to encourage the faster adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country through government-industry collaborations, to allow India to emerge as a leader in EV manufacturing by 2020. Conclusion As EV adoption takes a faster pace in the mobility sector, quicker approach in assembling the components to establish the charging solutions is the need of the hour and must be acted upon on an immediate basis. Volkswagen has launched the new T-Roc at Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Imported as a CBU, the T-Roc sits under the Tiguan Allspace but will sit above the upcoming Taigun SUV that is due next year. The Honda Freed is an MPV sold in select Asian markets that shares its platform with the Honda Jazz premium hatchback. The carmaker will reveal the facelift of the second generation of the Honda Freed at the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Motor show, which will start next week. In Japan, the car is offered with an option of either a 129hp,1.5-litre petrol paired to a CVT automatic transmission or a 110hp, 1.5-litre hybrid which is paired to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
