speed
Very good query! From what I know, i20 could be the only diesel hatch coming this season. Petrol i20 is certain, but we still need confirmation on diesel plans. Punto in all probability will be available next year only.
Crazy cat
May be i20. There is a 1.4litre crdi is on the cards for the i20. Hope Hyundai launches with it.

Crazy cat
Hyundai don't score high on reliability. Accent crdi's engine lost its glory after 100000kms and drop in mileage too. Even the Hyundai dealer agreed on this and they claimed that it is because of the driving manners of indians as they strain the engine too much. My uncle's Getz which has done 35000km had a gearbox swap at around 30000 and the engine pickup has comedown a lot. Elantra too had engine complaint. designersf
Only option is the 1.5CRdi for i20...not sure about the 1.4CRdi
speed
Yes, I agree with Crazy Cat, though Hyundai was the 1st. in our Country to launch CRDI engines, but they are certainly not the best in CRDI tech. Their Accent Crdi had tremendous problems & that unit was garbage. Then came Elantra, again its engine had complaints & FE was low. Im not including Teraccan, Tuscon & Embera over here as focus is more on economy segment. Although Tuscon shared engine with Elantra, Terracan was a flop & Embera, well everyone knows, its a flop too. Finally came the Verna with Crdi, now though I havent heard lot of complaints about the engine per say, but nevertheless, engine does not set any benchmarks in either FE or Performance. So, in the end now its i20's turn & the hype is touching new heights with every passing day, but I shall keep my reservations about the new diesel engine touted to fit in it. Its best to wait & watch for a while, before making a plunge.

trojan_virus
Well Accent crdi n Viva had many engine failures after they clocked around 75k kilometers .I really dont like Hyundai for there Diesel , petrol versions are still fine and even Verna had problems as it requires a lot of maintenance regularly. hsb_sx4
@murli: I would not recommend you to wait for any upcoming diesel cars. The only one that has a possibility to be launched around diwali with a diesel engine is I20. But we dont have any confirmation about the exact launch date. It may be after Diwali. Moreover, there is a very slight possibility of the diesel being launched simultaneously. So you may end up just waiting. The present worthy diesel hatchbacks that you may consider are- Vista, Swift, and Getz. I would recommend Vista as its quite good on features, space and price. Fabia is a bit too expensive but if you want a premium hatch, take a look at it.
thisisviraj
The i20 will probably not come with the diesel as hyundai wud not have had enough time to localise the engine to the desired extent..it wont be cost-effective for hyundai...ud have to pick one from the present lot..see if can stretch your budget for the fabia. Crazy cat
Congrats Murli and plz comment on the buying experience of the car. I've heard from many that they force you for Indica and Vista over Palio. Is this true from your experience.?
jbond830
Dude, the most recently release Indica vista is the best diesel hatchback in the market. The Getz diesel is not as fuel efficient as the vista. Also the Indica has the fiat diesel engine which has won international awards and has been bought by many car manufacturers around the world and customised to their needs. So check out Indica vista, its handling is not the same and the performance is definitely not the same. But ofcourse the looks, if you can bare with it....
