sudeepd
Friends, We have Highest Speed Thread. So thought of creating this Thread Highest Fuel Efficiency you got for your Bikes & Cars. I will Start. We own two Tata Indigos Tata Indigo LS (May 2004) which has crossed 1,62,800+kms. Tata Indigo XL Grand DiCOR (May 2007) which has crossed 75,000+kms. Indigo LS returned me Fuel Efficiency of 24+kpl (without AC) under following driving conditions about 1 month ago (i.e. in Feb 2009). A range of 253 kms required approx. 10.5 litres of Diesel (Obviously Tankful to Tankful). This 253 kms range consists of a stretch of 12 kms of 1st gear driving (complete bumpy road with large potholes and belly scraping. So had to drive in 1st Gear only with seldom 2nd Gear). Some 160-180 kms of highway driving at speed of 70kph with some downshifting while overtaking and remaining kms with speeds of 40-70kph with seldom downshifting for potholes. So if I had driven with 70kph in 5th Gear most of the time, I would have managed 30+kpl. Also now I have got the Engine tuned today and some alterations from Chavan Motors Pvt Ltd, TASC, Solapur. As for Alterations, here it goes=> There is some device under the Rear Seat. The mechanic removed and showed it to me. At the base of it, there was a strainer and inside that strainer was a pipe which pulled Diesel from that strainer. The strainer had got bent, so the open end of pipe had touched the strainer bottom disc. So there was not proper supply of Diesel to the Diesel filter. He grinded the Open end of the pipe and fitted back. Then he did the Idle Setting. And voila, the initial throttle response improved a lot. Now the car pulls even from 40kph in 4th Gear with AC On. This means the driver has to give less throttle everytime which in turn will definitely improve Fuel Efficeincy by 10-15% over my 30kpl (as stated above). As for Indigo XL Grand DiCOR. The Fuel Efficiency I got while driving at 70kph was around 20kpl without AC. The fuel Efficiency at 120kph with AC ON was 23+kpl. I have one query about DiCOR. Why DiCOR returns more FE at higher speeds (120kph) than lower speeds (70kph)? As for my Pulsar 180DTS-i LCD Speedometer (Feb 2007) which has covered 11,180kms returns me 52+kpl. I will update on this again afterwards. sudeepd2009-04-02 15:40:

sudeepd
Indigo Ls delivering 24+ ??? thats too good to sound believable man !!! The details I posted in my first post. This is not very accurate since after that Test I have carried out tuning of the engine and grinding of a pipe (Details mentioned in 1st post). Before that Tuning and Grinding process, the car would refuse to drive at 45-50kph in 4th Gear that too without AC (AC OFF). After that Tuning and Grinding process, the car smoothly drives at 40kph in 4th Gear and that too With AC (AC ON). This is very big difference. This in turn means I will have to give less Throttle now for particular speed than before which in turn will increase my FE More. Also last time, I drove at 70kph without AC. Now with the Throttle response improved, I can drive at 50-55kph with AC without lugging the Engine. If I get chance, I will carry out Tests Again and will post here the update for all vehicles as they carried out.. Till then I Wish you get Best FE. He also gets more than 22kpl on highways since he drives at speeds less than 50-60kph.

akj53in
Thanks Sudeep. I used to get 24 kmpl by driving at a steady speed of 70-80 kmph and I used to be the only passenger. Less weight and steady speed also contribute to better FE.

Kinshuk
Get around 12-13 kmpl from my Honda City Idsi (refuel when the warning light glows, think can get a bit more) which I drive; around 12kmpl from my Fiat 1100 Delite Havent calculated FE on other cars as its really useless trying to get a figure on vehicles driven by multiple drivers! sudeepd
Suppose there are two cars C1 and C2. Car C1 is driven at 1500 RPM in 2nd Gear and Car C2 is driven at 1500 RPM in 3rd Gear. Which of the above cars will fetch more FE since both are running at identical 1500 RPM (but in different Gears)? Suppose there are two bikes B1 and B2. Bike B1 is ridden at 3000 RPM in 2nd Gear and Bike B2 is ridden at 3000 RPM in 3rd Gear. Which of the above Bikes will fetch more FE since both are running at identical 3000 RPM (but in different Gears)? MODS: I had posted this in Gearshift Related Questions thread but no answered there. So re- posted here. sudeepd2009-04-10 13:05:

sudeepd
@sudeepd: Nice question! Ive heard that consumption is Max in 3rd gear I thought Consumption would be less in 3rd Gear as compared to 2nd (Means FE would be more in 3rd as compared to 2nd) at identical rpm. but we need someone with tech. knowledge to answer this. Try contacting Sgiitk' date=' he's always got proper answers for queries like this.[/quote']Yes I agree on this. Lets wait for Sanjay Sir to post his opnion on this. sudeepd
Is it good option to fill the Fuel right up to the filler cap since while driving/riding, the fuel could come out of the filler cap due to the shocks the vehicle receives on our Pot-hole Roads? Most of us have the habit of filling the fuel by removing the air trapped inside the fuel tank by moving the vehicle sideways to get the "accurate" (Not Accurate Actually) FE What about the fuel which get spilled out after filling the fuel right up to the cap while driving/riding?
