pajero sport or the fortuner

Recommended Posts

Hello guys some of you may remember me from my Audi A6 thread , the car now has long joined the family and is doing well . Now that being said i want to purchase an SUV that can do long highway trips without much problem , i have shortlisted the Toyota Fortuner and the Mitsubushi Pjero Sports .

I have test driven the pajero sports and loved its ride and steering , i loved the way you sit having a clear view of the road , i even liked the interiors which are much more better than the Toyota Fortuner . Now for the downside it does not have an AT transmission , iam not so sure about mitsubushi either , if they will operate or leave in the distant future

Now for the Fortuner it looks good no doubt IMO better than the pajero , its a bit wide as well , it has an AT transmission . I know for sure Toyota is here to stay , though the ride is not that accurate and is bumpy .

I for one wont be doing serious off roading , but it should be able to withstand our highways without much trouble

Now for the main thing . When will the new Toyota Fortuner come into india ?

is Mitsubushi planing to introduce a new Pajero Sport if so when ?

I dont want to be stuck with an SUV that will have a new model within two years my deciding factor is this

Please give your valued inputs on this matter and help me chose

Thank You

If you have to choose between these two.. Well, i'd say.. Go for the Fortuner, mate!

While Mitsubishi has been in India for a considerable amount of time now, it still hasn't made its presence felt.

Moreover, a year back or so they decided to withdraw their sedan lineup and talked about focusing exclusively on their SUV segment.

But I don't think that has in any way helped them improve sales!

I won't be really surprised if (in years to come) they decide to wrap up all of their Indian operations and leave.

Other than that.. Unavailability of spare parts in smaller cities and towns and lower resale value are two big deterrents from what is an otherwise really good SUV.

Two years seem to be a bit of a long shot.

I don't think Toyota would bring an upgraded version so soon. Having said that, i am not entirely certain about it!

Meaning, Toyota may or may not. But its unlikely.

As you said you aren't looking for a true blue off roader and from your description above I guess you are looking for an SUV that offers good ride quality.

If that is the case, I would suggest you to wait for a few days as the Next Gen Hyundai SantaFe is to be launched probably in the month of February. It would be priced similar to the Fortuner, a bit here or there but not a considerable difference.

Unlike the existing car, this one would be great to look at, would have really good interiors and would come with an automatic option as well. Downside being it might come only as a five seater, even if it comes as a seven sweater the last row of seats would be really short on legroom.

I would still suggest you to consider it, because it looks promising!

Let us know about your purchase.

gto,

thank's for your kind reply but i'am down with hyundai , i bought an hyundai i20 once it rattles from every where and is only used in the city .

I would be purchasing the car pretty soon maybe by mid of feb . I would be taking a road trip to Rajesthan so ride quality is a must but also safety

A new facelifted version of the Toyota Fortuner is out in Thailand will it make a way into India any time soon ?

100% agree with Shashank_GTO here.

You want a vehicle which provides good ride quality and safety, wait for the upcoming Santa Fe. It has great and quality features. The new Santa Fe is expected to be priced at about Rs 22 lakh for the entry-level two wheel drive diesel version with both MT and AT options. And the 4x4 will be provided with only AT.

This problem is now solved in the igen i20.

Welcome Raj! Thanks LeoRahi!

Well Raj, I haven't seen the facelifted version yet.

As I said.. Two years is bit of a long shot.. It ain't coming in 2014 atleast!

If you do not wish to wait for the facelifted SantaFe, then the Fortuner would be a great choice!

GTO,

I never paid any attention when we bought our first gen toyota fortuner but today i was comparing the fortuner with the sports and the carwale site is showing that fortuner comes without ABS and EBD systems is this true ?

Raj, that is not true!

Following is the link to Autocar India's review:

http://www.autocarindia.com/auto-reviews/toyota-fortuner-review-test-drive-293898.aspx

In this review in the third to last paragraph, in the last statement, it has been clearly mentioned that, 'Hit the brakes hard at 80 and, with help from the ABS system the new Fortuner comes to a dead halt in 24.6 metres, a full four metres shorter than the earlier car.' thus indicating presence of an ABS system.

I also checked it with information displayed on Zigwheels website. Under Specifications > Features > Safety and Security, there are ticks against ABS, EBD, ESP, Airbags etc.

Here is the link: http://www.zigwheels.com/newcars/Toyota/Fortuner/4x2-AT-(5-Speed)

Just to be on the safer side, I visited Toyota Fortuner's official website and it says that the Fortuner offers ABS with EBD & Brake Assist. But EBD and Brake Assist are available only on the 4WD MT variant, whereas ABS is a standard equipment on all the variants.

Here is the link: http://www.toyotabharat.com/cars/new_cars/in_fortuner/specification. aspx

I hope i've cleared your doubt. :)

I believe, if maintained properly, serviced regularly and taken proper care of, both cars would enjoy a phenomenal shelf life.

I recently drove a friend's Toyota Qualis from Khed (a village in Maharashtra) all the way to Mumbai. This car was 10 years old and had a figure of 4 lakh plus on the odo!

Because of its age and the wear, I was a bit worried about it breaking down midway. But, at the end of the journey the car proved me wrong. It was great to drive and i faced no problems what so ever.

I never felt as if i was driving a car that was a decade old, one which had travelled the distance equivalent to that between the earth and the moon.

That itself says a lot!

The Innova, even after being the most expensive car in its segment still sells like hot cakes especially among tourist taxi operators mainly because of its reliability!

I asked one operator why they've spent that extra bit of money buying an Innova, whereas a Xylo could've saved them a lakh or two..?

He replied saying, 'Sahab, itne salo se tourist taxi chala rahe hai, aaj tak kisi innova ko raste k kinare band pade nahi dekha!'

Its just the reliability of a Toyota made car that makes them so popular!

Fortuner, I believe, is no different!

Do you follow Top Gear UK..? Have you seen the program where they try to destroy a Toyota Hilux..?

If no, I would recommend you to watch it. Google it or search for it on Youtube, you'll surely find it.

It just talks volumes about Toyota's built quality!

As for the Mitsubishi!! Everyone knows about its rigidity and reliability.

May it be the Pajero in Dakar Rally or the Lancer Evo in WRC.

But looking at it in the Indian context (service network, availability of spare parts, etc.) Toyota looks to be a better pick among the two.

I hope that answers your first question!

Well Raj.. I browsed the net a li'l.. And found this out..

Mitsubishi is planning to launch a facelifted version of the Pajero Sport next year i.e. 2015.

It has already been launched in Australia!

Here are my sources:

http://www.monterosportonline.net?p=944#more-944

http://www.cartoq.com/all-new-mitsubishi-pajero-sport-in-2015/

http://indianautosblog.com/2013/09/2014-mitsubishi-pajero-sport-facelift-australia-94379

http://www.motoroids.com/mitsubishi-2/mitsubishi-pajero-sport/facelifted-2014-mitsubishi-pajero-launched-australia/

http://allcars2014.com/2014-mitsubishi-pajero-sport-facelift-and-price/

Also I've read the news about the facelifted Fortuner.

According to my sources (links given below) the facelifted Fortuner would be coming to India by early 2016!

Sources:

http://www.business-standard.com/article/news-cd/toyota-s-plan-for-the-2014-indian-auto-expo-113110900489_1.html

http://www.toyotacarsindia.in/2013/10/new-toyota-fortuner-2014-india.html

http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/toyota-fortuner-cars/2014-toyota-fortuner-facelift-launched-in-indonesia/

So ya, to answer your second question, facelifted Pajero Sport would be launched in 2015 and the facelifted Fortuner in 2016.

Have the same Dilemma, waiting for Auto-expo, Pajero Sport Automatic is set to make the debu. I know Fortuner makes sense but a Pajero is a Pajero, its like a cult figure.

Anyways waiting patiently for auto-expo, Ford is also getting all new Endeavor plus renault might also offer some goodie discount on Koleos :P
