Ford Endeavour The Bumpy Car

Recommended Posts

I bought a New Ford Endeavour and very much dissatisfied by its performance. The Differential of vehicle has a humming sound when the accelerator pedal is released in excess of 100kmph.

The vehicle is very bumpy even on smooth roads. Ford says Good Road, Bad Road Any road No Road I say the vehicle is not good for any road.

The car spits on it - when any of front wheel goes in water filled pothole the water comes on windscreen affecting drivers visibility.

These are my observations and Ford is not agreeing to it. I would like to know If any body else has experienced.

You are right about the ride, its pretty bad & rear suspension set up with leaf springs is the main culprit. The SUV just doesn't feel like a 15L+ category car from ride point of view.

Well can't say much about the humming noise & water splashing because used friends Endy.  for short period of time only.

Thanks Sudeep, for taking concern. When I complained to Ford India their RSM at Delhi Mr. Navneet very proudly quoted that if our vehicle is not upto mark why Auto Magzines are quoting it positively. Therefore I want Auto car to make a road test again and emphasisie on the points I have noticed.

what's aci

ACI means Autocar India.

That is you can take help of Autocar India if you are Subscriber of Autocar India.

And you should have researched about Endy before buying it.

Most of we all know that as any car having Leaf Springs will jump while going over bumpy roads. And as Endy as Leaf Springs at rear, it is going to jump over bupmy roads.

 So whats your decision?

While auto magazines have praised it for the engine and its handling, we have also mentioned that the ride quality is harsh and nothing to write home about. You could try decreasing tyre pressures at the cost of slightly lower fuel economy.

but really majority of the people buy a car without actually test driving it

I agree with you.

cant the leaf springs in endy be replaced with the modern day shockers ???????

If this would have been so easy, Ford itself would have replaced the Leaf Springs With Modern Shock Absorbers.

OT-

Leaf Springs allow to carry more load.

Ride is one major problem. The car has other problems too like very frequent wear of Brakes- They suggest brake pad change at every 20000 kms and brake disc change at every 30000kms. Engine and pickup of vehicle is good and Brakes are not responsive to take on the momentum generated by kind of  heavy beast like endy.

Brake pads costs around 3500 per set. The very first paid servive at 30000 costed around 6500 to me.

Other problems I face are -

Sitting is very low and rear seat can house only 2. The 3rd row is meant for children upto 10 years only or pets of course.

Suspension besides being rough is too noisy on bumps.

On rough road you have to drive very slow other wise its too bumpy and difficult to manover.

The most horrible part of driving is in rains. As the front trye goes in any water filled pothole the car spits on itself, the water comes on windscreen making driver absolutely blind and you have to apply sudden brakes.

The differncial has a nosie like it use to be there in Premier Padmini (Fiat), in new age car I have seen it in Endeavour only.

Basically, no other Endy owner has come out with their grouse's and gripe's like you Vikas. Probably, they are smiling and swallowing their grievances. From the look's of it, it doesn't sound like a 7 lakh car let alone a 20 lakh car. We expect far more from our Swift's and i20's; we'd definitely not put up with such problem's. We'd go to town with it, wouldn't we? Durango Dude2009-03-06 17:46:32

brake discs to be changed at 30000..smiley21.gifthats going to be a costly maintanance buddy, werent there other options available for you while buying this car, as you must have thought before going for this as it was said and tested with it has a gem of engine but ride is not that good.

With all due respect, you have none but yourselves to blame! Who stopped you from having a test drive before buying it? It's a known character of the vehicle and not a defect per se. Hence it would be better if you can sell it off and buy something with a more pliant ride.

Endeavour is based on a pick up truck and hence the leaf spring suspension. It's better if Ford replaces this with a better vehicle with proper coil springs, sooner the better since Fortuner is on its way!

15L imported car is actually just 8 lakhs. So the car is just worth 8 lackhs money.

For that case. You will find the Tata safari much better than the endeavor

well the life of break pads is around 30,000 kms...in my corolla i got them changed when it had done 32,000 kms....seriously you should have test driven the vehicle before buying it...innova would have been a beeter buy than the endy !!!!

Big SUVs are bound to have more brake wear than cars, so it isn't really fair to compare. Research is key to everything and especially when parting with a sizeable chunk of money. Although I am quite puzzled as to why the brake discs need changing at just 30,000kms.

Brake pads aren't really costly, there are many cheaper cars whose brake pads costs almost double.

30000 Kms seems alright for such a huge vehicle, but the wear & tear depends upon driving styles too. 40000 kms. is normal for big cars, but drive them hard & even 25000 is expected!

I have test driven Endy 3-4 times as I really wanted to go in for it once. Also read many reviews about it & from both the experiences I easily gathered that its ride quality is poor. So, I never made a purchase as I look for good ride quality in my car. But surely Endy's handling, street presence, go anywhere capability(4x4) are a big turn on too.

@Bond, Endy is not imported, its being manufactured in India!

& Safari comes no where near an Endy!
