Nissan X-Terra SUV revealed

Recommended Posts

The new Nissan X-Terra SUV has been revealed as the brand's contender in the popular body-on-frame SUV category. This new SUV will be sold in many international markets like the ASEAN and Australian region, the Chinese market, and the Middle East to name a few.

For those who don’t know, Nissan had an SUV by the same name (Xterra) in its North American and Middle-Eastern line-up from 1999 to 2015. While the X-Terra name makes a comeback (now with a hyphen), this new SUV has nothing common than its previous iteration. However, this model isn’t entirely new either. The new Nissan X-Terra is actually a heavily reworked version of the Terra SUV that went on sale back in 2018.

The updated SUV gets fresh styling at its front and at the back that mimics the one seen on the recently unveiled Nissan Navara pickup as well as the flagship Patrol SUV. The front consists of LED headlamp and foglamps, an imposing grille with chrome bits and a larger and more upright nose.  At the back, stylish taillamp units replace the simpler ones and are equipped with LED inserts. The rear bumper is new as well and now gets a faux brushed aluminum skid plate. The SUV also gets new alloy wheel designs, depending on variant.

On the inside, the Nissan X-Terra gets a major overhaul that includes an all-new dashboard with a much larger 9.0-inch infotainment unit that also gets Nissan's connected car tech. The cabin gets three row seating and a long list of features that also include rear-seat entertainment screens depending on variant.

Under the hood, the new Nissan X-Terra will be sold with a 2.5-liter four cylinder petrol engine good for 165hp, additionally there will be a 187hp 2.3-liter four cylinder diesel engine as well. Nissan has equipped the X-Terra with shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive tech for higher variants.

Nissan X-Terra:  Will it come to India?
The SUV can be a strong rival in India and can be positioned in the lower-end of the segment that has SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour to name a few. As far as large SUVs go, Nissan has considered bringing its flagship Patrol SUV in the Indian market a few years ago but those plans have never materialized and we don't expect Nissan to bring the X-Terra SUV to India anytime soon. The Japanese brand however, is currently focusing on one of its most important market launches for India, the upcoming Magnite SUV that will hit Nissan showrooms in India on December 2, 2020.
