GUESS THE CAR THREAD......

Recommended Posts

Abhi nice try . You are very near the answer. Russia had Govt owned car companies. Volga and Gaz built the same model with minor modifications. On this bodyshell there is the GAZ 24-10 as you say. But this car is the Volga model 24. There was an upgraded version GAZ 24-12 also.

Clicking on the pic takes me to a page about the nissan gt-r. Is that some sort of clue or what? As things stand' date=' i don't know this car..

[/quote']

No not the Nissan at all. This car is of the 1940's and is so graceful. Earlier Nissan cars  (Datsun) were awfully designed- and looked very odd. Nissan Motors' first car was based on the Austin 7.

Sorry.. it's a 1940 Lasalle..

BTW I agree we should do more on newer classics - may be something around 1950s or 60's and above, since this kind of vintage cars are only familiar with ppl who are born in post-war, and I doubt a lot of ppl in their 70/80 yrs-old surf this forum.

Just a suggestion.

Yes gtmaniac Its the 1940 Lasalle from Cadillac of course. Your suggestion is well taken. We must also see these very well designed old cars, once in a while on our threads. The designers were supreme during those days and that's why you see the exquisite looks of each car. Today the designer is throttled by so many constraints like wind tunnels for churning out an aerodynamic design (cd factor), safety norms including crash test stability, lightweight material use, fuel consumption facts and a host of other gremlins. He is pressurised to produce design conforming to all such norms in vogue. Thus most of today's cars lack individuality and great looks. Other than  a handful of them with individuality

( mostly in the high price brackets), most appear to be the clones of some higher end models.

Hence, I once in a while bring in such very old cars here to just make us admire their poise, beauty and grace.
