BMW's latest innovation, the i8 Electric Hybrid Supercar finally made its debut at the Auto Expo. However, it might take about a year before this car actually gets launched! The hybrid sports car features a stretched out bonnet with pronounced grille, low stance and sporty bumper line along with various other exciting styling elements. Surely an eyeball catcher from BMW!

Renault unveiled the KWID concept. The company says "KWID concept highlights both Renault's commitment to new markets, such as India, as well as the company's ability to produce appealing products in the compact car segment. The vehicle's robust, yet fun design, along with its technology-driven features, is targeted at meeting the needs of young customers in these markets."

The KWID concept was designed with inputs from Renault Design India and is covered by the 'Explore' petal of Renault's lifecycle-based design strategy. The KWID measures 1,940 mm wide and 3,620 mm in length. The KWID's exterior is offset by a robust appearance due to its protective guards and chunky wings, it gets short overhangs and oversized wheels that protrude past the fenders and make the KWID look like a buggy car.

The KWID is powered by the latest-generation downsized 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a dual-clutch transmission. Other technology features include electric operated front bench seat on a central rail, electric opening doors, LED lighting and command keys next to the steering. The vertically-mounted TFT touchscreen display acts as a dashboard and provides access to connected services.

The interior of the KWID concept is inspired by a bird's nest. The vehicle's seats, suspended over a solid base in white, give an impression of lightness, while their 2-tone elastomer material provides a sense of brightness.

The Redi-GO is a concept unveiled by Datsun, based on the same platform as the Go and Go+ and like them, the Redi-Go is a sub 4 meter car, but it will have a higher ground clearance. It is expected to make its debut in 2015.

It will have similar interiors, as the Go hatchback. Chances are the Redi-Go will not come with a 5+2 seating option like the Go+. Even though these last two seats are impractical for fully grown adults, seven seats are always a high selling point.

The Redi-Go will be powered by the same petrol engine and manual gearbox as the Go hatchback and Go+ Mini MPV. The engine is a 1.2-litre petrol mated to a 5-speed gearbox. There will be no diesel to begin with however. Datsun says, the priority here is to keep the vehicle affordable to go along with the Access bit in its Dream Access Trust (DAT) philosophy. And a diesel, currently, doesn't allow this.

Mumbai-based custom bike maker Vardenchi and Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Morini had announced their partnership at the EICMA show in Milan last year. The 2014 Auto Expo will also serve as the launch pad for the Moto Morini brand in India.

Initially, Vardenchi will sell two bikes from Italian range – namely the Scrambler and the Gran Passo.

post-50246-0-04164800-1391758120.jpg

The Scrambler looks particularly well-suited to India. The all-terrain bike features Morini’s 1187cc V-twin engine that puts out 118bhp of power.

post-50246-0-05360600-1391758144.jpg

The second offering in India will be the Gran Passo. It’s an adventure bike the size of a BMW R1200GS. It features Morini’s 118bhp, 1187cc V-twin and comes with top-spec kit such as Marzocchi upside-down forks, an Ohlins monoshock, a slipper clutch and Brembo disc brakes front and rear.

The two bikes were on display at the Vardenchi stall wooing everyone who passed by. The Moto Morinis are currently going through homologation in India and should be ready to be booked by September 2014. Once you’ve place your bookings for these bikes priced between Rs. 24-26 lakh, these Italian beauties would take two months to be imported and delivered.

On the other hand the partnership will entitle Moto Morini to market the latest Vardenchi line-up in Europe.

Both the models will be imported as CBU’s and prices for the Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 motorcycle starts at Rs. 14.5 lakhs, while the the Granpasso 1200 is priced at Rs. 17.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will be launched in India later this year. The company is thinking of giving a separate battery pack with the scooter. However the cost for the battery pack, Rs 65-70,000 is a deterrent as of now.

Soon after Hero and Honda parted ways from its 25 year old alliance, the former soon found solace with Erik Buell Racing (EBR) and the influence has been quite evident in the concepts and upcoming products unveiled this year at the Auto Expo (check out the HX250R and Hastur). Hero Motorcorp showcased EBR’s flagship product the EBR 1190 superbike at the 2014 Auto Expo.

There are two models of the EBR 1190 namely the RX and RS versions. The styling on the flagship EBR 1190 RX is aggressive showing its motorsport credentials. The superbike gets single headlight unit with M shaped Daytime running LED lights. The nose-down tail-up design is visible on the side profile, while the fully faired body completes the superbike stance. The 1190 gets light-weight star-shaped alloys, high rising exhaust and a chunky tank that compliment the fully faired body of the bike.

The EBR 1190 RX model featured a strike yellow paint job. The motorcycle is powered by the 1190cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, V-Twin engine capable of producing 185 BHP of power at 10,600 RPM and 137.8 Nm of torque. The bike gets an aluminium frame with a Showa inverted big piston front forks and single shock without linkage at the rear. Braking power comes from an 8-piston, 386 mm disc in front and 220 mm disc with 2-pistons brakes calliper at the rear sourced from Hayes Performance.

Maruti has just displayed the WagonR XREST at the 2014 Auto Expo. This is a modified version of the regular Wagon R and we are absolutely in love with it. The Wagon R XREST looks much much better than the normal version which looks just like a box on wheels. The brown paint job, black cladding et al make the Wagon R look very butch now.

The grille, bumpers, headlights all have been redesigned and Maruti has added detail to the ORVMs too. The new headlights looks really good and the company should surely offer all these modifications as optional with the vehicle. But knowing Maruti, we know that they will not launch any of these versions but just churn out “Limited Editions” that come with cheesy graphics. The Maruti Wagon R is powered by a 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine and it is available in three variants – LX, LXi and VXi.post-56743-0-80381900-1391782222_thumb.jpost-56743-0-56491500-1391782251_thumb.jpost-56743-0-64596400-1391782265_thumb.jpost-56743-0-35723800-1391782275_thumb.jpost-56743-0-62780000-1391782295_thumb.jpost-56743-0-88322400-1391782332_thumb.j

Maruti Displayed the Swift Sport

Maruti has satisfied all of us enthusiasts by showcasing the Suzuki Swift Sport which is a true hot hatch. It is a sportier and performance-oriented version of the regular Swift which is also not bad in dynamics. The Swift Sport which they have displayed here at the 2014 Auto Expo looks absolutely smashing in that yellow shade we must add.

The Suzuki Swift Sport is powered by a 1.6-litre VTVT engine which gives out 135 PS of power. This is not at all bad for a hatchback. The interiors come with rally-inspired upholstery, steering-mounted Bluetooth controls and USB and iPod integration. Suzuki has also added a cruise control feature which can come in useful when one feels like driving sedately on the highway.

Maruti Displayed the new Grand Vitara Luxion

Oh Grand Vitara! We had forgotten that this vehicle still exists! Maruti has perceived itself as a cheap-car brand and hence premium vehicles like Grand Vitara and Kizashi hardly sell. The company has now displayed the Grand Vitara Luxion at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Luxion is a highly customized version of the Grand Vitara.

The shiny red and black colour combination suits the Grand Vitara. The chrome strips that Maruti has added at various places on the vehicle might appeal to some but we are not sure about it. The alloy wheels are silver but we feel that gunmetal shade would have looked much better. The grille and bumpers are also redesigned but overall not many changes to the vehicle. The Maruti Grand Vitara is powered by a 2.4-litre J series petrol engine producing 163.5 BHP of power and 225 Nm of torque and two transmission options are available – AT and MT.

Maruti Ertiga Altair

Maruti Suzuki has now displayed the Ertiga Altair at the 2014 Auto Expo and we are mighty impressed. Why is it that Maruti comes up with some tasteful modifications at times and some quirky and weird ones most of the time? The Ertiga is one of the best compact MPVs and this Altair version only increases its appeal.

The shiny dark red paint job gels well with the Ertiga’s design. Maruti has done a good thing by adding the black headlights which look striking. The tail lights look like they have been lifted from the 2014 Honda City but hold your horses, these are not tail lights but just plastic extensions which are stuck on the boot. Overall, a good design by Maruti. The Ertiga is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre diesel enginepost-56743-0-69568800-1391783242_thumb.jpost-56743-0-83142800-1391783268_thumb.jpost-56743-0-38892900-1391783297_thumb.jpost-56743-0-49095900-1391783317_thumb.j

Maruti Displays Ritz Jubilo

The Maruti Ritz has always been a very good hatchback but it didn’t get its due because of its awkward rear design. Maruti has tried to increase the appeal of the Ritz by displaying the Ritz Jubilo at the 2014 Auto Expo. The vehicle looks very good after the modifications but the only thing that goes against it are the body graphics.

The headlights look futuristic, fog lamp holders are well-designed and the choice of alloy wheels is good too. Maruti has also added skirtings to both the bumpers as well as the side. The Maruti Ritz is powered by 1.2-litre and 1.3-litre petrol and diesel engines respectively. Like always, this is just a showcase and nothing will ever come to production.

The Celerio replaces the Ritz in many global markets where the latter is known as the Splash. However in India, Maruti Suzuki will continue to sell the Ritz for like eternity. The Jubilo name might sound funny but the accessories on it should be offered as after market items for purchase at dealerships at a reasonable price.

Piaggio showcased the Vespa S

Piaggio showcased the Vespa S (Sport) scooter at the 2014 Auto Expo that will be added to the Indian lineup later this year. The Vespa S will be positioned above the Vespa VX 125 when launched and has a sporty exterior design to distinguish from the VX model. Piaggio has also showcased the upcoming Vespa 946 along with performance bikes from Moto Guzzi and Aprilia at its pavilion.

The Vespa S gets a distinguishably different exterior design giving it the sporty character. The squared off headlight cluster and wing mirrors give it a sporty front; whereas the curves are mildly toned down on the sides for a meatier appearance. The rear retains classic Italian styling, but the taillight has been positioned higher on the Sport. The Vespa S gets a redesigned analogue instrument cluster with a retro touch; however the Indian variant does not get the Check Engine light and the Oil Indicator light. The Sport gets an exposed glovebox opposed to a closed one seen on the Vespa VX. Completing the look is the front suspension coil painted in read and the black powder coated 3-spoke alloy wheels for a sporty appearance.

The mechanicals for the Vespa S are carried from the Vespa VX as well. The Sport is built on a monocoque steel chassis and is powered by a 125cc 3-valve single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that produces 10.06 HP of power and 10.06 Nm of torque mated to a CVT transmission. The front uses single-side hydraulic suspension, while a monoshock setup is used at the rear. The Vespa Sport has been equipped tubeless tyres and gets front disc brake as standard.

Piaggio hasn’t revealed the price on the Sport as yet. The scooter will be positioned between the Vespa VX and the range topping 946 in the lineup. Expect the prices to start at Rs. 80,000/- (ex-showroom) for the Vespa Sport, when launched in the country.

Maruti Displayed the Modified Swift Volt

Maruti has just displayed the Swift Volt which is a modified version of the regular Swift. The exteriors are draped in a combination of white paint and black graphics. The roof and C-pillar are painted in red and the overall colour combination looks good but it might not be fancied by those who prefer something discrete.

Maruti has also added a rear spoiler and both the bumpers have been redesigned to resemble a race car. The side skirts also lend appeal to the Swift. The wheel arches have been beefed up a little to show the car’s sporty intentions. The interiors come flanked with race seats. The Maruti Suzuki Swift is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine and the vehicle is available in six variants – LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi and ZXi/ZDi.

This was the worst expo ever. The crowd was even worse and i am having full body ache right now. It took me 6hrs to just go through the half of the stalls. The people at Jaguar stall were very rude and didn't allow me to go in. Though i will be uploading the pics by tomorrow.

Hero displayed the Updated Karizma R

Hero MotoCorp showcased the updated Karizma R and ZMR with cosmetic upgrades at the 2014 Auto Expo. The 2014 Karizma gets updated with Hero’s new EBR inspired design language. Underneath the Karizma is still the same motorcycle, which is evident since the tank design and the instrument cluster from the previous model have been carried forward on this version as well. The older model came with a 223cc, single-cylinder engine but power and torque has been bumped up with the R now producing 19.2 BHP while the ZMR now outputs 20 BHP.

The front facia has been completely changed and the single headlamp unit is now replaced with a vertical headlight cluster, like that on the EBR 1190 RS and gets twin lamps at the sides with Daytime running LED lights. The R variant retains the half-fairing with a bolder ‘R’ moniker and the engine cowl gets a new design and is now body coloured as well. The Karizma ZMR on the other hand gets a leaner fully-faired body. It looks sportier than before and less like a tourer. The rear design has been raised to an acute angle shooting upwards for a sportier appeal and also gets split seats. The rear also gets updated with new silver finished grab handles and a new tail light design.

We expect Hero MotoCorp to make a formal announcement on the pricing of the bikes in the coming weeks. These bikes will replace the existing Karizmas while the HX250R will be launched in September, sitting above the ZMR in Hero’s vast portfolio.

Maruti OMNI CAFE

The Maruti Omni has been selling for decades now and it has seen many applications such as personal car, taxi, ambulance, etc. Now Maruti wants the Omni to be a mobile cafe by displaying the Omni Cafe at the 2014 Auto Expo. The rear of the Omni Cafe comes with a mini-kitchen with all the essentials like a fridge and griller and the back seat is adjustable and can be moved around to increase space.

Other modifications include the usual stuff like new bumpers and body-cladding. This is not the first time Maruti Suzuki has showcased a cafe themed Omni, at the last Auto Expo, the company had the Omni Cuppa Joy on display. The Maruti Omni is powered by a 800cc petrol engine producing 33.3 PS of power and 57 Nm of torque. Just imagine when modern cars like the Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai i10 failed to clear crash tests, how will the Omni fare, a vehicle which dates back to the 1980s.

Maruti Alto 800 Browzer

Maruti Suzuki has just displayed the Alto 800 Browzer at the 2014 Auto Expo and trust us it is not an internet browser. What Maruti wants to convey with this vehicle is that it can be used for travelling to any part of the country with your loved ones. How can a vehicle with a small boot and only cosmetic changes like body-cladding, bumper skirts and body graphics be more capable than its regular counterpart?

The Alto 800 Browzer comes with only cosmetic changes which hardly add any value to the car. It is powered by an F8D 800cc petrol engine producing 48 PS of power and 67 Nm of torque. The Alto has been India’s best-selling cars for a while now and it is typical of Maruti to come up with quirky names for their special edition vehicles. This might not go on sale because any sane person won’t buy it for the utility which Maruti claims! Other features include a physical map system (no need of relying on digital maps anymore) but that requires you to get out of your car for searching your destination on the doors of this Browzer.

Maruti Eeco Piknik

Maruti Suzuki has displayed the Eeco Piknik at the 2014 Auto Expo. This is aimed at families who want to travel to places by road and want to carry a good amount of luggage along with them. The regular Eeco is a very boring looking car and hence Maruti has tried its best to improve the design of the Eeco by displaying the Eeco Piknik.

The company has blackened out all the three pillars and hence the vehicle looks longer now. Door handles are also black. Both the bumpers have been given a new design and the front grille is new too. Overall, we feel that even though this doesn’t look too smashing, it still feels better than the regular Eeco. The Maruti Eeco is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 73 BHP of power and 101 Nm of torque.

Don’t you think Maruti Suzuki should discontinue the Omni and replace it with the Eeco permanently? The Eeco isn’t a revolutionary car but is practical and much better than the Omni. A diesel engine could make it very viable as a cheap people mover.

Maruti SX4 Sport

Maruti Suzuki has just displayed the modified SX4 Sport at the 2014 Auto Expo. At first glance, the SX4 Sport looks quirky in true Maruti style. The bright blue paint job and yellow accents might look good but we have no words for those black graphics. The alloy wheels are lip-smacking though. The fog lamp housing at the front looks nicely designed and so is the new grille.

Rest of the changes are to the bumpers which are redesigned. The roof scoop might look good and makes the SX4 Sport look like a rally vehicle but we are in two minds about it. The rear spoiler could have also been better in design but then again this vehicle would be preferred by those who like something flashy. The Maruti SX4 is powered by a 1.6-litre VVT engine with petrol and CNG options and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine.

Maruti Suzuki will replace the SX4 with the Ciaz in the second half of the year. The SX4 was off to a fantastic start but couldn’t match the Honda City’s pedigree in the segment. With the Ciaz, Maruti is hoping to make a dent in sales of its C-segment rivals. The SX4 will be dicontinunied but the crossover version (SX4 S-Cross) is under consideration for launch in India next year.

Piaggio Brings Style To India With Vespa 946

Piaggio is getting serious about its Indian operations and that’s quite evident at the 2014 Auto Expo where the company is currently showcasing its entire India specific portfolio. The motorcycles on display are from world class brands like Vespa, Moto Guzzi and Aprilia at its stall. While the RSV4 is getting all the flashes; the uber stylish Vespa 946 scooter is the one garnering everyone’s attention. The Italian manufacturer is betting big on these models to make their presence felt in the Indian two-wheeler market.

The Vespa 946 is an amalgamation of retro style and modern technology. The scooter takes its design cues from the very first 1946 Vespa, also what the 946 stands for. The flagship Vespa comes with sophisticated Italian style, smooth curves and an attractive floating seat. The 946 is also the first model from the Vespa range to use aluminium in the design. You also get leather handle grips with stitching to the fine polish. Every premium component on the 946 has been assembled by hand. In terms of modern technology, the 946 gets an LCD instrument cluster, LED headlamps and tail lights. The scooter also boasts of a host of safety features like front and rear disc brakes, ABS, ASR (Anti-Slip Regulator) and Traction Control System.

Powering the Vespa 946 will be two engine options. First is the 125cc engine that churns out 11.95 PS of power and 10.3 Nm of torque, while the second is the 150cc engine producing 13.2 PS of power and 12.6 Nm of torque. The Vespa 946 boasts of excellent build quality and will be brought through the CBU route when launched in India. With the kind of design and equipment on board, the Vespa 946 isn’t going to be cheap and will be priced at around Rs. 2 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched.

The 946 will be brought on Indian shores by the end of this year. While it may not seem a smart buy considering the powertrain available, it surely is a stylish way of arriving.

BMW showcased the 2014 M6 Gran coupe

BMW India has showcased an ensemble of power, performance and luxury with the 2014 M6 Gran Coupe at the Auto Expo. The M6 Gran Coupe is based on the regular 6-Series Gran Coupe, which itself is based on the two-door 6-Series (base for the M6). Both the M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe use the same powertrain, however cater to two different segments altogether. Essentially, the M6 Gran Coupe is for those who are looking for power and practicality and the 7-Series is just too boring for their tastes.
