Hair Shampoo on Cars, good or bad ??

I have seen people using hair shampoo on their car but my experience is not so good with shampoo in Jaipur hard water. Leaves white sports all over. Please suggest some substitute for hair shampoo which can keep my new swift desire as shiny as ever.

Hi ! Arpit, The water has to be with out salt. now in order to get the low salt or insolubles-less water is either from the reverse osmosis water purifiers or rain water, distilled water is not cost effective. Use shampoo sachets form reputed companies. I use head and shoulders, dove....I tried using MGA recommended one but not much of a difference.

Hi, this is a normal practise all over car washing stations to use hair shampoo for cars.

Hair shampoo vs detergent bar:

In my opinion the car washing stations use two products hair shampoo and detergent soaps. While the detergent is ok with muddy tyres, it wont be friendly with your paint and make it rough. Now hair shampoo is still better then detergents.

Hair shampoo vs car wash :

Hair shampoo is specifically designed to lather away dirt from your hairs and hair are basically a protein structure while your car paint is not a protein, therefore the cleansing efficiency will vary.

Since hair shampoo is mild it wont harm your paint but will not clean mudd on tyres and bird residue on paint well and may leave water spots . In contrast if you use car wash it will better lift dust and residue on paint and will also give some lustre without much water spots. I use amway car wash and polish its easily available with amway agents and peace of mind that you are not buying fakes of reputed brands.

Additionaly use a microfibre absorbing cloth to prevent water droplets spotting, costs around rs 70 / 80.

End of the day no one will use car shampoo over his hair

But vice versa is still ok!

That doesn't matter you use Hair Shampoo or Car Shampoo IMO. But you can use car washing shampoos like Formula 1 car shampoo.

Recently, i've tried Amway Car wash liquid concentrate for my car & its results are magical. Requires much less effort while applying & gives much better shine after washing than other conventinal shampoos or car shampoos.

1 bottle pack serves for more than 100 car washes.

You can use any shampoo but from a reputed maker e.g dove, clinic plus, head and shoulders etc but the water you use is important, hard water will eventually cause permanent deposits on the pipe's internal surface and pump's moving parts. Any scale chipped away, would clog the spray nozzle. Water free of salts or insolubles would come from household RO plants. The distill water would be the best but not economical.

I have tried almost every kind of shampoo be it car or hair shampoo. IMO car shampoo are alright but they don't produce much lather (My car is parking under shade so prone to crow S***) and I found using cheap hair shampoo is better.

I sometimes use normal (white non flavoured) toothpaste and massage on windscreen it removes dirt and tar spots most of the times.

One - using a mild shampoo to clean the dirt. Most of the shampoos we use for

head-bath/body-wash are mild. So, there is no problem at all. And, unlike

our usage of directly using it on our body, it should first be fully dissolved

in water and the diluted soapy water should be used for cleaning the car.

Two - After cleaning the dirt, most of the soapy water should be cleaned away by

plain running water. This is like what we do in a washing machine. Unless

the soapy water is removed completely, there is every likelyhood of white

patches on the cleaned car surface when once the surface is dried. It is

suggested that one should clean the surface at least two to three times with

normal water (which should not be salt water, or hard water ...).

In my experience, I find that the main culprit is not the shampoo, but the quality of water.

I agree that hard water is the main problem sometimes there are many white marks left even after thorough wash.

Thanks rssh, BTW Do I need to use a special toothpaste or just anyone? Means The white one or the others?

I don't really like mint flavoured paste and a normal white colour one works mine, you don't want to attract ants with a peppermint flavour on the windscreen .

Guess i am really concern about cleaning my car by myself, so i am planning to buy some car shampoo, give me a advice. Actually i was used to clean my car with regular hair shampoo but I am sure there will be a few more specifically available in the market.

I was also using hair shampoos for car cleaning but now i decided to use specific car shampoo for cleaning because i analyse that comparatively car shampoo re more effective than hair shampoo.

Please refrain from using hair shampoo or anyother cleaning material that is not advisable. Stick to reputed car shampoo brands like Sonax, Formula1, Abro. I use Sonax mild car shampoo with Caranuba, works like a charm. It claims to leave a layer of wax with each wash. All I know is that it does its job surprisingly well. Along with that, I use a micro fibre towel to absorb all the water.
