Spy shots: New 2014 Mercedes S Class extra long wheel base

Recommended Posts

Came across these shots of what is the extra long wheel base S Class.

The new generation of the S Class is set to receive a new longer version that will have a stretched wheelbase to provide even more room for rear passengers. The current S-Class LWB on sale today is 5246mm long while this XL version will be approximately 200mm longer and will keep the same 2+2 seating arrangement. The the third side window will be positioned after the rear doors, as opposed to the standard and LWB versions which have the third side window in the rear door section.

A source close to Mercedes-Benz indicates the S-Class Maybach will be unveiled in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Maybach was phased out in 2012 but it will allegedly be revived not as a brand but as a nameplate for an extra-long wheelbase version of the S-Class. This new iteration of Mercedes-Benz's flagship sedan will have a 200mm longer wheelbase than the current LWB (3165mm wheelbase) and will try to attract very wealthy customers (especially in China) who would normally purchase a Bentley or a Rolls-Royce.

Based on recent spy videos, Mercedes-Benz will apply the Maybach treatment at least on the V12-powered S600 and S65 AMG versions.

It won't be the only moniker to be resurrected by the German marque as there will also be an even longer Pullman version which according to the same source will cost about 1M USD in the armored-plated variant. Set to have a 2+2+2 seating arrangement, it will mostly target politicians and will have its wheelbase stretched by one meter compared to the standard S-Class (3035mm wheelbase).

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman has been spied for the first time and it seems it was an armoured variant.

The vehicle was spotted by a BILD reader in front of Brabus' factory in Bottrop, Germany and apparently it was the V12-powered S600 version. It will allegedly be 6.4 meters (252 inches) long and the armored version seen here will tip the scales at 5,300 kg (11,684 lbs). It will be able to withstand continuous fire, hand grenades and explosions thanks to its armored steel body panels as well as the other changes normally found in such a niche vehicle.

The armored Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman will probably have a 2+2+2 seating layout
