driftpunk
Just downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Will install it tomorrow. Has anyone here had any experience with it ?
rahul1810
I have been using it extensively and so has DD. You should not face much of a problem. Since you are a beginner you should refer to the following guide. http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Maverick
Durango Dude
@Driftpunk: Welcome to the Ubuntu club, have been using Ubuntu right from 9, 10.04 and now 'graduated' to 10.10. The good thing is that the scanner works with this edition and one other thing you are safe from viruses and it's real fast. I have installed it alongside XP. If you install it do so but in different drives, viz install XP in C and Ubuntu in say D or E so it doesn't slow down the Window's or vice versa. Durango Dude
@dinesh: Ubuntu is the easiest of all Linux OS and if you have used windows you'll be at home with Ubuntu, too. It's fast and doesn't need an antivirus and as you have rightly said many app's don't work with this. You can't have it as the stand alone OS, it will have to have Windows along side to be used as and when you need it. My printer and scanner works with Ubuntu 10.10. If you have the CD you can install it in a jiffy along side Windows 7, find out what edition it is and if not download the latest edition (10.10) from the link provided: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download  . Got myself a Tata Photon + yesterday, yet to reach the 'warp speeds' promised; in fact in it's 'probationary period' it's slower than my Airtel Broadband, it barely touches dialup speeds when I called the guy who installed it he said wait for a day for 'full' activation. Looks like I have to '***** foot' the Photon + in it's 'run in' period. Will keep you all posted, if any one is using Photon + kindly let me know your experiences with it. rahul1810
@DD Have had bad experience with Photon+. Its very much location dependant. Have been using BSNL 3G for a month now. Much better with respect to coverage and speeds. Also better rates. Rs 4200 for 6 months, with unlimited data transfer. @dinesh As you are new, I would suggest you go for Linux Mint. It is based on Ubuntu, but much easier to use for someone who has just switched over from Windows and comes with more preinstalled apps. Regarding applications, it will take max 2-3 days to understand and there are Ubuntu based apps or atleast alternatives for major apps. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1581 You can also install it using USB key after you have downloaded it using Unetbootin. http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ Contact me for any help. rahul18102011-01-03 12:11:
asethi919
I saw a camouflaged Jazz on he expressway today. It was white in colour and Honda smartly used white tape to cover the front and rear bumper, the grill and part of the headlamps. I could not get a picture because we on the expressway. Could possibly be the facelift version of the car.

sgiitk
I have been using a Photon+ for about a year. Speeds are fine locally, and in Delhi. Did not get much over 100kbps in MP at Gwalior/Indore (only 1x was available). Had a bad experience on Delhi-Jaipur highway (near Bhiwadi). The signal was reasonable but the connection very unreliable and that too at onoly 10kbps. Could work only once on five attempts. One thing interesting, when I am out of town the first time it takes two attempts to connect.
sb-alto
Past couple of days I was busy helping my dad in home marketing. Split ACs, LCD tv, lights, fans, paints, new mobile phones are selected. Now just need another day to go and buy these.

Tested out a FM Transmitter from the US, quality is much better than the Chinese stuff available here and got a 4GB Transcend and loaded it with songs and had a spirited drive from Adyar to Chromepet (35 kms round trip), roads were good & deserted, was able to touch 100 kmph within city limits. It was a birthday party of a close friends grandson. An enjoyable evening altogether. I have my antenna's up looking for some form of protest from the car since it's more than 5 years old and almost 1 year since I got it serviced, it's humming on fine. dineshzma116
Tried my uncle"s fiat punto. Everything nice., But the steering wheel is made up of a non-sense fibre which makes us to feel hurt after some distance. I would sugesst all the punto drivers to change this "hard fibre" into a rubber made wheels or atleast velvet covered wheels for the grip and friendly use... Apart from this., planning for some vacational tour.
asethi919
Watching 'HIghway on My Plate'. They are currently featuring this place called 'Britannia and Co.' somewhere in Mumbai. Parsi cuisine looks rather tempting. Especially the Berri Pulao. Any of our Mumbai members been there?

Durango Dude
Just finished watching Stephen Hawking's program on Time travel on Discovery Channel. It was great, but what was greater was Stanley Kubrick had made a film way back in 1968; 2001: A Space Odyssey one of the greatest sci-fi films of all "time". When I watched it with my dad then, I could hardly make head or tail of what the film was all about.
Mr. Spock
2001 a space odyssey film had one major flaw which was overlooked by director Stanley otherwise the film is factually correct about space( Not talking about monolith and aliens) The film had one of the best Special effects before the era of Industrial Lights and machine and CGI. A bit off topic- I don't like Stephan hawking after he did not publicly acknowledge that his theory regarding loss of matter was incorrect instead condemning other scientist and treid to prove that his new theory was correct P.S - This information about Stephan Hawking may come as a bolt from blue and some members may disagree with my statement but is based on BBC Horizon Documentary.
