Indians being cheated by international car makers

Recommended Posts

there are many things to see for a developiong country like india. maing safety features mandatory is not possible as it will shoot up the price, which will make the vehicle unaffordable, hence lower the growth of both the company and country.

whereas developed nations like USA can afford to apply these rules, as growth is dependent on auto industry alone.

that's when the companies knock the doors of relatively poor countries like india.after all its buisness and he game is played for profit rather than technology being offered(new or old).

er aren't cars in the US, China and other developed countries even cheaper than a poor developing country like ours? and they're cheaper AFTER airbags, ABS, traction control, etc., etc...diablo379892008-09-11 19:47:45

Infact thats not a bad idea as far as India is concerned, as the maintenance gets affordable. See Opel Astra a beautiful awesome car. Now its off the market. If someone wants to keep it ... his/her wallet is dented big time and there are no spares available in small towns at all.

Also why Indian safety, emission norms are a bit outdated in India this gives foreign manufacturers a chance to sell there outdated models in India. I head Ford was coming up with idea of cheap used cars from other countries some 2 yrs back, fotunately it didnt happen.

Do you think growth of Indian Economy is solely dependent on automobile sector..smiley5.gif...I thought India has seen growth in all the sectors be it IT, Infrastructure, Financial Sectors......smiley32.gif

India is not moving ahead because companies are selling more cars......companies are selling more cars because indian economy is growing.....

Does this give an excuse to auto makers to sell second hand technology to indian consumers.......

maybe they give us less powerful engines because they feel people here are not mature enough to handle them' date=' and by and large I think that is a fair assessment[/quote']

given the state of our road traffic and driving, you may have a point. but then at least price the blinking things lower! how come a toyota corolla with a 150bhp+ 2.4 litre engine in the US costs about INR 8 lacs fully loaded - and the smaller 1.8 engine with fewer features costs about INR 12 lacs plus here? US labour isn't, as we know, exactly cheap - so how come Toyota can price its car so much lower in that market with a much bigger engine?

and if they're so worried about our ability to handle powerful engines, how about more safety features then?diablo379892008-09-12 15:45:50

we aren't getting cheated in any way we are more interested in the fuel efficiency of the cars than in the performance even when we buy an high end car like audi or bmw the engines are all same as in international markets but the difference in fuel quality is wat makes the manufacturers to detune the engines for more gas mileage and to run more trouble freely !!!!!!!! and besides the govt should move towards more stricter emission norms and the oil companies should start selling more refined fuels for us to be able to get more performance oriented cars !!!!!!!

camry is a direct import(so lots of taxes) and corrola is made in india so the huge price diff between the two !!!!!

the engines are not the entire range offered in the intnl market. they are typically lower powered but cost us a lot more. look at any of the links provided in an earlier post.

the camry does get taxed heavily. what about the corolla?
