  3. Volkswagen is readying another update to its ageing Polo and Vento range in the Indian market. This time, the refreshed Polo will not get just cosmetic tweaks, but will also see mechanical changes. A new set of images surfaced online give us the best look at the upcoming Polo and Vento. First up, the updated cars get new front styling which is quite similar to the high-performance limited edition Volkswagen GTI hatchback. Additionally, both cars get alloy wheels with grey finish and other minor cosmetic tweaks inside out. Under the hood, the TSI variants of the Polo and Vento will get a new BS-VI compliant 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit replacing the 1.2-litre motor and also the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine. The new VW 1.0-litre TSI motor is from the EA211 series and is likely to come with a 94hp as well as a 115hp version, depending on the model. Apart from the Polo and Vento, this new engine will also see duty on the Skoda Rapid in future. This new engine will be locally assembled in India as part of the brand’s India 2.0 strategy that also includes market introduction of future models like the Volkswagen T-Cross SUV and the Virtus sedan. While the made-for India SUVs from VW Group India (T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq) will use the 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine, the smaller 1.0-litre TSI motor will power the Volkswagen Virtus sedan that will come a little later to replace the Vento. What are your opinions on the Volkswagen Polo/ Vento update?
  4. Hello I own a VW vento diesel highline (MT) for the past 3 years, I have been using stock apollo tyres that came with the car. I have clocked 57,000 kms. Now, that they have worn out, especially the shoulder lines, I would like your advice on choosing a good tyre. In highways, the rumble is audible, so dad wants to switch to Bridgestone but I would like to stick with the Apollo. I want to know which tyre has relatively longer life. Use - 70% city, 25% highway, 5% off road. Also, which is better for my car model and tyre, air or nitrogen? Kindly assist me in choosing the right brand & also the right dimensions. Thanks

  7. A very dear friend of mine bought a new Volkswagen Polo GT recently and since hes a hard core Audiophile he decided to get a custom install done in the car. He was happy enough to share it with me and I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread on his installation which could be useful to other members in the future. So here goes..a detailed pictorial of the installation process Focal Utopia Be (Berylium series) 165W-RC component speakers ready to be shipped Dynamat Xtreme damping mat lines up the door panel to seal off any acoustic leaks Endorsed by Chip Foose! 8. Looks like Volkswagen is taking the emerging markets seriously by coming up with suitable products. The Up! which you see here has been caught on test by Car & Driver Brazil. It seems that VW is developing the extended wheelbase Up! at the Taubate facility situated in Brazil. When Car & Driver compared the images of the test mule to that of the international variant, it was found that the Brazilian Up! boasts of a much higher ground clearance than its European cousin. Furthermore, VW has also changed the design of the windscreen to give the cabin an airy feeling. The wheelbase of the car was also measured using the images and it was found that the Brazilian Up! has an additional 2cm when compared to the European version. However, it is believed that the final production model may have an added wheelbase of 3cm to better accommodate the rear passengers. Could this be the perfect Up! for India? 9. The DSG gearbox used in all VW cars (skoda, audi, vw) has some serious issues - it is irrepairable! The smallest problem with it and you have to replace the entire gearbox. The ATF oil cooler in my 2006 Laura leaked after they changed the tranmission fluid because my car had done 65000 km. Obviously the leakage can not be attributed directly to the oil change but the net result was that the car started giving a shudder when moving off from a standstill position. The problem did not go away after the skoda dealership replaced the oil cooler and left me with a 30,000 rupee hole in my wallet. After spending 2 weeks in trying to figure out the problem the answer was that Skoda has no solution for the problem and recommends that the gearbox be changed. Cost of gearbox: Rs.5.5 lacs! this is more than the current market price of the car. On doing some net search I was shocked to find that the DSG gearbox has acquired quite a notorious reputation worldwide. To save their reputation, in China VW has now offered an extended warranty of 10years on the DSG gearboxes. But what about India? Another point, how come one never reads about such things in Autocar magazine or any other auto mag in India?
