thisisviraj
hey evryone...i have a 2004 getz. its got 34k on the clock and it has served me superbly over the years..however, over the last few months its been returning very poor mileage..i got the engine decarbonized recently and changed my usual fuel station..the mileage has improved but its still way below par..the hyundai guy gave me a seemingly ridiculous explanation abt how the gases in the fuel combustion area react with the atmospheric gases WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED IN THE OPEN(which is the case with me)..i cudnt believe it for a second...ne of u guys heard abt this? i noe for a fact that the getz has a vry light clutch, fantastic for city driving..but this also means that it wears out faster..cud that be the reason? should i get the engine tuned? please send me ur suggestions... Fiaton
Hi Viraj, The reasons for poor FE could be many .Sometimes dificult to pinpoint.Better to eliminate by Trial and Error.begin with : 1.Go back to old fuel pump. 2.check your Clutch plates, they may be worn out. 3.After decarb, there might be some soot left over in the fuel system or spark plugs.Have the fuel - MPFI system checked. 4.Get Engine tuned up for Appropriate RPM levels. 5.Importantly ,you may have changed your driving style or the car may be idling too long at signals.Keep this in mind before coming to conclusions. Finally wait for other forum members to put in their views. The problem might get solved soon. Some Patience counts!!! Happy Driving.

Old Oil will increase friction between Engine parts thereby increasing Fuel Consumption. 2>Replace Air Filter Element. Impure Air may increase Fuel Consumption. 3>Replace Coolant. Old Coolant will not cool Engine properly and increase Fuel Consumption. 4>Check Tyre Pressures. Low tyre pressures increase rolling resistance of tyres thereby increasing Fuel Consumption. Do you feel decrease in Pickup? Or do you face any hardshifting (Gearbox) problem? If so, check the clutch plates.

While all these things do help improve FE, a drastic drop after the service could mean a bigger problem. Have are you fuel effeciency figures now ? (and what were they earlier) ? sudeepd
ALSO DONT IDLE THE ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 30-40 SECONDS=> 1. AT THE SIGNAL OR ANY TRAFFIC JAM. and 2. WHENEVER THE ENGINE IS COLD(may be morning, afternoon, evening or night). Dont drive the car to its full potential during first 5-10 kms. as the Engine Oil is Cold, the Engine will consume more fuel. Compulsory Note: Idle for 30 seconds in Neutral (FOOT OFF THE CLUTCH) after starting the Engine if the Engine is COLD. Dont drive at speeds above 50-60kmph (May be Highway or City). CARRY OUT MY SUGGESTIONS AND I BET THE FUEL EFFICIENCY WILL RISE BY 15-20 PERCENT. GUARANTEE
