  1. The Chevrolet Grove is based on the Baojun 510 SUV which has been spotted testing in India before. The MG Hector on offer in India uses the Baojun 530 as its base, hence the Baojun 510is a slightly smaller package and is more in line with the size of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The Chevrolet Groove is expected to rival the Hyundai Creta in international markets. The Groove will have all the features available in the Baojun on offer and hence should make a good case for itself in terms of value for money. Would you guys like to see a version of the Chevrolet Groove/ Baojun 510 come to India?

  4. Hi Guys, I’m writing this after failing to get my car’s series of mysterious issues rectified. Patiently used my car for 2.5 years with all these issues with 2-3 visits to the service every month with temporary rectifications… since 26 June 14 more than 6 months’ car remains in service. GM/ KHT service are is unsure about the car status, they themselves are puzzled and unaware about the cause of so many technical issues in the car, they claims the car is a running product and will get spoilt and will be further repaired, In other words, will frequent service station and remain unreliable forever. I requested them to drive the car for a few thousand KMs and rectify the car completely. But though they had the car with them multiple times in the first 2 years of purchase and in spite of having it in their service for last complete 6 months, they neither drove the car nor they took any corrective step. They just threw a 2 yr extended warranty and ask me to keep visiting when issues arise. Car – Chevrolet Beat LS Diesel Bought – Jan 2012 Driven – 36000 kms, between Jan 2012 till 26 June 14 Registration – KA 02 MG 316, Bangalore Series of Mysterious Issues listed below – with struggle and solution. 1. So you don’t know, this is plastic smell”, so I promptly drove with the TOXIC AC REFRIGERANT LEAKING IN MY BRAND NEW CAR for another few thousands. iv. Unable to bear the toxic gas leak finally called the sales person (Raghavendra) who sold the car, he gave the contact of Mr. Naveen (service head Trident), Mr. Naveen (very busy with loads of cars from other old dealers who had closed selling Chevy had loaded at Trident service) told it’s fungus, and to switch off AC few min before parking car. v. Solution didn’t work - They asked show the smell when it was taken to service. But it never comes up when taken to service. vi. Many mails and finally asked Mr. Naveen to keep the car (full tanked) with him for his own personal daily use till he understood the problem; left the car at trident. Few days later I was told it would be rectified and after a few days of work on it, was told not to worry as the leaking evaporator or something was replaced. 2. Spanner light/ MIL coming once in a while a. Time – say it’s a Permanent gift by Chevy around 1st year end b. Since trident were not cooperative shifted to frontline , but still was not that comfortable, and tried KHT peenya service and settled there as I got some support . This issue of MIL was just once in a thousand kms. Was rectified as air filter issue or something, even then this issue were coming repeatedly but seen only for few mins, once in a month or so. 3. Tail lamp has water inside a. Water leakage into Tail lamp b. Tail Lamp Replaced done at KHT Peenya 4. Metal rubbing sound at front a. Time – an year after purchase b. Material ordered, 15 days later one more visit to get Front Shocks replaced. 5.MIL light became frequent a. After 1.5 years of purchase b. Visited KHT service multiple times to get this rectified, have lost lots of time and patience doing so. c. They reset the ECU many times by connecting the laptop, but issue never solved, as they could not diagnose. 6.Whistle sound on pressing of clutch when car moving. a. After 1.5 years of purchase alongside the MIL Light permanently SWITCHED ON (Sl. No.2 & 5) b. Reduces after 2 months, which is on frequent visits for MIL Light. 7.Car loses grunt/ Pickup on highway 60 kmph onwards, feels dead and powerless. a. I requested them to check the Turbo and replace if defective b. But they blame the electrical/ sensors 8. Vibration sound in dash top left and driver door. a. Time- since purchase b. Never been able to rectify c. Lived with it considering it being a 3 pot diesel d. Finally got resolved after 2 years 3 months when car was for in KHT for MIL and power loss 9. Engine light starts glowing alongside issues Sl. No. 2, 5 & 7. a. Time – 2 year 3 months after purchase b. The instrument console had turned to a disco light say a serial set, with car behaving weird synchronized with the warning lights blinking. c. KHT Peenya suspected it to be air sensor issue two months ago. Had visited the service and car was used very less to avoid any further damage till the sensor arrived at the service. Finally the sensor was replaced but in just a day again the issue came up as is. d. After another few visits - Next they suspect electrical problem, so they decided to replace the complete wiring harness. Item ordered. e. Happy that KHT at least responded and asked to give the vehicle again for service again for few days gave it for service again on 26th of June 14, after few days I got a call that the turbo hose, turbo metal hose will be changed and the Electrical Wiring Harness ordered but was not replaced (as I had suspected about turbo). The car is still (26 June 2014 to till date) in service, they seem to have changed further parts but they are still not clear that the car won’t get rid of its series of mysterious issues. over and above they now they say the oil service has to be done every 75000 kms unlike the earlier promise of 15000 kms looks like there is some serious issue in my car

  9. Chevrolet had stopped selling the Sail sedan and UVA earlier this month due to a problem in the 1.3 diesel motor. Chevy had also stopped the sales of the BSIII Tavera as well. These models experienced problems on the ‘Conformity of Production or confirmation of performance’ (COP) certification from ARAI when it inspected a few vehicles coming off the assembly lines and found the Tavera not meeting BS III emission norms. Similarly, the Sail engine was not able to achieve COP certification, experiencing quality issues in its engine. But now production is likely to be restarted according to Autocar Professional. 12. Chevrolet may not have achieved much success with its original mid-size saloon for India, the Aveo, but it could have just the product to change things. The car in question is the all-new Sail, the saloon version of the Sail U-VA hatchback launched some months ago. We drove the car near General Motors’ plant in Talegaon near Pune and came away quite impressed. As can be seen, the Sail looks identical to its hatchback sibling right up to the B pillar. That means the styling is conservative, though the combination of its split grille, upswept headlamps and rising beltline look pretty neat. But while the Sail U-VA isn’t too attractive from the rear, the Sail saloon manages to look quite smart, with the nicely arced roof flowing smoothly into the neatly integrated boot section. The Sail is a proper saloon in that respect, and doesn’t have the truncated look of the sub-four-metre Maruti Swift Dzire, which will be among its chief competitors. The rear wheels, however, look a tad too small, and the rear overhang is a bit too pronounced. Styling at the rear is neat and simple, with the large triangular tail-lamps helping to distinguish it from the other mid-sizers. Boot space is pretty impressive, and what helps further is that the loading bay is well shaped and can easily accommodate two large suitcases. Sadly, the loading lip is a tad too high, the sill is slightly narrow and the rear seats don’t flip forward like they do in the hatch. Access to the Sail’s cabin is really convenient thanks to the wide-opening doors, but once inside, there’s some disappointment. The interiors are unchanged from the U-VA, so what you get is a cabin that lacks the premium look or feel of some other cars in this class. Plastic quality is only decent and the beige tones in the cabin make the Sail look a bit dull on the inside. The dashboard doesn’t look like anything out of the ordinary, although the protruding centre console is smart in its own right. What takes some getting used to are the power window switches, which are awkwardly positioned in front of the gear lever, and the small digital tachometer. The lift-type door locks are a bit old-school too, and you’re also likely to rue the absence of steering-mounted audio controls even on the top LT spec cars. Top variant Sails do get an audio system with Bluetooth audio streaming and telephony, however. Front seat comfort on the whole is good (though there’s no driver seat height adjustment or dead pedal), and visibility is nice too. Rear seat occupants will like the space on offer. There’s good knee room and headroom is also sufficient for anyone under six feet tall. What’s nice is that Chevrolet has softened the seat back cushion (a complaint on the Sail U-VA) and this has greatly enhanced comfort. As with the U-VA, the Sail comes with its fuel tank under the front seats, and this creates a natural footrest for the rear passengers – whether or not you like it is a matter of taste. This layout has also freed up some storage space under the rear seat, enough for a couple of soft bags. All in all, the Sail scores quite well in terms of space for smaller items, with a total of six bottle-holders (including two in the rear centre armrest) and a large recess just ahead of the gear lever. Like the hatchback version, the Sail is available with a 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.3-litre diesel engine. We drove the 85bhp, 1.2 Smartech-equipped Sail first and liked the engine for its top-range pep. It’s a motor that’s quite comfortable at part throttle, but is unquestionably at its best in the 4000-6000rpm band. However, the engine is quite noisy and the sound gets quite intrusive above 3000rpm. What also takes away from the experience is the snappy, long-travel clutch. The five-speed gearbox on the petrol is also not that precise and is rubbery to use. The Sail diesel proved to be more impressive. The engine is the same 1.3 Multijet used on a wide array of cars in India, and in the Sail comes with a fixed-geometry turbo to produce 77bhp. Chevrolet’s engineers have done a great job to smoothen this engine’s power delivery. There’s decent power off boost, and even when the turbo comes in at around 2000rpm, the power doesn’t come in sharply like in a Dzire. The build of power is gradual and helps make the Sail easy to drive in city conditions. The smooth-shifting gearbox and fairly well-weighted clutch only help matters. Mid-range performance is good too, though the Sail doesn’t seem to have quite as much top-end grunt as the Dzire. We liked the Sail’s steering for the minimal effort it required at parking speeds, but were quite disappointed by how disconnected it felt when we ventured onto the highway. Surprisingly, straight-line stability is also not all that good, and calls for a firm hand on the wheel at all times. The petrol car’s steering does offer a little more by way of feedback, but even then it’s not really entertaining to drive. There’s plenty of roll around corners too. But if not for handling, you’ll definitely like the Sail for its ride quality. The suspension easily absorbs the worst of our potholes, while the 175/70 R14 tyres do a nice job of smoothening out smaller imperfections. It really is one of the best riding saloons around. On the whole, the Sail come across as a pretty interesting product. It looks smart, has a spacious cabin and a useable boot, and really impressive ride quality. In diesel avatar, the Sail seems well suited to city use and promises to deliver on the fuel economy front too, with an ARAI-test figure of 22.1kpl. The petrol Sail is not bad on this front either, with a claimed fuel economy of 18.2kpl. Were the petrol motor more refined and the cabin better finished, the Sail would have been an excellent all rounder. The problem is the Sail is up against some very stiff competition from the Maruti Swift Dzire, Mahindra Verito, Toyota Etios and Tata Manza. But if Chevrolet can price the Sail between Rs 6 lakh for the base petrol model and Rs 7.5 lakh for the top-end diesel, it could just have itself its first big mid-size saloon success.
  13. After cutting prices recently, Chevrolet has added a base variant to its 1.3L TCDi powered Sail U-VA Diesel. The base diesel is priced at Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi); that's a Rs. 1.1 lakh over the base petrol variant. I think this is a good move considering the U-VA hasnt really taken off. A base diesel might find its way with the yellow plate guys. This should do well as a fleet car or tourist vehicle.
  14. The Aveo U-VA never really took off when it was launched. It was a very ordinary car with dull interiors and poor plastics. Wasnt fun to drive either so eventually it failed to gather a good sales figure for GM in India. Now Chevy is back in a second innings with an all new hatchback the Sail U-VA. (The 'Sail' name reminds one of the Opel Corsa hatchback) It is actually going to be the first locally produced and re engineered for India Chinese car. From the pictures, the looks are not very modern or new age . It looks just like an ordinary hatch. The same can be said about the interiors. However the Sail is going to come with the option of a diesel engine which was missed in the Aveo U-VA. No prizes for guessing what powerplant it will use. Yes, its our National engine the Fiat 1.3 MJD. The petrol will have a 1.2 liter unit. With competitors like the Swift, Figo, Liva and the Micra, the Sail will surely have its work cut out. Do you think the Sail hatch will bring in the volumes for Chevrolet, something which the predecessor couldnt? Or will it turn out to be another sales dud?
  15. Hi There is little or no buzz about Sail Sedan.....yet I find that car somehow appealing. So when is it expected to launch and what will be its on road price? It it going to compete with entry level sedans(Etios...Verito...Dzire) or a little higher ones(Vento....Verna..etc) Sail Hatch starts at 5.3 lakh(on road-Mumbai) according to autocar so how much extra would its sedan version cost? My assumption 70k more for sedan version If launched at starting price(on-road) of 6lakh, sounds a perfect VFM Your Views please Live long and prosper!
  16. Hi Guys, Can anyone please tell me; is there any difference between Optra Magnum diesel LT 2007 and 2012 model (other than automatic climate control)? Any help will be appreciated. Thank You.
  17. Hi, I am planning to buy a new Diesel D-Segment Sedan... Well the choices are many like - Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra Chevrolet Cruze Toyota Corolla Altis Skoda Laura Volkswagen Jetta Renault Fluence But out of these I shortlisted the following: Hyundai Elantra 1.6L CRDI SX (M/T) 14.85 lakhs Chevrolet Cruze 2.0L VCDI LTZ (M/T) 14.77 lakhs Toyota Corolla Altis 1.4L D-4D 15.3 lakhs *ex showroom Delhi Now there were initially only the first two cars which i like but seeing the brand reliability of toyota, i considered Altis... VW and Skoda are too expensive and featureless and Fluence too is price and styling is too french which i dont like... From the above three which car should i go for? Main criteria: Fuel Efficiency, Features, Space & Comfort... Chevrolet cruze because of the sunroof has a headroom issue for which seats need to be lowered as its not comfy else... Elantra appeals by its style, features and tremendous space inside while altis is too old and dull... Also Elantra pampers me with ventilated seats, bluetooth & hell lots of features along with safety... Cruze offers less than elantra but one good feature i.e sunroof which creates headroom problem and altis looks too plain... Also i am wondering that many say cruze fuel efficiency is quite low around 10-12 in city... Which one should i go for?
  18. Guess this is the first ever undisguised image of the updated Spark. Styling is clearly inspired from the EV concept shown at the auto expo but somehow that looked better than this one. I find this personally a bit over done. Source:
  19. Chevrolet has launched the new Captiva with a facelift and a new engine as well starting at Rs. 18.74 lakhs. However the new 2.2 litre 186.5 bhp diesel will be available on the AWD Automatic only and that comes at Rs. 24.59 lakhs Ex Showroom Delhi. I have always liked the Captiva as a car but somehow I feel this new one is a tad overpriced. Cant wait to try it out though. What do you guys feel? Will the new Captiva work at this price?
  20. Folks, which is the best budget hatch currently available in the country? The Tata Nano 2012 or the long-in-the-tooth Alto and Spark? I personally like the K10 and the way it drives but the interior and the 1990s styling now look a bit boring as compared to the fashionable new Eon which is again an okayish car with poor driving dynamics. What's your say?
