Recommended Posts

hey guys i m using tata indica for last 3 years. want to change it. i've shortlisted swift vxi/vdi, getz1.1/1.3. i've heard 1.1 is a underpower car so want a help to sort out my choice. was disappoint with refinment of tata indica dls i have. the new diesel swift is verysmooth and fun to drive. my main concerns is comfort, space and good overall package. swift i;ve heard is the best running car today petrol and diesel, while getz for its comfort, space and also next company successful after maruti is hyundai. so pl help.

To expect any decent advice you must give your price range, approximate monthly distance travelled, and requirements in terms of passenger numbers, local or long distance etc. Also, whether you have a distinct preference for Diesel or Petrol

14,000 to 18,000 km per annum - you are in the band between diesels and petrols. Petrols score on overall smoothness, linear power delivery, and lower price, while diesels are more economical, costlier and somewhat noisier. Today the maintenance costs are about the same for either.

With 5 adults the best bet may be one of the Swift or Getz variants . With four adults you can also look at the i10. The Swift is a segment higher than the i10 and is superior to the Getz in most aspects.

Tata vehicles offer excellent value for money but are somewhat unrefined, and there are quality issues. I have heard stories of engines packing up in 40,000km, as well as some lasting for 150,000km.By and large I will rate 100,000km (or better) as the par value.

I would try and stick to the three volume manufacturers - Maruti, Hyundai and Tata since spares tend to be cheaper and easier to get, Try the cars out, and also find out the reputation of the dealership garage. In some cities you have HASSes and TASSes in addition to MASSes.

I have a Santro 1.1 I would reckon the 1.3 to be the better one with the 1.1 seriously underpowered. What may surprise you is that it may be a bigger handicap in town than on the highway. The reason is that you need acceleration more in town than on the highway. Top speed is academic.

as ur priority is comfort & space, go for the getz. for five adults, i think swift will a bit too cramped. the getz 1.3 will suit u fine. also since ur drive about 50 kms everyday, try getting a diesel. but for the getz diesel, u may have to stretch ur budget. economically speaking, a swift diesel will be good for you.

also the fiat palio diesel will be good as it is available at a mouth watering price and with the excellent multiget diesel engine. but service and resale value will be the worst.

overall but i would still recommend you go for the getz 1.3
