Skoda Kamiq SUV revealed ahead of Geneva debut

Recommended Posts

Skoda has released images and details of its smallest SUV, the Kamiq, ahead of its public debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show. The new Kamiq, which sits below the Karoq and Kodiaq in Skoda’s international line-up, also hints at the first model under parent company Volkswagen’s India 2.0 plan for our market.

The Kamiq gets two 1.0-litre turbo-petrol options – 95hp and 115hp – and a 1.5 TSI turbo-petrol with 150hp. The diesel offering is a 1.6 TDI with 115hp. Skoda will also offer a CNG powertrain in some international markets. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Kamiq will only be offered in front-wheel-drive format, but will also be available with an optional Sport Chassis Control, which lowers the SUV by 10mm, and includes adjustable shock absorbers.

India will get a modified version of the MQB A0 platform that is meant to be used in emerging markets. For India, this architecture will be called MQB A0 IN. Skoda will showcase a close-to-production concept of the India-spec Kamiq at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi next year.

I have just come across some images of the new Skoda Kamiq GT variant which is a China-specific model. Unlike the Kamiq slated to come to our market, which will be based on the MQB AO platform, the Chinese model is based on the older PQ-series platform. The Kamiq GT variant appears to sport a number of chrome accents all around the SUV, though it otherwise looks very similar to the standard car. What do you guys think about the Skoda Kamiq GT?

Nice close-up look at the Kamiq GT now that it has been revealed in China! Compared to the standard Kamiq, the GT features a more sloping roofline, sleeker headlamps, a revised grille, new bumpers at the front and rear, and more chrome garnish. In terms of dimensions, the GT is slightly longer (by 19mm) than the standard Kamiq, with the width and wheelbase remaining unchanged.

Inside, centre console continues to be dominated by an 8.0-inch touchscreen flanked by air-con vents, with a trim piece running the length of the dashboard below and featuring a GT badge. The GT badging is also present on the headrests, while the seats now feature a stripe running down the centre.
